From: Uvas Umarov See what I mean? People saying polar bears are going extinct, when their numbers are growing...GROWING!!!! *bangs head on keyboard* I'm sorry if you don't understand the scientific reports but it seems that many people are too blinded by personal and political opinions to understand such things.

From: Maelstrom Janus Im sure Uvas will be able to provide you with many number of reports into shark induced fatalities in those areas where larger more agressive sharks are native.... I'm sure Uvas can also provide me with many statistics regarding the tonnage of sharks caught in various fisheries world wide. Shark is damn tasty too.

From: Chris Norse The Earth may be warming, but it is not caused by human activity. Just for kicks Google "global warming on Mars". You can't tell me humans are causing the polar ice caps on Mars to melt. and I thought it was the vast out pouring of hot air from you causing it Chris... oh and perhaps you can tell us on what you base your assessment a degree in physics ? meteorlogy maybe ? Id have thought that what happened in New Orleans would have been sufficient to worry any american over climate change but not you eh chris ?

From: Maelstrom Janus make yourself a rifle or revolver as a tiger pounces on you then chris....
and just how good would you be in the water up against a shark chris...youre in a wheel chair arent you ? Is that going to give you some advantage over this planets bigger predators I hadnt thought about. Having higher brain function I would plan ahead. Thus I would already have a large caliber firearm.

From: Chris Norse So would a nice explosive harpoon. Two words for you; bang sticks. On a serious note now though; personally, seeing large animals in the wild gives me pleasure, and that is reason enough to tolerate them. Still, like any resource they need to be managed to both control and preserve them - not for their benefit, but for mine.

From: Maelstrom Janus and I thought it was the vast out pouring of hot air from you causing it Chris... Can you make a post without resorting to crude insults? It is a sign of your ill breeding and lack of manners.

Id have thought that what happened in New Orleans would have been sufficient to worry any american over climate change but not you eh chris ? New Orleans? Was the massive innundation approximately 12,000 years ago, that resulted in shell beds being deposited at the top of the Andes, also caused by human induced global warming too then?

Im all in favour of bunging you into a tank with a nile crocodile and watching you beat him with your opposable thumb...maybe you could however win him over with your personality...oops youre a goner sorry...

As Chris has pointed out, humans' greater cognitive capacity allows them to assess risk and plan ahead. Chris would, I'm sure, use the large calibre firearm already mentionned. If you are suggesting he should not be allowed to, then the crocodile should also not be allowed to use it's mouth - just to make the competition fair.

Id have thought that what happened in New Orleans would have been sufficient to worry any american over climate change but not you eh chris ? Government mis management and a once in a century storm? No climate change does not worry me in the least. If it happens, it happens not a damn thing any human can do about it. The Earth has had periods of warming and cooling as long as it has been here.

I'm not sure how, but I just know it.

From: Maelstrom Janus well as long as youre on a nice high hill when the ice caps melt you'll be okay....until the food runs out... Given that 7/8s of the icecaps are under water, and that water has a peculiar anomaly in it's physical chemistry that causes it to expand when freezing, rather than contract like most matter, the melting of the icecaps would cause sea levels to actually drop slightly.

But the third job, some call it, uh, "the show" or "the big dance," it's the profession that every linden aspires to.

'Can you make a post without resorting to crude insults? It is a sign of your ill breeding and lack of manners' There is a subtle difference between Chris insulting you, and you choosing to be insulted by a statement of fact.

From: Conan Godwin I think we're getting side tracked here. The regular polar bears are one thing; it's those armoured bears I'm worried about. QFT!! Though I'm also extremely concerned about what would happen if the bears and Eskimos ever joined forces.

Another decent thread brought to it's knees by residents who would rather show off their ignorance than contribute. Where is Strife?

SL already has creatures that randomly wander the grid, sometimes ending up inside our homes. I believe they're called n00bs.
And the only bear you really need to watch out for is the Colbear.
