When I'm told to stop doing something, I generally stop. Until then, I bloody well go on. Especially when the crowd is enjoying things. Really, the OP started by describing our current SL as more boring and commercial when compared to what it was about a year ago. My point is, that's not true. There are people building things other than malls. Some of us still do dozens of fun things a day at no expense to ourselves. Between the whining about the hum-glum and the hum-glummers griping about horseplay and frolic, I can't see why anyone can blame LL for any of this at all. (=_=)

I, for one, will continue to have fun in SL because I continue to find SL fun. Now... If you'll excuse me, I have a growing pile of cubes to attend to. =^-^=

Because, that's the problem. It's great that you stop if you're asked. But again, that only works because there's only one of you. If there were thousands doing the same, they'd all constantly be doing things that you'd maybe not like, and you'd have to tell them ALL to stop, which would take hours. See the problem? And as for the crowd enjoying things, well, what makes you so special that you should have the crowd attention? Maybe someone else would like it?

and if everyone took that philosophy, No one would do anything... because someone might not like it or we would risk making ourselves special. We might grab crowd attention we didn't deserve. So by all means, lets all stand around and do nothing ever to stand out or have fun.

Yes, let's. Then, maybe, we can start to work out ways to have fun that don't require us to stand out.

Because, you know.. if you have to stand out to have fun, then the majority of people won't be having any fun. Because the majority don't stand out. Because, um, that's what "standing out" means.

I think it is natural that different people stand out for different reasons at different times. Instead of living in a bland gray world, I would rather have lights of brillance. I don't want or need to stand out all the time. I will be honest and say I do need my shining moments. Even if it is just with my partner or close friends. I like a world where people take turns standing out and shining. They guide me along in new and interesting ways.

The major difference:

Giving Immy half a cup of coffee, she would say: Gee thanks, a cup half full of coffee (or whatever drink).

Giving the cup to Yumi, she would say: Nah, only half a cup, where everyone else gets a full one.

Gimme a break people. SL is not worsethen it used to be, SL is different. And don't tell me "you were not there in the early days", this happens with everything. My grandmother used to say how much better it was when she was young. IT WAS NOT! It probably was different, but not better. SL is what you make of it. Nothing more nothing less. And I sure like the positive attitude of Immy or Chris way better, then the constant self-pity of Yumi.

Not really the same example (unless you're saying you gave everyone a full one but Immy, too).

And as I said, if I had the social experiences they'd had, and could do what they could do, I'd be positive too. Self-pity appears to be what people want from me.

Right, and that's great. That's what I'd like the most, as well. But it doesn't scale up. If you have a group of 1000 people, and each takes the spotlight for one evening's meeting on SL, then it'll more than 3 years before person #1000's turn comes up - and that's if they meet up every single night.

That's why I called it the "infinite back-off" problem. If one person takes the spotlight, others have to back out. If that's in a managed fashion that's great. But if it isn't, then some number of people (maybe even a majority) will have had to back off every time, which isn't much fun for them.

Plus she tried making a Barista role-playing build and nobody wanted to let her be a mocha latte rock star, so coffee is symbolic of how Blue Mars is going to be better than Second Life because it'll let everyone be a rock star, and besides most people don't want to be rock stars anyway, and Second Life is all about forcing everyone to try and be a rock star and be disappointed because the other people in Second Life are real people.

*nod* But you don't have to choose to do an interaction that defines the social situation to the extent that anyone not involved in it is just left out.

I never chose to leave someone out - they make that choice themselves. That is what I am saying. It is ultimately up to the individual if they wish to be included or not. Sometimes to be included means you have to change the way you view the action, or accept a premise, or many other things, but bottom line, each being has to make the choice if they are part of that interaction, or not. I have no power to force a interaction past them making the choice to interact or not.

The rest of what you posted was very beautiful, but not really relevant, because it was all about you and your path, not anyone else.

But see, that is the point.. each person's path is about them, and them alone. You (generic You here :) ) hold the choice of interacting or not in this world. I can walk up to a person, start talking to them, and they have the option of responding, or ignoring. That choice is out of my hands.

Right, but why should you be the one who writes the premise that others have to accept, or be left out?

Yeah....and it's going to take 500 pages to get there.....while some of us were enjoying reading a few pages about how SL has changed...or how it's not changed.....good or bad....some interesting tidbits.

Gone are the good days/info in the first 3 or 4 pages....scrap this one.

Yumi: all you need to do to win the game is to decide that you're winning the game.

You don't believe this, but it's true.

But who are you to determine what she should do to determine what will win the game?

I miss the casinos like Gold Rush. The ringing of the slot machines when someone hit it big. It had a wonderful Vegas feel to it. I miss sitting in on the Texas hold em games. Whalers sitting at the table smoking their stokies or the other kind of stokey has a great time. Whatever boyfriend at the time, would ask baby you need some money to buy you a new little pretty dress and I would bat my lashes and say yes Daddy.

I miss the worth camping at camping sites where you got to meet interesting people and actually earn something.

That is just a few of the things I miss.

slot machines are sill running

Sorry...not to be rude.....but sweet didn't work last time. Learned my lesson at about page 300 on last one....gave full acceptance and support and even urged it from others....gave benefit of doubt to page 300 or so...maybe longer.....can't bear to check....and it generally only takes 5.... Not playing the game again.

I got banned from Gorean sims a couple of times, apparently they don't have ferrets in Gor. And I hadn't even tried to bite anyone!

I offered to make the Gorean boys a ham sandwich and a cup of coffee, figuring that was fairly slave-like. Got banned from there. :p
