I must say there is a lot of creeps out here then, cause there is a lot of ppl listening to that link.........

Just curious as to 'why'? I just don't get it. I'd be bored listening to conversations I"m not involved in; trying to see some logic or reasons for doing this?

I would just like to note that anyone looking under the table can clearly see there is a microphone under the table, therefore a microphone under the table must be legal.
i would just like to note that anyone looking at the active speakers list can see plenty of other avatar "microphones" listed, therefore, avatar "microphones" are legal.

Using this technique you alluded to, is your "microphone" one of those listed?

Of not, then it is spying. You can rationalize it as much as you would like.

I'd still like to understand the why.

whether my "alt" shows up on the map or not is irrelevant to what is being discussed here as participation in public voice chat shows in the active speakers list at all times unless the chat is taken privately.

the difference here, we are talking about VOICE not TEXT, dont try to mix apples with oranges - thanks

why should i have to divulge that information here ?
you want to know who it is, you go there and observe the active speakers list and find out for yourself.
plenty of other avatars are in public voice chat, how do you know who is and who isnt doing the "spying" as you claim it is.
after all, if an agent goes there to listen, is that "spying" as you classify it ?

In other words, it shows up "under the table".

I'll stick with bananas, they're a better source of potassium.

No, and I don't go around looking under the table for microphones.

I am the epitome of rational, reasonable discourse, arbiter of public opinion, and an all-round swell guy.

Makes me more glad than ever that I don't use voice.
then why do you post here if voice is of non-importance to you?
this topic should be invalid to you then if voice does not concern you.
example:
if you dont "ever" read these forums, then why post that you dont "ever" read here ?

Because privacy is important to me.

Because that would cause a collapse in the subspace vacuum, generating a cronosynclastic infundibulum that would devour half of the grid before it was stopped by getting Torley and Philip to perform the Rite of Alt-Enke backwards and summon the Ur-Thread.

I mean, sheesh, it's obvious, everyone knows that.

....When I get in world tonight I will AR the OP and refer them to this thread. I have read EVERY post here and believe what he is doing is very wrong.
thats fine, do what everyone else is doing.
but, unless you have proof that i am indeed the one doing it, besides discussing it, then dont waste LL's time or yours for that matter.
whether i discuss that i have the ability to do it, does not mean i AM doing it.

Now you're just being argumentative.

I asked...if you are using this technique, do you show up as an active listener? I don't care which sim, or which of your alts you are using. Do people see that you are listening?

If not...then your eavesdropping is clandestine...hence spying. It's a very simple concept.

I mirror what you are saying. I personally find it annoying unless it is in a classroom setting.

accept my apology for mis-reading your post then.
the answer is based on my research:
if you are connected to public voice, yes the agents name will be in the active speakers list within 50 meters of the agent itself.
if you are not in public voice, the agent will not be in the active speakers list.
there is no way to connect without showing in the active speakers list.

Ok. So since people here are not giving you the "Oh. There is nothing wrong with this. Man I should have thought of that" answer, you have to be a smartass about it? There have been 2 people who agreed with you... that's it. Accept and move on. Very very wrong and I will make sure no one I know ever goes to where you are. I am fine if you are in world and listening to my conversation... you being within 50M of me... but not even being logged in... and rebroadcasting my conversation without my permission? Thanks but no thanks. Creep doesn't begin to explain this... douchebag is more like it. Why not tell the people there that they are being rebroadcasted... I bet most of them will either stop using voice or leave...

i have to be a smartass when i got people like you calling me a "douchbag"
i could care less what people think about this, heck i dont even care myself.
if people dont like it, move on somewhere else or dont speak in public.
its people like you who thrive to crap threads like this by "name calling" other residents.
i certainly have not called anyone any "names" in this thread, even though i am the one getting the flame-on.
your post deserves to be moderated and as a result, i will notify an admin.
as far as i am concerned, calling other residents in the forums "names" is not acceptable by the standards LL has set.

Likewise, I will make sure LL looks into your activities and re-evaluates what exactly you and/or your "friend" (since you say you aren't the one doing this...) is doing and if it violates the TOS.
