Dude, I didn't say anyone was wrong, just that *I've* only seen snarky remarks when the posts were all but impossible to read. Maybe I DO have my rose-colored glasses on, but I believe I'm entitled to my own point of view, just like everyone else.

I never saw what was so snarky about simply telling someone whose post was illegible that it was illegible.

I understand people getting upset being told they made people's "eyes bleed" or whatever ..

But if a post is hard to read, it is hard to read ..

When its the Original post .. which means the person is obviously taking the time to start a new thread on something the standard should be even higher.

Now someone going on and on about it, or making additional insults beyond commenting on the hard to read post .. thats excessive. And the piling on that sometimes happens is uncalled for.

But simply telling someone you can't understand their post? Don't see the big deal.

------------

I have seen some people who make hard to read posts get misunderstood and get attacked for what people assumed they said.. Thats definitely worse in my opinion then just realizing the post is hard to read and asking for clarification.

No, but the comments often go beyond that. And if the OP snarks back...well, things can escalate. :-/

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

Ya know Max, that thread you referred to is a good example of my point in this thread.

The OP of the thread called, "One person With a Plan to Help" who lost money with Ginko was offering to put together the information from people who had lost Lindens$ and pursue some course of action to be reimbursed.

He is a registered user since July 2005 and only has 13 posts in the forums. As far as I remember I was the only poster supporting the belief that LL should reimburse that in L$. Then the thread basically ignored his post, apparently compelling him to make a new thread with essentially the same message, where he was immediatly berated and ridiculed.

In the meantime in the long thread I was attempting to point out that there is a massive contradiction at work here and also that the idea that LL could not print with Lindens without talking it from everyone else was a total fallacy.

I also expressed my wonderment that people (kool-aid drinkers) actually believe, LL is blameless and can't do anything about it, especially since the TOS is so contradictory. Numerous posters insist the Linden$ is real even though the TOS says it's a fiction, yet they strongly support the other parts of the TOS where LL abdicates all responsibility.

In terms of this thread, my comments defending posters who are new or new residents, or those who may be naive or not part of the cligue, or maybe have comprehension problems, now you brought up the kool-aid comment.

So to quote the immortal Ripley from Aliens, "Did IQ's drop sharply while I was away?"

Its not that trolls appear on RA, it's that Actual residents, occasionally post on a troll forum.

Rebecca, you miss my point. I'm not remotely interested in your justification why you felt it necessary to blanket insult all those who didn't agree with your view, more in the fact that you are preaching tolerance and sensitivity to thread starters, yet singularly fail to uphold those values yourself in the course of the discussions that ensue on these boards. *That's* why I brought up the Kool-Aid remark. It is entirely valid in this context, so please spare me the holier than thou trip.

To be honest Max, I'm off from these forums too. No great loss I suspect, but still I used to enjoy learning new things, the informed discussion about the future of SL, and yes the light hearted threads too.

I know the thread you are talking about and I know who coined the phrase "kool-aid" first, it wasn't Rebecca, it was on a completely different thread to the one you quote and the person in question is a very well respected estate owner in SL who coined it to describe himself... in that he believes whole heartedly in SL and its future.

At the end of the day, I think everyone is beating about the bush here.

Since "Black Friday", the threads have been working fine. Some nice off topics, but mainly a lot of Resident Questions being Answered. Why is that I wonder?

We all dance about this subject, but every one on this thread could easily name the 8 people who formed the so called "clique" and decided that the Board was their own personal playground to do as they see fit.

Since Friday, some have gone quiet, but to be honest most have actually returned to being the nice, normal, caring individuals that I'm sure they are everywhere else.

I've said a few times, this is not about naming names, nor is it a problem caused by individuals. Often groups or "cliques" just get carried away.. the members reinforce behaviour and it needs just a little realignment and everyone is happy again.

There is really no need for drama, trauma or name calling. The situation was as described, and this view has been voiced by many Board members over and over again.. to the point that even Millie mentioned it when she closed one of the threads on Friday.

The situation is no more, possibly because the group in question honestly didn't realise how much the were p*ssing people off, or maybe just the fact that Millie said she was sick of what was going on was enough to let the scales drop from some people's eyes.

For anyone to stand up and say that the "situation" didn't exist and didn't get way out of hand shows either a monumental self absorption or an almost psychotic need to deny what happened.

For all the people that say they want names and links to threads I'd say grow up. The reason that we "bah humbugs" don't provide that which is blindingly obvious is simply out of empathy for the people in question.

We can see that the behaviour was an abherration, we've all been there, and we don't want to upset people. Besides which I'm pretty sure Millie would stamp on any naming of names anyway.

That's all I can be bothered to say really.

Take care.

I didn't ignore any threads and I still have no idea what he is talking about.

I also have no clue what "Black Friday" is.

Yeah, me either. It's actually very common for the regulars not to post as much - or sometimes at all - over the weekends.

Come on Stephen, name some names. Don't just throw mud, then slink away like a coward.

If you will look the pie threads and spam from the end of last week weren't from any of the eight you try to slander in your post. But that doesn't fit your prejudices now does it?

I'm not even sure if I switched to Devil's advocate I could come up with the 8 names he mentioned.

I could come up with 15 or 20 regular posters who seem comfortable enough to be "social" about their posts here ... but thats entirely different.

I mean unless you pick the 8 posters with the highest post counts who have told more than x number of jokes on the forums in the last 30 days. But that seems rather arbitrary.

Oooo, if we're basing it on post count, I'm pretty sure that means I get to be in the clique. Yay me!

Oh, it's much worse than that in this forum. A lot of people here refuse to accept clarifications, believing that they know better about what a person meant than the person him/herself. There are some real idiots in this forum - plenty of them.

Funny how different people view things so differently. I found some of the answers this week-end to be Unhelpful, Condescending, Immature and Cynical. Not by everyone of course, but by a few regulars here.

They may not be considered in a 'clique' since they rarely interact with anyone on a thread, but these rare individuals just can not pass a thread without posting a smart aleck remark. There negativity permeates RA. It's like they need to mark their territory.

I've always said that there were many 'sub-groups' here in RA.
Give me the Banter Clique anytime. I might not always get the jokes, but they're never purposely nasty. They get their kicks elsewhere.

I hate to see so much sadness and ppl leaving.

This is just nuts guys. Its just a forum really. I have had just one bad experience with one I did leave that one for good, so I can empathize. However it was much worse than anyone here can even imagine. Its nice to take a break from posting but please come back and be with your friends soon. :)

If not take it easy and good luck to all.
