From: Arcadia Codesmith I looked up "elite" in the neo-con dictionary, and it translates roughly into "somebody who's smarter and/or better educated than I and who disagrees with my ideology". I use the neo-con dictionary to sit on when I am driving my monster truck throught the woods to hunt and drink beer and watch football and hunt and hunt.

From: Ulrika Zugzwang Yes. The elite that you have to "push back" against. You should change your avatar photo from a raven to a coo coo.
~Ulrika~ Actually, he should just change it to a cheap streetwalker and be done with it... between 'going to the mat', 'going all the way', and 'taking it to the limit', I can think of no other image more suitable.... right down to the insistance that, somehow, it is always someone else's fault and he's just a 'misunderstood' person trying to bring joy and light to the world. -snicker- Gotta love the poor, deluded fool actually thinks no one noticed the missing 'more' which demonstrates he did, in fact, lie. (Not that this surprises, mind you, it is pretty expected at this point... once a person embraces a lie (in this case, 'what I do here matters', 'people are out to get me', etc) they will fight harder to evade the truth because they do not have to accept that everything they are doing is pointless and will never bring the end they seek.) What a whack-a-doodle.

The irony is that arbitrarily labeling people as "elite" to justify taking potshots at them is its own form of elitism.

For some odd reason, I'm reminded of Robert Crumb's brother in the documentary film Crumb who suffered from graphomania - a disorder where the victim cannot stop themselves from compulsive writing. Interestingly enough, graphomania often manifests concomitantly with other personality disorders that have symptoms like paranoid ideation or severe dissociative symptoms - where dissociation typically shows as detachment from reality and evidence.
I wish I could figure out why this comes to mind...

Also, stating the fact that, "arbitrarily labeling people as 'elite' to justify taking potshots at them is its own form of elitism" is also it's own form of elitism. You and your FIC trappings. I am disgusted, Chip!

From: Ulrika Zugzwang Hmm. That would make all liberals and leftists elite compared to neo-cons. Not all of them are stupid. Some are very bright. They're the ones cynically manipulating the stupid ones. * * * Okay, okay, that's not fair and balanced. There are conservatives who are both well-intentioned and bright, and you can have a resonable conversation with them, agree to disagree, and walk away feeling good about the exchange. But I don't think any of them have internet access.

Uh...Ingrid? Earth to Ingrid? Could we get some examples of "lies" and "twisting" the facts, please? Geez, I thought you had put me on ignore and concluded that it "feeelllls good." Back so soon? Surely you don't mean a "lie" is that I said you didn't even place in the JL contest -- I'm actually shocked to find out that you came in third. I don't know how I didn't remember that. But..ok, let me set the record straight if I can take you at your word: hey, everybody Ingrid, came in *third* in the The Sims Online Johnny Lace theme architecture contest. Woot!
Um, Ingrid, and everyone else, I didn't lie about Lordfly's negrates. Why would you lie about a thing like that, knowing he'd run squealing to the forums? I negged him on two accounts, one of them was in his rentals group renting from him (sure left that in a hurry). When people are so blatantly, intensely nasty to me on the forums, that's what I do -- I leave, and I negrate, on that account, and my main account. But I don't waste my life on it, and I said as much. It would be hard to figure out any motivation for "lying" here -- to brag in the forums I *wasn't* negging Lordfly? Then neg him? But the whole value of public negging is to get people to tie their lousy forum behaviour to the virtual world they inhabit (whatever their cynical attitude toward it).
When I say I've supported Lordfly's architecture, and he writes back snottily "Not any more" to show off, why, I neg him with the same phrase in quotes, and I leave his rentals with a "not any more" too. Just stands to reason.
Now, could we get back on track with this thread? I think I've learned some further useful things lately:
1. Being in the tekkie wiki means never having to say you are sorry. You are never wrong. You never make a mistake. You are always right. If someone challenges you, you can pulverize them either with withering scorn shored up by your in-group, or massive displays of your technical knowledge.
2. Being in the tekkie wiki means that you make a sharp, highly-intelligent snap judgement of someone or some issue, because of your penetrating analysis capabilities, but ever after, you never let yourself get confused by the facts. You just keep taking everything literally, and keep repeating the same thing because it was true once for 5 minutes
3. People in the liberal arts learn to *revise* as in *revising a paragraph*. People in computer technology merely learn to make a new numbered versions. The previous numbered versions were just that -- yesterday's numbers. They aren't a "mistake" or a "revision" but actually never more to be thought of -- they go down the memory whole. Who ever thinks about version 1.4? Or who ever thinks about the fact that version 1.7 is going to obliterate our current 1.6. The fact is, the current version represents the ne plus ultra of testing and re-testing and there's no need to look at the past.
4. If a technical solution can be thought of for something, use it. No matter if it means jerking everybody around, bending things out of shape, costing money and labour. Use the technical solution. It's always best. If there is a softer option or a psychological option or a public communications option, well, that's merely looked at as a means to explain why current version 1.6 in fact isn't as wonderful as we thought it was -- but we will have forgotten everything we ever thought about 1.6 being good or bad as soon as we get 1.7.
5. Being in the tekki wiki means shedding any kind of liberal humanist values like freedom of speech, freedom of assembly etc. in the name of licentiousness just for my tribe or that tribe that prevails.
There's lots more I could say. I'll spare you. Just keep talking. Your posts explain more and more who you are, with each passing day, and convince me and others why your way is not a model for our world.

That's really surreal. I had this thread opened up on my screen, ready to bump.
I think I have a minor change to this though. In order to keep from shrinking, we should probably move beyond that techi wiki culture.
I have calculated, based on GOM volume, that we have been barely growing over the last few months (nevermind what the propaganda says).
Free accounts are not going to entice people to want to contribute to the techi wiki, either.

I agree
07-04-2005 19:36
From: Huns Valen I think Beau is right. I'm into every bit of LSL, prim torture, and really really digging deep in to SL. But it isn't worth squat if an average n00b can't find some fun. While Tringo, Bingo, Blingo, Fungo, Oingo, Boingo may seem to "clog" the events... it isn't doing so with lack of demand! I took a break from Tringo, and you know what.. I still love it, and I love showing the game to n00b. I often play at a loss and don't care... All the details are nice for making new discoveries in SL, but believe it or not its still a place some people just want to log on have have fun with. The Ivory Tower will never be as popular as say $500+ night at bingo. There are a lot of complaints about SL, but few who do anything about it. I never thought there where enough classes, and now I'm bustin' my butt teaching and learning to teach. I'm I ranting? Better stop now What was my point? oh yea.. I agree.
