Boycott SLExchange?

you guys are all messed up. the guy is obviously crooked! but he's making everyone money. i give him two thumbs up! he's owned up to his mistake.

What breech? Where is the contract? Where is proof of the facts? I am a lawyer, show me the facts; present your proof.

This is hearsay from an uninvolved third party who cites other hearsay as fact. If Merwin wants community support then let him speak, otherwise it's not our place to inject ourselves into a private dispute.

Yes. I sent Apotheus a PM stating my displeasure and impending boycott. I also gave tomorrow as the deadline. It's only fair. He told me to sit tight and that things would be resolved soon. If there is no news, I'll proceed with a grass-roots educational campaign and boycott. If this is settled in accordance with your contract, I'll start an account and sell my own wares there.

I understand that you don't approve of this interjection but I feel compelled to do so. For whatever reason I am very sensitive to the unethical business practices that permeate SL and that LL turns a blind eye to. I am no longer in charge of the Neulatenburg Projekt, now that it's been handed off to a group of elected representatives, so I am free again to engage in all sorts of controversies. That's why I jumped on this with such zeal.

Anyways, I'll keep you all abreast of my plans before I take action and let you know if I hear anymore news.

I would like to apologize to Apotheus for describing him as a criminal in a previous post. It was wrong for me to do that. I was really overzealous. For those who know me, they will recognize instantly that it was my passion for justice, that clouded my judgement.

I have now relaxed considerably and am waiting to see what happens. I am very serious about moving forward with a boycott if this is not resolved to my satisfaction. Much like you demanded that I make amends for my behavior, now is the time to demand the same from those who run our business in SL as well.

Morality doesn't come and go depending on mood. You should apologize to both Apotheus and Merwan, then apologize to the forums at large for your libel and unjustified attacks on SL Exchange.

As anyone knows, I usually don't use this kind of language, Ulrika, which shows my anger at your stupidity, but ... (edited). This has nothing to do with you. Everyone recognizes that your foolish posturing is nothing more than an personal ego boost and an attempt to subvert the very company that you want to compete with. It's a shallow, and sleezy move.

So how would this boycott work? Simply a call to sellers to stop using SLE? What if they refuse? Will venders that continue to sell through SLE become subject to a boycott as well? Will you attempt to influence purchasers to boycott SLE and stores that use them? How will would you go about convincing people to care?

I am just curious how this will work as I'm not seeing a whole lot of support for this boycott and find it hard to believe that the average person is going to care enough to make a dent in anybody's profits.

It would seem to me to be some sort of sick reverse psychology. I know I for one, won't patronize any forthcoming business. Pot hot, ouch!

I'm planning on doing this entirely in world. I'll write up a notecard explaining the situation in great detail, being careful not to say anything that I don't for a fact know is the truth. I'll then ask merchants if this is the kind of business that they want to be associated with and ask them to contact Apotheus for more information. I'll also include a link to the forums for people to join in on the conversation. Finally, I'll recommend that they share the information with others and withdraw one or all of their items in a show of support. Standard boycott -- education and action.

Whether it will have any effect or not is difficult to say. If this situation is as bad as I think it is, I believe most reasonable people would be willing to part with at least a fraction of their income to make a statement. We won't know until we try. It will be a first for SL.

I think it's important to remember that someone is in breach of contract. If not on principle, I hope some will at least be sympathetic with Merwan's plight, whether he admits he needs help or not.

No, Ulrika, I will not. You were vicious and unjustified in your attacks. You tried to subvert your competition in the name of "ethics" when you clearly have no understanding of ethics yourself.

I think that if you're surprised at me for saying that, then you should take a second to reflect. I do not react like this in the forums normally. It would take something extraordinarily and obscenely self-serving and malicious to provoke me into name-calling. Somehow, you've succeeded. Congratulations!

I do apologize for losing my temper in the face of Ulrika's two-faced, self-aggrandizing, vicious attacks. But I'll probably do the same again if I see another similar post.

Cubey do you honestly think this was about subverting competition? Her request to create an open source version of all of this was borne out of this situation happening in the first place, so the charge that she is trying to drum up support for her own venture at the expense of SLE is silly. This situation is damaging enough on its own, regardless of her call for a boycott. Your viciousness in response is no more justified than the viciousness you are accusing her of - you can blame her on provoking you all you want to, you are responsible for your own actions.

Oh Ok. So sellers that continue to use SLE as a service will not be subject to your boycott (If I understand you correctly). I don't know what the big deal is. If I were SLE I would say "bring it".
