I feel very strongly about this Cubey. I refuse to allow business to operate like this in SL. No more mob rule in SL business! Breach of contract and self-admitted blackmail are true RL crimes. It is more than enough to justify raising consumer consciousness through a boycott.

Excellent point. I will be releasing my vendor and voting code (LSL and web) as open source. I will follow with a simple version of an online retail store opensourced as well.

Ulrika, if you are serious about a boycott, and it seems you are, shouldn't it go beyond just the website and extend to the merchants who continue to list there as well? It seems like making it clear that we won't support anyone who continues to do business with a questionable organization would be important in order to drive it out of our second lives.
If merchants are free to list there and still get sales from people honoring the boycott via in-world sales, what real presure is that going to put on them?

A couple genuine questions for you with regards to those 2 sentances...
1) Who are you to demand anything from SL businesses?
2) And what makes you think all businesses in SL are run by crooks?

If we're demanding things...I demand you let the swelling in your ego go down a bit before posting again.

I have been quietly reading about this situation last night and today. I wasn't even aware about this until yesterday, and I must say that I truly admire Merwan for acting in such a calm and respectable manner. I use SL Exchange as well, but I find that it's too soon to make a decision, especially when I don't have all the facts (rumors and anonymous tips are not facts).

Ulrika, while I do not always agree with your opinions, I do think that you speak up for many people that are afraid to do so. This time it has been too premature (you yourself admitted to "jumping the gun". The only thing that I can do for now is give you some advice: starting a premature boycott will only hurt your chances of getting what you want and will turn people against you. If you truly want to start a project similar to SL Exchange (and I admire that you are not looking to for a way to enforce capitalism by making the system cheap or free and open-sourced), I suggest that you go ahead with your plans. Once you go ahead with your project, you will be most likely to succeed by attracting merchants (even more than the other sites). If you keep making enemies and pissing people off, then your project will most likely fail. In other words, don't get involved in the dispute... if the business fails, then it did so due to this situation and not because of someone else's meddling, which will only hurt the person that meddled.

For me, it's a little premature to even bring up the idea of a boycott, since we don't have any solid info. It's an internal, management issue - I don't think there was ever a question about the commitment to SL Exchanges merchants or customers.

I find this statement quite amusing, personally. I guess Ulrika is now GOD, and with the wave of her pixilated finger just do away with whatever she doesn't like. Hmm. No more mob rule? when has the mob ever ruled in SL, it always seems to me that ppl are quite apathetic except for the loud few who always seem to want to stir up drama. I hate drama, and I hate drama queens, they are so tiresome. Yes Ulrika, breach of contract and balckmail are RL crimes, if they are "proven" and not just "alleged".
