Well I for one i am very sad to see someone go way from SL so sad :( :(
And tho i dont know most the people you have listed I do know  (Blue Burke) GRRRRRRR!!!! lets just say him and I have had are runins befor
i have been told i play the game different from most players out there But some just take all the fun out of the game.

Sadly, most of the people on this list, are well-respected community members. Cat is obviously having a difficult time right now, with her being alone for the holidays, her husband in a far-off and dangerous land.

It's one thing to leave SL because you disagree with the community-at-large, but it's another to name a few people and villify them on the forums.

omigod... Catherine is leaving SL for good? Again?

/me sighs

From what I hear, she has not left. Really, she should probably just take a breather from SL. Sounds like her RL is extremely stressful right now, so some time away might help.

The only thing you get when you kick someone who is down is a broken foot.

Having fun are ya?

May you never feel as bad, low and lonely as Cat does right now.

Or - better yet - maybe you should.

One word for you trolls and ill-will wishers - SHAME ON YOU

If you are so together - then get with it and rise above petty feelings for the moment.

Do you really think she's leaving Ursa?

At this point, I don't know if I even believe if her husband is in Iraq or if she's even married.

See "Boy Who Cried Wolf" for reference.

From: Barbarra Blair

(1) Neg rating without an explanation or a chance for the offender to explain is griefing, and griefing of the worst sort. A neg rating can't be removed the way a ban can. If I want to check out someone's neg ratings, I look at ratings given, not ratings received.

(2) Putting up insulting signs makes the creator of the signs look bad, not the name that happens to be spelled out in the sign. That is so obvious, I can't even imagine someone trying to retaliate in this way.

(3) How does anyone else's approach to SL interfere in any way with other people being able to do whatever they want? That I truly do not get.

Thank you for making sense of all this, Barbarra. The only thing I might argue against is your third point, but I think in most cases, someone else's approach wouldn't really interfere with my ability to choose.

I had inworld conversation with Cat way before this thread and other trouble started. She had just bought Ross prop and was building for XMAS. She told me about her husband then. So it wasn't that she was low and looking for 'attention' -- she was quite happy and looking forward to making the a good xmas in spite of her being alone for the first time in a very long time. I remember thinking then that it was going to be a tough time this holiday. AND in any case, when someone is down like Cat gets... its very real for her even if you and I don't see or understand the problems. They are irrelevant - what begins to matter is that we will lost a member of our community - even if its for a short or long time - because we aren't creative enough to figure out how to help.

Making the problem worse is easy - I contributed to it myself in another thread awhile back - I didn't recognize the depths of her despair. I have since then sent her a private note of support - apologizing for causing her to feel like I don't care about her.

All I know is that she seem unhappy and need help. Please give Catherine break now. When she feel better there is still enough time to discuss some topics. But right now is simply not the time.

Sometimes these forums can be very cold and cruel. But you, who is sitting in front of one keyboard should always remember the real person who is reading your posting, the real person and her feelings, her tears, her desperation. I sometimes wished some people would have remembered when posting about me. Now I wish you rather flame me again, because I have one thick skin and my husband is not in middle east but here with me and hug me.

She's done this 4 times since I joined SL.

I was sympathetic and bought some of her land (for a hugely inflated price) the second time it happened.

This time I just don't have the energy for it. I'm sorry if that makes me seem callous or unfeeling. I'm really not. I just don't buy it this time. :(

What is sad is this is going to happen a few months down the road yet again.

I'm sorry about her being alone on Christmas, but many others are too and they don't act this way.

I seriously believe professional help may be needed. Someone to help sort through the problems and the stress. Taking out your stress on the SL forums is going to cause you more grief. You've done this before .. I honeatly don't know what you were expecting to happen this time around?

You've got another thread now that is all about you and positive notes. I'm sure that will feed your sympathy needs for a few months at least before the next cycle begins.

You know, Ursa... I really do have a heart and I usually do give a shit. But I've seen Cat do the "I'm leaving SL for good" thing just a few too many times.

Forgive my cynicism, but I find it all just a bit amusing.

Marcos - its not about you believing or not believing that CAT will actually leave this time. ITS ABOUT someone getting to that level of frustration and unhappiness that to HER it seems the only solution to what issues plague her. SO, while you aren't maybe being callous, you do perhaps lack compassion. I don't know what else to say.

The Boy who Cried Wolf is a fable with a moral to the story - we all know it. The 'boy' in the story was being devilish - tricking the villagers - I really don't think that Cat is at all trying to be devilish at this point. She is more likely filled with despair.

Kris,

Thanks for some intelligent and sensitive postings.

Lordfly,

Your postings demonstrate the sensitivity of a rhino with diarrhea.

Ursa,

Thank you too for the voice of reason.

pandastrong,

I suggest that you ask an old-timer here about the people who have been hounded on these forums. There were idiots like Regnar Bell, who contributed nothing to sl. But of those who have contributed, and have made a difference here, and have then been hounded unmercifully on the forums, you'll find that most, if not all, have been female. The only exception I can think of is Fizik Baskerville, and then, ironically, one of his attackers was Catherine. But at least she had the decency to talk to him inworld and then change her views.

To me this all demonstrates something very unpleasant and very unhealthy in some of the members of this society.

For everybody else,

What I find most amazing about this thread is the total lack of empathy displayed by some posters. Some people just want to talk about themselves, others want to demonstrate how clever they are by pointing out fallacies in Catherine's viewpoint, or by pointing the finger at an alleged alt. So what if she is still here? So bloody what if she does come back again? So what if she has attacked people unfairly? She is clearly a very volatile and emotional woman. Anybody who has been here any length of time will know how creative she is, and what she has brought to this world. They will also know how kind and generous a person she can be. They will - if they have a mental age above that of a retarded chimp - know that someone who has those mixtures of qualities will sometimes lash out at the wrong person and not always act as wisely as they might when put under pressure, and that we sometimes have to make allowances for people who are vulnerable.

Yes, she becomes irrational when she is attacked. So do we all. In Catherine's case more so perhaps than the average person. So what? Can't you see what you are doing to her? Or do you just not care?

Those who have given her support, even if it's qualified, have gained my respect.

Catherine, if you are still reading this, please know that you have the respect and admiration of many people in second life. I do hope that you will return to us, because more than most you exemplify those qualities of creativity and generosity that second life once upon a time seemed to be about.

I tried to read this thread in it's entirety but gave up.

I will post because my name is on (at the top even!) of the list of people who drove Cat away. Here is my one and only comment on the matter:

I do not ackowledge anything I did or said on the forums or in world as being of sufficient malice that it should force someone to leave. I lampooned many, many posts and I lampooned the topic itself. I do not apologize for this, and in fact if she (or anyone else) comes back and posts similar things in a similar volume, I will respond exactly the same as I have. Thats how I am, and I am not walking on eggshells when someone is as vocal as Cat was about a subject I find amusing.

I offer no apology for forcing Catherine to leave, and I do not take any responsibility for it. It is her choice and if she chose to leave because of my sharp brand of comedy, then she chose poorly.

I have no further opinion or comments on the matter,

With Regards,

I think that its really not amusing if you can get passed thinking that you are not being a fool for believing her. Once again, some of us seem to be hung up on thinking that Cat is trying to put one over on us. Well, open your eyes. I personally don't care about that part of it. Its beyond that part of it.

AND I also think you guys have hearts, its just not 'manly' to put your arms around someone you perceive to be a liar and a nuisance. Common take a different perspective on one of your SL family members. Transcend! :D
