Agreed - asking someone to please stay is quite different than saying "oh the drama, you'll be back again". Catherine has always been passionate to a fault - her best of intentions normally wind up collapsing on top of her and trapping her underneath. She and I have had our differences, but beneath all of the contradictions that make Catherine (and any of us) who we are, she is an amazing person with a very good and surprisingly fragile heart. She just has been her own worst enemy at times and let what goes on in the forums impact the SL that she loves so much, which is a shame. I do hope that Lordfly is right and she does return, not so that he or anyone else can say "I told you so" but because she is a part of the fabric that has made SL special.

Catherine, if you read this, please know that you will be missed - and I hope that you do have a merry christmas, in spite of all of this. Thank you for letting me spend time with you recently - any time I have ever spent with you in world has been wonderful.

Catherine posting this thread and naming myself and others as her reasons for leaving SL and ruining her Christmas, is low... I will not be blamed for ruining someones life simply because I disagree with them(Yesterday was my first disagreement and even speaking directly to Catherine).... Catherine I would recommend you seek some help... and I am not saying this to be mean, but your actions reflect the personality of one with suicidal tendencies, or at least threatens about it to get attention or his/her way. There is help out there...

I think we will all miss her. I mean she says shes leaving and there is 3 pages of posting. Yes Cathrine even the "evil" Blue Buke found you entertaining and in some way I think I'll miss ya too. Merry Christmas to ya.

When I first met Catherine it was through her free apartments for noobies. It didn't last long but I thought it was a nice gesture of someone who really wants to make an impact on players of SL without bleeding them dry through land sales or casinos or whatever else.
Nobody is to blame for this though, it's just the way it is in a system that can be gamed and exploited at the expense of the average joe. I think Catherine is passionate in her views of the way things are becuase the real creators seldom seem to get any credit unless it's a huge undertaking by a group. It takes a whole team to build something like Neverland and Olde London or the Halloween horror stuff but it only takes one person to play the system and bleed the economy.

I also don't think it's respectful to make fun of someone who is obviously having a rough time of things. Leaving and cancelling selling off all your assets if you have any is a last ditch effort to get away from something that is causing you emotional stress to the point of breaking down mentally.

My advice to Catherine would be get a basic accoutn forget about land and anything else that has to do with money and enjoy the people you can depend on.

If anyone around here needs to be analysed I think you're the poster child. Just because you like to wrap yourself in the excuses of being "honest" and 'blunt" doesn't mean the squabbles you have had with at least as many people as Cat go unnoticed.

Cat, it's evident you've made som REAL friendships here. I think that should outweigh anything else, but that's just my opinion.

As far as being called a bitch, you can let it eat you up or you can rise above.

I noticed you said "...we keep going back to this same dance." You played a very big part in that with your threads. I know this 'money" thing drives you nuts, and sometimes I too am not that thrilled with it, but then I look at all the friends I have made, some of which became RL friends, my builds, other's wonderful builds, scripts, anims, skins, etc., etc., and I remember the SL slogan; "Your world, your imagination". It really is what you make out of it. For some it's a game, a chatroom, for others a developmental tool, and yet others a way to make some spare change, for some it's a source of heartache and frustration, just like the WWW.

I see your threads about money and it does come back to the "same old song and dance". I have to wonder why you do it to yourself? I do not mean that in an accusatory fashion. I simply hate to see you wind yourself up when you could be in world creating, inspiring, and sharing. I know you long for the earlier days of SL, I do as well at times, but then I remember, nothing stays gold forever. It's like after that first six months is over when you fell in love with someone. If you can then realize and accept that it's never going to be that way again, and be ok with that, you can move forward and grow together. If you keep holding on to the idyllic dreamscape, you will be constantly disappointed.

All that said, I will not be happy to see you go and good luck to you and yours. Happy Holidays.

I am very sorry that you feel you had to take this decision; its very sad. I know you have had a rough time on the forums.

Hopefully, after a short break away from SL, you will feel able to return and start anew, perhaps ignoring the forums altogether.

Don't let them get to you, stand your ground, hold your head high and plod along, it's what we all have to do, trust me I know it's hard, I really suffered from my forum flaming, it took me days to decide to stay, but I decided at the end of the day, If ppl don't like what I have to say tough isn't it, they can skim my posts

Sorry to hear you felt the need to leave Catherine. We haven't met so maybe now never will, who knows ?

The obsession with commerce does get a little tiring sometimes, I'm with you on that, but I do tend to find it's possible to filter out whatever aspects of SL don't suit me and concentrate on the other aspects - it's such a rich and varied environment here. Likewise, the drama, but I guess that's all part of human nature.

The feeling of wanting to leave SL can also be overpowering - as a matter of fact I felt strongly that way last night, though for very different reasons, but there are many good people here and many good reasons for staying. So I do. Just like real life - Everybody Hurts Sometimes.

Unlike myself (lol), you seem to be a well known and respected member of the community, and so a valuable part of what makes SL really tick - the community, the people - that's the true value of SL - sod the money wrangling - just ignore it

Dunno why I felt the need to stick my oar in, and I'll probably get flamed myself (don't care), but just felt the need to sympathise that's all - it can be rough here sometimes, but the issues in SL ebb and flow like the tides, things change and evolve that's the beauty of it. Hang in there.....

The key to surviving the forums, and to some degree SL, is to take the same attitude as many other people here have; you need to KNOW (well, believe blindly) that you are vastly superior to the other little plebians who post here in every way; You need to KNOW that you are more successful, intelligent, good looking and that your opinion matters more than anyone elses. Oh, and you need to know all the good put downs too. Which sadly so many people here are lacking in. They have to resort to pointing out spelling errors, use of words, and twist your meanings in order to make their 'point'.

For the most part, people don't debate here. They barely know how. It's more akin to throwing each other to the ground and repeatedly kicking in the groin til one gives up. That's how to 'win' a discussion here.

My advice: become a troll. It's easier. I used to try and make 'sensible' posts, but people don't want that. They want a pissing match. They're not actually interested in what anyone else thinks here.

Granted, no one listens to a fucking word you say when you are a troll, but you can have fun doing it
