I'm in the process of cleaning out my inventory now, between crashes. :) If I'm not done by then, which is probable, I'm in.

maybe the lindens could put an option to not see the "are you sure you want to delete this" message. this would make cleanup infinately easier. I'm still going to do it, but it would definately help.

Philip Linden: Obviously just asking everyone to delete stuff from inventory and not use objects that get email messages from outside SL isn't a sufficient solution - we need to quickly redesign to adapt to the conditions we are seeing.

Before the thunderous sound of self back-patting in the land increases to an unbearable roar, could I ask whether any of you read what Philip said?

I believe we read it, or at least I read it. While it is not the only solution that is needed it surely can not hurt and I know I need to do it anyways.

So doing what we can to help is a bad thing?

I have bought 4 secure boxes, each of which holds thousands, of items. Just move an item into the contents page of the box and delete the copy which is in your inventory. You can, of course, also move original items into one. The boxes can then sit securely and safely on your land, only accessed by yourself. Items are listed alphabetically and easy to drag back into your inventory.

At the moment I, along with everyone else it seems, cannot get in world. As soon as I do I will tell the you creator and landmark.

Philip Linden explicitly said he wasn't asking this. It wasn't out of some altruistic notion.

Many have responded with the usual wikian "altruism" that leads to vanity statements of the type "I saved Second Life" (?)

And we haven't heard yet what the effect will be of 20,000 people suddenly all emptying trash. Will that matter? Will it help? I'd like an expert to answer.

I'd like a Linden to speak on the issue of whether residents should be engaging in such voluntary clean-up efforts.

Well, seeing how I am Robin's alt, this is all starting to make sense! :D

I'm in. I keep my trash empty but there has to be a couple hundred items I can delete. If I got really ambitious and deleted duplicated items and textures the whole log in delay might be a thing of the past! :o

If I can ever get on I will think about it...seeing as it hurts to open objects folder with the mega lag.

I'm in.

I did clean mine out a couple of weeks back but I know there's stuff I can box up and I can be much more thorough at sorting out my clothes. I'm sure I don't really need 5000 pairs of white undies

Since I started this thread, can I be altruistic enough to tell you to shut the fuck up? :D

Prok, I think you may have misread the intent of the statement. (Or perhaps I did, but then I wouldn't have a post!)

I think it was more in the vein of "we can't expect to fix the problem by asking users to NOT use the system" than "emptying inventory won't possibly help", since it's clear that by doing so you WOULD be trimming down the database, just a tiny bit.

I mean, if an automobile works fine except that it explodes whenever you turn right, it's not a good thing to sell it to someone and tell them to just not turn right... hm?

I gotta ask. Why? You don't listen to experts. You mock them, insult them, and then substitute your own uninformed view for their expert opinions.

Hmmm so what i am hearing is this:

he log in issue is not going to be fixed any time soon.

It sprang up this weekend, but last weekend everything was fine, but its not a sudden problem

we spend, in essence real money on items which we put in our inventory

in order to possibly improve the game we are to delete these items.

My question is who is giving me the refundfor items i deleted?

Hey Jake!

Maybe you didn't get what I posted earlier?

From: me

If you feel entitled to an unlimited inventory, then great... simply do not participate. Start a new thread about how you are entitled and how SL has ruined your life with log in issues.

If you want I can help you in starting your own thread! It really isn't that hard. IM me in game, and I will show you how!

Oh wait, you can't get in.

What a bummer!

There was this MUD I played on a couple of years ago, and I had some great equipment. However, my burly albino minotaur could only carry 500 pounds of equipment on his person. One day, I fell this truly gnarly mob and got some nice equipment. Unfortunately, my mino's inventory was completely full. I ended up having to discard nearly a dozen jewelled eggs worth of equipment.

You're just lucky that SL has had an open buffet for so long. If players are averaging GB or TB of inventory, then it's either time to start charging them for that storage or it's time to end the smorgasbord. It's not unreasonable. There are no other MMO games that provide users with gigs of storage, and especially not for players who may have paid only a one-time fee of $9.95.

:)

I will be emptying my trash, then starting on some inventory reduction after that, if I get in this evening.

I am feeling fortunate in that I cleaned about one half of my inventory a couple of months back.

Being that Nolan has 2 years (today!) worth of items, I still have some work ahead of me. :o
