Public Apology

I would like to apologize to Prokofy for stepping over the line.

I would like to apologize to everyone else who had to bear witness to this mess.

I was wrong.

I have asked to be suspended from the forums. It doesn't look like that will happen, as LL is unwilling to set a precedent of contradicting one another's decisions when it comes to disciplinary measures. I guess I can understand this. So I will just keep my ass out of here for a while.

All I ask is that people try and look at the situation for what it really is, a ToS violation, not a litigable situation.

To those whom I have disappointed, I am sorry. I am sorry for my flippant responses to honest criticism. To those that were wanting my head on a platter; please try and look at this reasonably. I never intended to make any info I may have discovered public, I let myself fall down the chute. Guilty as charged.

Regards, Nolan

Nolan - i really don't know what all happened with you and Prokofy - but it does take courage to admit mistakes and offer a sincere apology.

I will suggest - born from my times of Trouble - if you have not already dons so, contact Prokofy inWorld and speak with him face to face.

Be well my friend.

:)

Yes, it does take a real man (or woman, lol) to write that, Nolan. I know it wouldn't be easy for any of us, and you have my respect and appreciation for it.

 Well THIS is uncommon.

Meh. We all have our moments where we froth at the mouth over an issue (Aimee thinks of her upskirt debate). But this was really impressive of you Nolan.

I don't actually know what you did, but don't be so hard on yourself. If it was that bad just don't do it again.

Stick around, deflate a few egos like my own, and keep people like Prokofy honest and in check. Nobody reasonable is asking you to tuck your tail between your legs and take off; there's no need for that.

Thanks Nolan. Most people wouldn't even recognize their wrong or, more importantly, put out a public apology for it.

The wrong has been done, but the apology is not something we see everyday. If you really wish to be banned from the forums. Just remove yourself for 1 week. A cool down periode. Just don't log on.

While it's admirable to see you own up for what you did, Nolan, I'm not going to be all grins and smiles as the other posters in here. (retracted:) From how it appears, the only reason you're apologizing is in fear of litigation.
EDIT:

On further clarification that was not included in this thread and not made obvious on others, I retract the last sentence. Nolan claims he didn't do the googling, and that removes the whole creepy factor for me. I'm sorry for any anxiety I caused with my comments.

It takes guts Nolan, and while I don't agree with what you did, its nice to see you take a step back and apologise.

There's nothing admirable about Nolan's apology. A far more admirable act would have been to (a) apologize to Prokofy face to face, (b) stay out of the forums if you feel it necessary, and (c) tell no one about it. That takes humility. It takes far more spine to do a good deed in secret than to do one in public and get recognized for it. And an apology doesn't even qualify as much of a good deed, only an attempt to make right a previous wrong, to set things back on the level. A good deed is one that attempts to improve things beyond the status quo.

I'm a bit shocked to see you all congratulating Nolan for this. Why does he deserve an award for doing what he was supposed to be doing in the first place, agreeing the follow the TOS/CS? By congratulating him for breaking the rules and then apologizing, you're all really lowering the standard of what's expected of *everyone* in SL. We should congratulate people for exemplary behavior that goes beyond the call of duty, for helping people navigate SL, for contributing to the shared culture that is the Grid. Not for being contrite about a violation of the few guidelines for behavior we have here, none of which are onerous or difficult to observe. Do you have such low expectations of us all? Is it so hard to follow the TOS/CS that we should be congratulated when we manage to do it?

I sincerely doubt there's any serious basis for litigation.

And regardless, a public apology is a mature response to an error in judgement.

Yes, it does look like you went too far, Nolan. But I'm probably not the only one who will remember why. I hope you can respond more... carefully... in the future.

Ditto.

While I appreciate the fact that Nolan did apologize, he shouldn't be patted on the back for it. Being a necessary and right thing to do, it should be expected he do it.

All the apology really means is that he's not continuing to spit in the collective eye of this community with his blatent disregard for the TOS, not to mention simple decency, by insisting he isn't wrong. I don't congratulate someone for not spitting in my eye.

Nolan, I'm sure you're not a bad person. You made a really, really, really bad series of choices, probably because you let your emotions get the better of you. I am glad you made a public apology, because it further cements that your actions were wrong, and you acknowledge that publicly, which I think will be important the next time a situation like this arises (not with you and Prok, but with others. And it more than likely will happen again.)

That being said, I see the matter as being between him, Prok, and LL now.
