And if you read the report, as you quoted yourself, ""The flight attendants were sufficiently concerned to alert the crew who in turn informed the security authorities at Malaga airport."... it doesn't actually say that the crew were concerned about the two men themselves... it could well be that they were concerned about the despicable behaviour of the 'mutineers'.

And not only did I read that report, but I read quite a number of the other 70+ reports on Google News covering it. Including the one where the passengers 'explain' their actions.

Still doesn't sound like they had any legitimate reasons to me. It seems to indicate that their 'suspicious behaviour' mainly consisted of speaking a language that may have been Arabic. Oh, and maybe getting confused at the check in queue.

I dunno, Alex. I think there's a reason that eyewitnesses are considered the least reliable form of evidence. Depending on your own state of mind (don't mean you personally, just the global "you", any particular thing you hear could take on any of a number of meanings. If there's some supposed "Asian document" (another Englishism, their "Asian" carries a slightly different meaning than the word here in the U.S.), how could his family have gotten the green light? They got in, and I think it's obvious no such requirement exists.

As to why he may have been turned back? I have no idea. Maybe he got beligerant. Maybe the immigration official just didn't like him. After all, that's reason enough under the rules they operate have to follow, according to what I know. Like I've said, I've known border guards and immigration officials to turn back people for any number of reasons. We only have this man's account to go on, and he's obviously not impartial. That's not a slight against him, he's just very personally involved. If there were others who said they heard the same, I'd be much more inclined to believe it.

I find it much more likely that there was garden variety assholery to blame, either on the part of the tourist or the part of the immigration official. That said, I really don't know. I don't think any of us do.

I agree. This was a disgrace.There was no 'other' circumstances here. When you allow couple of package tour idiots with their screaming kids to dictate who flies we're in a sorry state. A few of them tried to blame their children for what happened! Personally I find flying with these people and their horrible hyperactive children a huge torment. I would have ground the flight rather than let mob rule take over.

I read this thread with both great interest and disgust....with only a few
exceptions, I did not see anything in the way of productive or informed

I have never considered the BBC an unbiased media, they hate us and
will twist any story to that end. If this is an accurate account, than in all
likelyhood the agents in question acted in a manner that Im sure is inconsistent
with protocal ( a friend of mine worked for the customs office in vermont)
