Part of the problem is that Israel practices collective punishment. The attitude that I have come across repeatedly from many Israelis and their supporters is one that paints their arabic neighbours as contemptible untermenschen unworthy of consideration. Until the day when Israel accords the arabic community who have been the stewards of the middle east for the last 2 millenia the same respect and dignity they bestow on their own, no amount of military superiority will ever bring them peace. Serious soul-searching, not guns, will bring peace.

to shed a little more light on this:

1. Israel warned the residents days ahead of time that they would be bombing the area.

2. THe building that collapsed with all those children was not targeted or even hit. The building collapsed seven hours later. Come on, in seven hours, people can't get up and walk out of a the building?

I can only think of one lofical explanation for a building collapsing 7 hours later with people still inside: it was done by the Hasbollah themselves to make Israel look like the bad guy.

Respect is earned not given. Perhaps they could earn repsect by not funding terrorists, preaching they will drive the jews to the sea or teaching thier kids that the only good jew is a dead jew. As far as collective punishment. I suppose suicide bombers targerting civilinan targets in Israel. As in school children ridding the bus to school is not collective punishment.

Remember it is the arabs that have always vowed to drive the jews into the sea. Not the other way around. You don't like Israel fighting back. Stop attacking it. Nuff said.

Roxie, Israel is a terrorist state from the POV of the middle-east arabic community. You must remember that Israel is the new kid on the block there no matter how big a gun it wags around. Your response is predictably typical: that the Israeli POV is the only POV worth considering. Sorry, but they aren't the only people in that neighbourhood.

Roxie, how true that respect is earned! It is never given, extorted at gunpoint or demanded through blackmail. The Israelis would do well to near that in mind. So far the state of Israel has done precious little to earn respect.
