I wouldn't even know how to go about doing that, although I'll look next time I start a poll.

But it says there's 31 voters and yet if you calculate the total votes in the right hand column it adds up to 74. You're such a cheeky monkey.

I think a transparent democratic method is superior to throwing ARs into the bit bucket. Resmod power should come with accountability. If they don't feel comfortable with it, then they don't have to volunteer. ~Ulrika~ Accountability for what? I think you're trying to fix something that LL feels is not broke. I see a public poll voting for weakest resmond as a way to belittle someone already in a thankless task. It's only slightly worse than a poll voting for your favorite resmond. The last thing we need are polls designed to intimidate resmods into not doing their job The timing of this poll suggests to me that you want payback for your nambla joke thread being pulled. |

The timing of this poll suggests to me that you want payback for your nambla joke thread being pulled. When we discussed the fact that he had missed out on a joke and that no party involved in the thread and poll was offended in any way, we were dismissed and told that he nonetheless personally thought it was "uncool". This is way beyond the bounds of reasonable moderation. Frankly, given that it was based on a misinterpretation, it lead to a suspension, and an apology was not provided, I have to say it was the single worst moderation I've seen in two years. Resmods need to be accountable. It's not an anointment, it's volunteer work and there are many ready and willing to serve. ~Ulrika~ _____________________

Damn, I didn't realize I could vote for more than one.
![]() I missed the NAMBLA bit. Shame. I'm sure I would have laughed. I wouldn't have voted at all, having thought this whole bit rather silly, but the last few days of RMing has me all atwitter. I hate being atwitter, but I like to say it atwitter _____________________

...there are many ready and willing to serve. I so doubt this. Who in their right mind would want to step foot in the pile of pooh (such as this poll) waiting for them when forum residents take umbrage at their actions. The resmods can't win, even when a Linden reviews the situation and has the final word (as was the case with your locked thread). Unless, you... Nah, you wouldn't... Oh, really now, you wouldn't! ![]() _____________________

Since no one has locked this thread, does that mean they are all weak links?

Maybe its a good idea, but there needs to be a pre-text saying if you have no opinion then don't vote, and the comments needs to be locked or something so theres no
talk about who is voting for who.. And of course the lindens would need to agree.. lol.. btw Ulrika, you mentioned a rez you dont like. I think you probably made your own pool invalid because of it. But an interesting idea non-the-less. -- also another idea. Maybe the rez's should get an annonmous name to start fresh with, then people won't assume they moderated a certain way because of what they believe. But you'd still know the main names of the mod's.. (of course you'd vote them out by the alias name) Ok, and one more idea.. mods will get flack no matter what so.. The more they are in the forums the more people would complain more about them Id think. So I guess it would also need to be weighted by how many times the took action. Maybe a better way would be to have to boxes to choose on the post the rez makes and you can choose if you thought it was the right thing or wrong thing to do. then the number wont matter, only the ratio. |

A "resmod" is a "resident moderator", a person like you or me, who is chosen by the Lindens to moderate these forums. They have the ability to edit posts, close threads, and recommend disciplinary action against other residents. They were created to decrease the cost associated with moderating the forums. While they are a smart business move, there is no mechanism in place for the removal of resmods who are performing poorly, other than to wait for the pool to be replaced at pseudoregular intervals by the Lindens. I feel that giving residents the ability to vote off poorly performing resmod would improve the quality of moderation and empower the residents. ~Ulrika~ I now see why you are so loved. i now join the masses of people who love you. ![]() Thanks for clearing that up. i had the same question as well. ![]() |

Right now in the Sandbox there are several threads that need moderation desperately that are receiving no attention despite many ARs. There's a thread that has a derogatory racist term for Pakistanis in its title and another thread that has a post with an unacceptable anti-Semetic reference to WWII ethnic cleansing. It's one of the most obviously unacceptable posts I've seen in the forums in two years.
In that thread a moderator posted that the thread could stay open, if it remained on topic, without mentioning the offensive post. It makes one wonder if they read the ARs or threads at all or if they actually think that anti-Semetic comments are on topic. I wish I could cast more than one vote for a single person. *sigh* ~Ulrika~ _____________________

First off, the Lindens don't "elect" resmods. They appoint them. Just as they intend to appoint for us our entire government.
Secondly, putting up a poll with names of individual resmods inviting criticism of them individually entirely misses the essential point, which is that we had this system foisted on us in the first place. It's not the fault of the individual resmods (aside from accepting the job, of course) that they are in this position. It is the fault of the Lindens for setting up the system in the first place, rather than hiring unbiased outsiders for the job, or letting us elect our own forum representatives. (I would prefer the former.) No system should exist where some residents (resmods, in this case) are given power to influence whether other residents can even continue playing the game, or whether they will be kicked out and all their possessions confiscated. coco _____________________

P.S. What happened? What did you get the 3-day suspension for? I went and looked at some of those NAMBLA threads briefly, but couldn't figure it out.

Well, my first ever ABUSE REPORT has been filed against the original post.
I don't think it is appropriate to line up your fellow residents and ask people to take shots at them. Champie |

P.S. What happened? What did you get the 3-day suspension for? I went and looked at some of those NAMBLA threads briefly, but couldn't figure it out. Jauani created a thread called Who's the most influential athiest of the 20th century? It listed Adolph Hitler, Joseph Stalin, Chairman Mao, and myself as choices in a poll. Finding it deliciously amusing, I created one for Juauni called Who's the most influential member of NAMBLA of the 20th century? It was an exact duplicate except for the name. Everyone in the thread realized it was humor except for a single resmod who thought it was "shocking" and forwarded it on to LL for disciplinary action. I received a 3 day in-world suspension for it. Once word got out, Vares created a protest thread called Who's the most influential NAMBLA member of the 20th century? with the resmod as the only choice in the poll in the resmod forum. I used that thread to carefully explain where the resmod had made a mistake. However, the resmod refused to admit there was a mistake, accept responsibility, or apologize. Thus, I followed with another recreation called Who's the most influential NAMbLA member of the 20th Century? that changed Jauani's name to the resmod's. With that, I then received a couple of PMs and an email stating, that people have been having problems with this particular resmod. That's when I created this poll, to see if others felt the same way. I feel strongly that those abusing their role as resmods either with poor interpersonal or moderation skills should be removed. Given that LL doesn't monitor the resmods, it's up to us to make our feelings known. ~Ulrika~ _____________________

I don't think it is appropriate to line up your fellow residents and ask people to take shots at them. Was it appropriate for the professors to line up graduate students and have undergraduate students take shots at them? (Golly did they ever take shots.) Absolutely! It prevented a professor-selected pool of grad students from abusing undergraduates without the need for the professors to monitor them constantly. In fact, such a scheme is so effective, it should be a part of the official resmod program. ~Ulrika~ _____________________

When I was a teaching assistant in graduate school, the students were asked several times a semester to fill out a survey on our performance. The lowest performing teaching assistants were dismissed. This was an enormous incentive to be a professional and effective teaching assistant, given that this work was paying for part of our graduate school education. ~Ulrika~ Bad analogy. You are not the professor here. You have no authority to "line them up." I'm sure Linden Lab will solicite your opinion when they are interested. I guarantee that the Linden's don't see your behaviour as a benefit to their enterprise and emlpoyees/volunteers. Your efforts of destructive. Champie |
