This is actually incorrect. There was a PROJECTED surplus. Meaning, that if the economy had continued to boom as it did during the late 90's, there would have been one.

Of course, most people who understand economics and the tech sector realize that such projections were absurd, as the growth spawned by the tech boom was obviously unsustainable.



Social security is a pyramid scheme. It is mathematically guaranteed to collapse. You are essentially suggesting that it's ok to take money from people who do work, and give it to you.. even though those people will never get that money back.

Bush's tax cuts were accross the board. Everyone who paid taxes, got a tax cut. Go and look at the tax changes themselves if you doubt this.

I'm still wondering why exactly you believe that you deserve a chunk of my pay check. Every month, I pay a good chunk of money to social security.

I'm 27 years old. I will never see a penny of the money I have contributed to social security. The system is guaranteed to collapse by the time I retire. For this reason, I have the foresight to have a totally separate retirement account for myself, which I manage myself.

So, why should I continue to contribute to social security? Because the prior generations decided that they could just push the problem off to the next generation? It's not like people didn't KNOW it's a pyramid scheme. It's not like people didn't KNOW that it would collapse, due largely to the retirement of the baby boomer generation.

Actually, they did believe in God.. They were deists. Certainly not puritans (although some were, like John Adams), but they definitely believed in God.

Besides... You don't really seem to understand the changes to social security that have been bounced around. Most of them have focused on privatizatoin of RETIREMENT ACCOUNTS. This is not a removal of social security benefits for disabled people.
