I wonder why some members won two spots in the BL lottery using alt accounts and others who wanted to participate were not selected for one spot. I did not enter the BL lottery but I have some friends who did enter but were not selected for a spot. I guess there was no spot for them in the BL event because some other members were awarded two spots. This really seems like an unfair and exploitive use of an alt. One alt on this list is a very well known and not at all hidden personality.

Sounds like business as usual.
But uhm... inform a Linden about the alts in question or something?

Well, if they claim more than one plot, then I would have something to say. Unclaimed land is re-drawn for new people to claim.

From: katykiwi Moonflower I wonder why some members won two spots in the BL lottery using alt accounts and others who wanted to participate were not selected for one spot. If this is in regards to me, I have already apologized. I simply made a mistake by not reading the rules. Indeed, I did not claim any land as I was awaiting the verdict from the Lindens. It's all been well covered in the link provided by Vares above. The solution is that all my land has been returned and that I am disqualified from the remaining rounds of the lottery. It's tough love for someone who was up front with their mistake but understandable given the Linden policy of not allowing the appearance of favoritism. For those who have seen my Burning Life entry and are concerned that it won't be seen, relax. I've specifically designed it to wander about a sim at a high altitude such that it doesn't even need a plot of land. Frankly, I just love Burning Life and am happy to contribute and share in the artistry whether or not I have a plot of virtual earth. See you all there!

When you're done referring, go ahead post an apology here for me when you have some time. Starting threads like this are childish, especially when one considers I'm simply a PM or email away. The fact that this came from someone who has known me since my first week in SL is bewildering. I'm also annoyed that you failed to quote my reply. Childish bullshit. Besides, if you're going to do it, do it with some guts and put my god damned name in the title.

From: Mulch Ennui you are new to these forums, huh? Dammit, I was so sure that almost everywhere I looked people were complaining that they weren't allowed to name anyone. And there's me trying -not- to make a fool of myself. xD Better give up now and resign myself to my fate.

How is this an "exploit" as the word relates to computers?
It may be called callous, obdurate, and maybe a little evil, but surely not an exploit?

From: Reitsuki Kojima The word exploit predates computers, y'know Ofcourse, I'm asking this cause the way this term was used by the OP, it's suggesting "computer exploit". Not the Ye Olde "exploit" which could also have a good connotation. PS: Did you make that 3D map at seacliff? if so.. can you tell me which tool you used to do the slices?

From: Kalia Meiklejohn Well, if they claim more than one plot, then I would have something to say. Unclaimed land is re-drawn for new people to claim. No, no, no. Please think more carefully. The getting of two plots is an accident, and returning one does not in any way reduce or correct the fundamental wrongdoing. Entering even just twice will double one's chance of getting a plot at all. Or to put it differently it will substantially cut one's chance of being left out in the cold with no participation at all. Entering four alts will cut one's chance of being excluded even further.Returning an accidental extra plot, makes no adequate reparation at all. One's cheating will probably still have avoided one joining the sad ranks of the excluded. With regard to the person who stands accused, it is only fair to point out that we only know it because she got two plots, and perhaps rather naively admitted it in forum. Heaven only knows how many people did the same and we just don't know it. My issue with her is her claim it was somehow a "mistake". Even if one managed to miss the very clear request not to do what she did, isn't it obvious to everyone that this is a greedy thing to do ? Frig the odds to get others excluded, rather than oneself ? One had to actually post to the thread more than once, using different names. Logging out and back in each time. With a post at the top asking one not to - which one had to read to even know what to post. Isn't that somehow a clue ? Hardly something one can do sort of accidentally ! And as for a culprit asking someone to apologise for raising the topic - when other people actually suffered exclusion. That is unbelievable ! I ain't bitching for myself, by the way - I entered once, and got a plot. I have to be honest - there was a brief moment when the realisation that I could easily and undetectably cheat flickered through my consciousness. No more than a second before I put the thought from me. Many, many of us must have fought that tiny battle. Some won it - some didn't..............

From: Uma Bauhaus For those who have seen my Burning Life entry and are concerned that it won't be seen, relax. I've specifically designed it to wander about a sim at a high altitude such that it doesn't even need a plot of land. Frankly, I just love Burning Life and am happy to contribute and share in the artistry whether or not I have a plot of virtual earth. ! Frankly, I don't know this resident personally, But I have to say I find this quote tastes of unpleasant triumphalism. Like bragging that one has such superior skill that one can bypass the puny result of the lottery which restricts ordinary people. What if everyone excluded from Burning Life constructed something to "wander about a sim at a high altitude", presumably above the Burning Life sims, and described it and advertised it as "My Burning Life Entry". As Uma does, with a link, in the quote above. Whatever it is, on that basis it isn't an "Entry". I don't question Uma's skill, experience or talent, or her network of loyal friends and admirers. She may well have heaps of them all. What I question is her attitude to other residents, and to whether the rules for us all apply also to her. I find the idea of her diverting the attention of Burning Life visitors from the genuine entries, and consuming sim resources which she has not been allocated with a wandering display deeply offensive. Ask yourself - what if even half the excluded people did this ? Even ten of them ? I hope that the Lindens make it clear to her that this is not the proper way to proceed. I am sure some generous friend will let her share their plot, and I think these are the only acceptable grounds on which she should have a presence, if the Lindens have not allocated her a plot of her own. No cheating the Burning Life Lottery with wandering exhibits !

Actually, no. Anyone familiar with that personality knew just by looking that she had cheated. Many of us know her more familiar alts.

The real funny thing is that she may have gotten in after all with one of her "unfamiliar" alts and is laughing at us right now. I almost hesitate to post this as I do not want to attract her attention, but this is how I feel, so I am going to post it. This place has turned into AltaPalooza. And no I do not blame the Lindens, I blame the individuals who abuse the system without any conscience. From: Lorelei Patel Actually, no. Anyone familiar with that personality knew just by looking that she had cheated. Many of us know her more familiar alts.

Childish bullshit? If for one day you couldn't be the center of damn attention, I do believe the world would stop spinning.
