Well, they shouldn't have used the word architecture.
If they wanted "virtual spaces" they should have just said, virtual spaces.

The stroking beards there probably won't deign to read them over (as we have no "real" experience talking about VWs), but it's good to vent on a public space. Be careful! Cory Linden is one of the stroking beards over there ![]() Well, they shouldn't have used the word architecture. Was my point exactly in the comments over there. _____________________

Where are you Ulrika?
I'm waiting for one of your famously elegantly phrased posts on Terra Nova that makes the judges question thier intelligence... ![]() _____________________

I posted. If you go to the State of Play website you can watch the video of the event ... you can see more of my comments there.
... Let me put it this way - one of the panelists agreed with Prokofy. ![]() _____________________

I'd skip writing to the judges - but perhaps a collective letter to the organizers could be beneficial. I'd been thinking of writing along the lines of "If your panel shows such little understand of MMORPGs and Virtual Worlds, then I (we?) won't bother to enter."
Really - I'd like them to get the sentiment that I don't mind being told that my work is conventional or not good enough to win - but I want to be told that by someone who demonstrates even a little bit of understanding of the subject matter. |

I am happy to see such passion from our community here in Second Life about this. It shows we care, and despite our differences, we're united in our disapproval. LOLEX!

I'm actually entertaining sending the judges and organizers an email, however I feel I should give it a few days. I am put off enough by the judges' aristocratic disdain for our works that my post would almost certainly turn into a satisfying but ultimately ineffectual flame. ~Ulrika~ now that's one flame that I'd LOVE to read _____________________

now that's one flame that I'd LOVE to read What a gory aftermath it'd be once Ulrika is sicced on the judges... it'd be like that scene from Angel where the title character locks the doors and leaves Drusilla and Darla in the room with all the lawyers from Wolfram & Hart. _____________________

lol Torley, great image
ulrika, when you are done, can I introduce you to the judges of the Whitney and Tate biennial exhibitions? (p.s. regarding the below image, I actually like some of Chris Ofili's work, but that cartoon is too funny. A winner that appalled me was the freaking blinking lights. They weren't even special lights. It was an empty room in the Tate, with the lights going off and coming back on. oooooohhhhhhhhh!!!) _____________________

There's a big thing here. HUMOR.
Speaking of Chris Ofili, he once said: "My project is not a p c project ... It allows you to laugh about issues that are potentially serious." and, about him:His work draws on a wide range of cultural references and popular material, from 1970s comics to contemporary black music and pornographic magazines, elements which he combines with humour, subversion and an innovative approach to the use of painting as a medium. My bolding. A real theses of the feces! Source._____________________

Richard Bartle adds his comments:
Terra Nova Blog - Architecture Contest It is at the end. My favorite quote: "Sadly, as with most other members of the audience, I found that rambling talks read from rambling notes were not the best means of conveying passionate opinions about a newly-developing field." From the originator of MUDs, that is certainly something. Richard, you rock. _____________________
