Okay, I'll fess up to having submitted an entry.

And gosh yes, my "Check Mail" menu entry is getting worn out. When are they going to announce?

I just sent them an email asking when we might find out. As soon as I hear anything, I'll post to this thread.

Which build was yours? Tell us about it. :)

I am lookin' forward to see all the entries... nice that SL represented so much. I mean, it is only natural... in an electronic way... or something.

I submitted Nota Bene, the notary. As notarization is a civic function (certainly at the prices a notary charges, it ain't much of a business!), the first such facility in SL serves as a civic space. (Or so I claimed in my trying to be oh-so-theoretic-about-it write up!)

If you want to see it in-world, it is at Thyris 14,178

Cool. I hope more people submitted open space designs.

I find closed space designs in a virtual world unworkable with the way the camera works.

Now, if mouselook was better implemented perhaps it might work. Eg, you could actually chat / use the pie wheel..

That is pretty, Zarf! Makes me want to come up with some need so I can be a client, lol.

I thought they were supposed to announce winners on the 3rd?

It's pretty amazing isn't it? :)

It is true virtual-world modern art with real-world multinational community involvement.

besides trying to make a tangible connection between the "virtual" and the "public" and a design that best addresses the medium, the abstract also contains the appropriate topical references to architectural/urban planning theory that will resonate with the judges.

Someone just mentioned to me by PM that the Port is funded and directed by the Royal College of Art in Stockholm, so we shouldn't feel too bad when they stomp us. :D

Perhaps next year they can have a separate industrial/university and user category to give us traditional users a fighting chance. ;)

Better yet, Ulrika.. maybe SL as a whole can grow to be a competitor at those haughty levels in the coming year/s.

there are some really amazing builds (and more) within our world and i wouldn't be surprised to see our pool of talent become a force to be reckoned with among not only our current peers, but amongst others like the Royal College of Art as well.

honestly, i don't see why we aren't already scratching the surface of that point in time.

I agree. Provided one could get enough individuals together with the net equivalent capital, time, and creativity, there's no reason why a public project couldn't compete with a corporate- or university-sponsored project. :)

I wonder what their budget and manpower is?

As somebody who contributed, albeit modestly, to the SLCC entry, I was hoping to hear something about the winners by now. It doesn't seem possible that they haven't made an announcement yet. I can't find anything on their web page. Has anybody heard anything?

The judges certainly gave themselves a loophole...

From: someone
The judges may in their sole discretion decide to award all, some or none of the prizes listed below.

That quote is from their Design Competition Page

Under the "Judging Decisions" section.

It's certainly a little strange that they haven't made an announcement. I wasn't really in the running for tickets or a registration. The SLCC entry was a huge collaboration with many great builds, my own being the least among them. But it would have been nice to know if we were recognized.

Oh well ... I will keep watching :)

How long will the SLCC build be up, Persephone? Just thru the end of Sunday this coming weekend?

You know what? I really don't know. That is a very good question. Maybe Hiro is reading this and can comment. I hope it stays up for a little while ...perhaps some of the conference video might be available there via stream after the conference is over for those who were busy over the weekend.

The original Wolfenstein 3D engine.
