We submitted our entry to the State of Play III MMORPG Public Space Design Competition today and was curious if there were any other SL entries. I think it will be an excellent way to promote SL at a high-visibility conference.

Good luck to everyone who submitted an entry. Let's hope we sweep the awards crushing There and WoW in the process. ;) For those who are going to the conference, say hello to any folks from the City you bump into. I won't be able to make it this year but I'd love to try to make it next year.

The entry for Neualtenburg with a short video can be found here.

Good luck, Ulrika! I do hope N-burg places!

You're going up against SLCC's in-world convention. :)

Excellent! Is there an online version of the SLCC submission? I can link to it from our web page.

Good luck to everyone. :)

I submitted my public art musuem and the surrounding area. I doubt it'll get selected, as it wasn't entirely 100% complete when I submitted it.

Oh well, here's hoping.

I don't think AW has an active enough userbase left to even bother.

There might, in fact they'd be about the only other online world I could see doing it.

Unless I'm missing something really obvious.

I kinda doubt it, the artists don't get to claim credit for spaces they designed, it's Sony's/Blizzard's, etc.

After inquiring, I've been told that the winners of the contest will be made pubic on Monday the 3rd of October.

Oh, I'm sure they'd get credit as

Joe Smith of EverQuest Online

So everybody wins.

But, we'll see how it plays out, now won't we.

If SL sweeps the contest, I think Philip and Catherine should hop on a pose ball and give each team a big hug.

You know what? I'm going to go a step further and say, that I think it should be official LL policy, that all highly visible advertising that doesn't cost LL money should be rewarded with mandatory upper-management hugs. :D

There's Company To Match Prize Money
10-03-2005 18:42
This quote:
From: someone
Makena Technologies, the company that created the virtual world There, has announced that it will match the cash prize amount if any of its Thereians wins a prize in the competition.

Is from this press release concerning the State of Play Architecture Contest:

http://www.nyls.edu/pages/3868.asp

Linden Lab -- are you up to the challenge?

:D

p.s. After looking through the State of Play web site last night I realized that Linden Lab/Second Life was already a big sponsor. :o So... no worries if they decide to forego matching prize money.

On a funny note... there seem to be quite a few SL residents who charge for hugs.

;)

In other news, when the hell are they going to annouce the winner?

I find it rather inconceivable that the winner of that plane ticket to NYC will be able to drop everything less than 72 hours hence in order to attend a conference. Work, school, all that rot.

I just wanna know who won so I can stop checking my email. :P

I'm such a sneaky monkey. I looked at the Nburg webserver's stats and discovered the page that has all of the State of Play Design Competition entries! Folks were clicking through to our website. There were a lot of SL entries. I'm disappointed more SL folks didn't post their entries here in this thread. They're really wonderful.

There are a total of 26 entries of which 17 are from Second Life, 4 from Maxx Monde alone. I only recall seeing two entries from There. After looking at the entries I think SL is going to sweep the awards. Great job everyone! :)

I know. I've been checking our group forum and my email all day. I even pestered Satchmo (the one who submitted our entry) by email. :D

Unfortunately, I can't. Despite using SL avatar names for all the links, the contest holder left a few entries with an RL name at the bottom of the submitted text. Because I don't want to reveal RL information, I can't post the link.

Given that SL has by far the most interesting submissions, I hope those who haven't already posted information to this thread do so just to show off their work. How about some photographs, friends?

Yeah, I just trolled through my access logs and found the page.

Yeah, I don't have a chance. :)

Oh well.

On a bright note, the only other competitors to Second Life as a whole seems to be 2 "art" installations in RL, and a There stadium.

If we don't sweep these awards, it'll be a travesty. :P

Not only have I attempted to coerce the Lindens to match Makena Technologies's offer to double prize money if a There entry wins...

but also, by the fickle feelings of G'al, if the entry I submitted manages to snag a prize -- I stand to benefit financially from it.

I can't take it any more!

Who won?!?!

Good luck to all SL entrants!

(I'll post some shots of our entry later today.)

Here's one for now (located in southern Cowell at 153, 86):

The suspense is killing me. The same thing happened with the animation contest I entered in SL about 12 months ago. It took the Lindens days past the deadline to make a decision. :D

Well, I think that protocol is in the Linden handbook. It's something I've just come to expect from them... but not others!
