From: Satchmo Prototype In the State of Play III online program they have a session on Architecture in Virtual Worlds from 2-3. Note they also have the architecture contest listed during that panel. Maybe they will unviel the winner then, like the Oscars or something... Just speculation but I'm doing my best to be a scur-lock. So I guess they have til then, or the program will have a glaring mistake in it. I really hope someone will be live blogging the conference. Terra Nova is listed as being the official blog so maybe it will show up there. That makes little sense since the grand prize is a trip to the event. Or am I missing something? Oh maybe they won't announce the winner, but the winner already knows and is on his/her way there and has to keep it a secret.

Oh maybe they won't announce the winner, but the winner already knows and is on his/her way there and has to keep it a secret. It does make little sense unless the winner is already there. Maybe they're like the MTV music awards -- they only invite the winners. In honesty, their lack of a notification date as well as a giving out a time-sensitive prize lead me to believe that the intention was better than the planning. At this stage they're probably playing it by ear and we'll hear at the end of the session (or whenever they recover from hosting the conference). Speaking of awards with an ambiguous end dates, whatever happened to the Webber Awards? Were they awarded and I missed it while I was away? Also, I don't have you on ignore blaze, I'm just enjoying your low-grade trolling silently. ~Ulrika~

From: Ulrika Zugzwang Speaking of awards with an ambiguous end dates, whatever happened to the Webber Awards? Were they awarded and I missed it while I was away? *Hissses at Ulrika and runs* Well at some point I'm going to have to make a decision and announcement on this. But around the time the voting was wrapping up it seemed like my name was bring brought up time and time again regarding "Woman's Wear Daily" "favoritism" "cliques" and "escapist panties." The intent of award was to reward and to bring to light the positive contributions made to SL by various people. Instead, I feared that associating my name with somebody was actually turning into a "kiss of death" for them. I have been procrastinating exactly what I should do about this. There is a side of me that is hoping the nastiness will die down and this award will once again seem like a GOOD thing. So my answer is essentially... I'm sitting on this and trying to figure out what to do.

you cannot deny the will of The Scurlock!!!
typo or not, it's pretty cool.. admit it! ADMIT IT!!
(hmm.. sounds like a good lurking legend within the pages of SL:UT!)
be not terrified of The Scurlock dear Aimee, for ye have created a thing.. a thing that has life. breathed upon it from whence your imagination doth run wild. The Spurlock is not evil, even though it turns to run wild without concern of it's surroundings.
behold the creation of your making.. The Spurlock. forever legend within Second Life, forever lurking just beyond comprehension. beware it's snicker-snacking jaws, but heed it's whispers of mad logic.
this day, ye have bestowed life upon void. created legend from whence there existed none but linguistic ripples.
Hail Aimee!
Hail The Spurlock!
Hail! Hail!

The 2nd, 3rd, and 4th places don't really seem to be virtual spaces, to me... just stuff superimposed over RL.
I thought the prereq was being in a virtual world? Is a quake3 map imposed over a RL wall a virtual world?
Hmm.

Thanks J! After (finally) looking at all the entries, I have to say Maxx's Art Deco building was my favorite. Congrats to the winners. Nice to see so many entries from SL.

From: Zarf Vantongerloo I beg to differ, at least about my own submission.. [/URL] you made a flower platform in the water. the port proposed a prototype for a way to inhabit the grid that could spread endlessly in every direction. granted, yours is more pleasing to the eye, but the port is thought provoking.

The other winners are rather dismal. Also, umm, how did Relay for Life win with a word document? I thought you needed to submit a movie.

From: Lordfly Digeridoo I thought the prereq was being in a virtual world? Is a quake3 map imposed over a RL wall a virtual world? i thought the same and looked it up - here's quotes from the competition rules: From: someone Entries from all massively multi-player games and worlds will be accepted, (no stand-alone 3D software please). From: someone Please send: Location of entry (i.e. coordinates of where and in which virtual world the build can be found)
i think it should have been an SL sweep. oh well... From: someone All decisions of the judges in connection with the competition are final and are not subject to appeal or review.
