How often have you seen someone concede a point in any of these flame-filled threads?

This is my first post, but I lurked even before joining SL a week or so ago.

Hello all!

I have learned a lot from the forums and that part will be missed along with reading all the fun interaction between so many of you. (So many of you are good fun loving clever people)

But, I can see where the management of the forums is a lot of work I actually I know it is, been there done that. I don't know if LL's purpose is to 'silence' or not, but from what I have read for a while, there are bad ways and good ways to get valid points across to 'managment' and the 'bad' ways get old after a very short time .

Anyway, nice to finally say hello, and I sad to say good bye at the same time.

Hooboy, see...right there. RIGHT THERE we already see a big failing of this official blog approach. Why is it that not *all* users have an equal and immediate voice on this official blog? Something's fishy here.

*nods* I agree. What's the point of the blog system? I feel really inhibited when I to post something as a comment in response to another's comment.. Okay, I totally lost myself there.

I just feel that a blog is supposed to be ONE person's viewpoint and that alone. In a forum, you're gonna have the free flowing feel, be it foaming at the mouth, happy or depressing. You post in a forum, you're gonna get flamed from time to time. In a blog, most people will only comment if they feel they agree with you. You don't get to see the other side of the story. I'm going to miss that.. unless everyone just decides to go to another forum. I'm game for that.

As we've just witnessed, we have to wait for moderation before our comments will be added. How many voices aren't going to be heard because the moderation system decides one day to remove all negative responses? *grins wryly* It was kinda hard to shut up all the negative feedback on the forum. Some always slipped through.

Remember in the Sims, the random disasters and bizaare stuff that would happen like fires breaking out, burglars breaking in and aliens abducting someone? LL has taken that element a step further and come up with some really interesting stuff to throw at the customers to see how they react. This is just another example of the big Linden kid poking the ant hill with a stick. I'm not really going to worry until he gets out his giant magnifying glass.

You make it sound as though the forums are the only outlet for open criticism.

You are forgetting:
- in-world protests, town halls, roundtables, etc
- replies to Linden blogs
- posts on other resident forums
- creating proposals
- your own website / blog / etc

All of which are far superior to the forums in getting your concerns addressed by LL.

Most of which were organized through the forums...

I do not doubt that most of these things were announced on the forums, but I do not believe that most of these were organized on the forums. If so, please provide examples.

You SO nailed it...this is exactly how I've been feeling, and have been struggling with how to best express it in words. Somewhere along the line SL stopped feeling like a fun persistent-world pasttime and started to feel like an experiment to see how an enclosed society reacts to waves of change...with the scientist in charge going slowly mad as time progresses.

I think I may have to break out the pencil and paper and draw out this vision I see of Philip in a lab coat...wild hair, goggles and elbow-length black gloves and all...as he watches to see how well his guinea pigs absorb the latest traumatic change to their insulated little world.

Edited to add: I guess they're not called Linden LABS for nothin'! :D

Good point, they were "Announced on the forums" now explain to me how you can "Organize" a large group of people to protest if they don't know a damn thing about it.

Ayup. And all the community liaisons are the mad scientist's many and varied Igors, running about their lackey business.

This analogy is fun, if perhaps slightly inaccurate. :D

I agree. And a lot of other very wonderful things are announced on the forums that get lost in the events list in game.

I'm trying really hard to keep it from getting out of hand...really don't want to speculate about who in all of this is Frau Blucher (horse whinnies in fright off-stage)

Take a look at your own discussion. You provided examples why closing the forums will be good and others provided examples why its more than just a way to communicate with LL, its a way for members to speak among themselves.

While you think that members should be segregated according to their views, I and many others do not.

This exhange would not have happened but for the forums.

Third party forums will never be the same as LL forums for several reasons, one of which is verifiying the forum ID is the same as the SL ID.

Does this mean we are all going to have to start watching Jerry Springer to get our daily dose of bitch fighting, drama, finger pointing, psychosexual disfunction, evil-doer unmasking, and general circus side show?

Hmm, well, I'll be able to recover and trash like a half a gig of files from my website once I don't have the messages they link to any more. ^^
