From: FlipperPA Peregrine I'm not banging on anything: the key words in my post are "believe as literal". My parents are both Christians, I was raised Christian, and love many, many Christians (many of my best friends). None of them believe homosexuals are an abomination or that the Earth is 6000 years old. Regards, -Flip kk, just making sure, they're just butt ass backwards i think.. not gay ppl, but ppl thinking they are going to hell..heh

From: VolatileWhimsy Bu no you specifically said people were not tolerant if they did not accept an adult cybering with a child... I asked you to correct me.. First of all, given that Second Life would be far too complex a program for most children to use, and that young adults are restricted to the Teen Grid, I assumed you were discussing child AVATARS, not actual children. From: someone well its not OLD fascist germany (since they aren't anymore -.-) but ok.. Go look up the word metaphor and get back to me. From: someone oh i'm so extremelly flattered that I intimidated you to such a degree you feel the need to threaten me with "trouble' Go look up the word threaten, and the Terms of Service, and get back to me. I was merely pointing out that insulting people is not tolerated in the forums, but freedom of speech is.

From: Lewis Nerd Meeting once a month would be a luxury, we manage perhaps 3 times a year. My partner and I are 3500 miles apart at the moment, partly thanks to US immigration crap (but thats another story). How come we manage to get by perfectly well without Xcite attachments and cybering every night?
As for a couple "1000 miles apart separated by careers", I don't think anyone should put their work above their relationship. Nothing is more important than being with those you love.
Lewis Ok again with your opinion on what is a good reason and what is a bad reason. Who are you to judge? Being separated by careers just happens - it happens everyday to millions of people all over the world. This is not a perfect world and not everything works out perfectly to our liking --which you would agree because of "a reason" you are 3500 miles from yours. And frankly I dont know how you can manage to get by without cybering everynight - its really none of my business. Just like what everyone else does on the internet or in SL with their free time and their imagination is none of yours.

From: Lewis Nerd Yes it is actually.
We are all given the CHOICE, we make our choice and deal with the consequences. An equal choice, free will, a gift from God, yet for some reason people still choose to go to hell despite being given every opportunity to avoid it.
People. Strange.
*shrug* Ah, back to that old Catch-22 with no real proof, eh? Skeptic: "How do you know that Christianity is the one true religion?" Christian: "It says so in the Bible." S: "But that's a book?" C: "No, it's the word of God, fact, and the ultimate truth." S: "Uhhh... but the Bible was actually assembled hundreds of years after the events described, and were mainly handed down through an oral tradition to that point. Where's your proof that it is based on fact?" C: "It says so. In the Bible." S: "Any proof outside of the book that says referring to itself as 'the ultimate truth'?" C: "Nope." Skeptic then bangs his head against the wall and gives up. People. Strange. It's so easy how they turn their brains off sometimes. *shrug* -Flip

Dearly Darlings,
You have completely confused 65 year old me! Is this discussion about the morals of legally importing prudish prunes or banning prunish prudes who have cyber sex with with June Cleaver?

From: Toni Bentham I would contend that everything ever created by mankind, be it science, the arts, religion, philosophy, was done as part of a massive attempt to impress the opposite sex. I would contend that humans, as any other cognitive creatures would, do things to improve and understand their own condition. Impressing the opposite sex is a small part of one's overall condition. Not saying it's unimportant, simply that it most likely wasn't the impetous for the formation of scientific thought, or pursuit of a more philosophical understanding of said condition.

From: Vengence Opus Impressing the opposite sex is a small part of one's overall condition. When you consider things like bird mating rituals, that's exactly what it is all about - furtherance of the species. The purpose of sex is to make the next generation of humans. Enjoyment of it is merely a bonus. It was indeed designed to be pleasureable, but let's not forget that first and foremost its roots are purely practical in nature. Lewis

From: Lewis Nerd It really isn't a problem, it never has been. There are plenty of things to do and talk about in a relationship when it's not purely about the 'physical' side. This is true, Lewis - but we should remember that relationships come in all shapes and forms. While yours may have a lower physical to emotional ratio, other relationships might differ. That doesn't make any of them more or less "right" simply because they are more physical than the relationship you are in.
It makes it different.

From: Lewis Nerd Wrong.
Humans are creatures capable of having sexual feelings, but their entire existance is not based around reproduction and survival like some animals.
That is why we are a higher life form.
Lewis So, if it's "wrong" that "Humans are sexual creatures" - We reproduce by mitosis, then? I want call and tell my parents that I'm the clone of one of them. My entire existence is not based around reproduction. It doesn't make me /stop/ being a sexual creature. It's interesting to me that /you/ are in denial of the fact that humans are sexual creatures and that you feel the need to persuade others to join you in your delusion. I refuse to deny who and what I am. I am able to restrain myself, however, and I refuse to allow others to restrain me (not their responsibility) and I refuse to restrain others. .... "Higher Life Form" - ? *extremely evil grin* I've heard someone use that phrase before. And the justification for it then was also that their existence was somehow more refined than Sex and Survival. It, too, was based off the misconception that their particular "refined" tastes elevated them above others, who were "wrong".

From: Lewis Nerd Forums are just forums, nothing to be worried about. If you want to know the real me, look me up in-world, I'm often there.
It's my passion for all things SL and its general good (occasionally at the expense of the individual, which I feel is necessary) that fuel my direct, perhaps blunt, style of communication - but on the forums there aren't many other options unless you're not prepared to stand up for what you believe.
Lewis Nnnnnnno. If I wanted - by your own rationale - to know the real you, I would forgo SL and bicycle to you. You don't have a passion for all things SecondLife - you are phobic of the things that people have done with Second Life related to their own sexuality. General Good? General good is the direct result of the balancing of the rights of individuals with the needs of society. Society needs PG sims. Society has PG sims. Individuals need Mature sims. Individuals have Mature sims. hhhhhhYou think that society needs to be changed at the expense of the rights of individuals to accomodate your /preference/ which you project as being a societal /need/. SecondLife does not exist for its' own sake, nor does it exist for the sake of just you, or just Linden Labs, or just the FIC. Second Life exists for /people/ as a vehicle of /self-expression/, and by extension group expression.

I'm also actually fairly sure that society doesn't even need standardised "PG" sims, except that society needs an easily recognised standard for "Public Refuge for people who can't control themselves with respect to a vaguely defined set of behaviours, so they expect to be allowed to stop /everyone/ from even /suggesting/ those behaviours."
Living an unexamined life is /creepy/ to me. Expecting other people to limit themselves because you've placed a limit on yourself is even creepier.

Go look up the word threaten, and the Terms of Service, and get back to me. I was merely pointing out that insulting people is not tolerated in the forums, but freedom of speech is. Ok, I will apologize since I could NOT read your mind and know you meant child avatars.. Maybe if you were to be more clear in the future than mistakes like this would not happen. But I do recall asking you to clarify for me... /roll eyes If you are going to try and insult my intelligence why don't you do it a bit more cleverly.. here i'll even do it for you "someone who is a troll and talks about the most inane things as volatile does should be restricted to the teen grid since that is probably about all they can handle" or how bout this "someone who has the time volatile does with as many posts as she has made should be seriously getting some professional help, and maybe spend their time more constructively" i could go on, but you get the point... insulting someone is way easy.. Hmmm, so you felt I was threatening you? Let me assure you if I felt the need to actually threaten you any type of harm there would be no doubt in anyones mind about this.. and if the power that be decide to ban me from the forums than that is their choice and i'll take it like a good little girl ok, im thinking on it and i do feel a tad bad so i do apologize for the mishap regardless
