I'm Jonas's alt. I've always let it be known. Your point? It certainly doesn't stop the validity of my question.

I see some names here I admire and respect (but dont tell them that).

However, I think this is pretty dumb.

Linden Lab really aren't going to give a fuck if you stop selling content. And you are just giving your competition your market share.

All you will do is hurt yourselves.

All IMHO, of course.

Sure. You can hope all you like. And lose plenty of income doing it. But LL really won't give a fuck anyway. Because there's a whole bunch of content creators out there waiting to take your place and your market share.

I don't hope. I take action.

But not this kind of action.

So you guys go ahead with your protest actions. I'll stay my course because someone has to.

People like Fade Languish, Lex Neva, Michi Lumin, Darkness Anubis, and a whole lot of others know what I mean. Not to forget Torley and Brent.

Like Kris, I admire you guys and well, I admire what you are trying to do, but the cold hard fact of the matter is unless EVERY content creator makes a stand, and takes down EVERYTHING they own, including vendors, sle, slb etc etc, then it's pointless.

LL aren't taking notice now, they won't take notice unless their precious economy is hit right where it hurts or their bid for numbers, numbers, numbers is severely affected and that folks is going to take HUGE amounts of support from nearly every person that sells something in SL.

SL is changing and IMO, not for the better - but LL just won't listen, why would they, a small handful of ppl protesting or even leaving isn't going to damage them when they are letting every fucktard who wants to join in, whether they be genuine, teen, theives, your mom's dog, they DON'T CARE, that or they have totally lost the plot and are all running around foaming at the mouth, I reckon it's a close call lately. (I do love you LL, but REALLY, get a grip, eh)

This is just my opinion tho, I don't sell , I buy :D, so I prolly don't really know wtf I am talking about. But good luck! With whatever you guys do :)

Willow, LL has taken notice.

But I would still recommend protecting your stuff anyway, but for a different reason which is simply to protect your stuff.

Yes, no doubt they have, but maybe they could be a bit more speedy/vocal about sorting it out, cos it happening every other day and ppl getting away with it realllllly isn't "taking action" in my eyes.

And I don't have stuff! well I do, but it ain't worth much :D

Software changes do not occur overnight, assuming otherwise is really foolish. I'm not expecting any results until at least two weeks from the confirmation that a bug has entered the system. Lex and I have emails from Brent and Torley confirming that at least the texture theft exploit is already in the system.

I cannot speak for the other problems because I'm not the reporter/investigator.

It is likewise foolish to keep stuff you want to protect out in the open while LL has not fixed things.

Perhaps if Linden Lab changed the focus of their promotion towards "having fun" instead of "making money", and people weren't so concerned about making money, paying tier from selling stuff, and cashing out on Lindex, the world would be a better place for all.

When you build things for fun, it's for the good of the community.

When you build things with profit in mind, it only serves your own end.

There is far too much commercialism in SL as it is. We need less of it, and you guys aren't helping.

We hear you. This is your opinion, you've made it well known. But your opinion is not the law of the land, not everyone shares it. (speaking for those I know) We create for fun. We create for the community. We create for profit. Guess what, we do it in that order 99% of the time. There is commercialism in RL, there is commercialism in SL and you know why? Because its the same people in both places. An artist doesn't want to starve in SL any more than he/she wants to starve in RL. Now enough hijacking the thread already.

As to the actual topic: I understand what you guys are doing and I'll cross my fingers for you, I'll watch for voting features, I'll support you in any way I can because I get it. But bottom line, I just don't want to take down my stuff. I like being able to give stuff away, I like selling to my customers, and I like running my little store and I don't want to lose it.

Frankly I lose money when SL closes for updates even (which is something I simply accept as part of business in SL) If I closed my doors for more than a day or two I'd lose more than money, I'd lose momentum and customers and possibly have to start all over. Plus I have a mall and vendors to take care of. I have no right to be shutting down anything without their approval. But I do understand and I wish you the best of luck.

EDIT: And with that I am off to bed....keep it fun all. :)

I'm in.....

however, what is effective about closing your own shops, or basically spending any energy in world to protest? I mean, I get it, and I don't get it. Lets say these protests happen in the most idealistic fashion, and LL hears your voice, why would these protests cause them to change anything? In RL when there's a protest or strike, production stops, people lose money, things don't function properly, etc... but in SL, how is all this going to affect LL in any way?

Why not organize a protest and do what is being done to us to LL? Why not also start doing non-griefing tactics that will directly effect LL?
copy the linden property, builds, and objects
start selling freebees
have every call into the town hall meetings be stating this problem
stop buying land and stop bidding in auctions
give in world lindens the silent treatment
delete your alts
stop buying lindens$
stop helping newbies
stop teaching classes
I see these tactics hitting LL harder than closing your own stores

"The first rule of the sellers guild is we do not talk about the sellers guild"

Strangely enough, neither is your opinion the 'law of the land'.

I more than qualify to join this group, as I am a content provider, yet I keep my prices deliberately low in my small store in order to assist others in obtaining stuff they need without having to pay through the nose like many suppliers charge. But that's because I do it for fun, keeping the game in its proper priority in my life, rather than stressing about profit.

I think a group for the deisgners of SL is long overdue. We need a group where we can eeasily share information when something happens. One of the best ways to act against theft is very quick shutdown of sims and stores via banning to those known to be involved. Designers need a way to communicate with each other and support each other. This is my reason for joining and why I invited around ten other content creators i know to come with me.

Never made a lot of difference before... look how much we argued against unverified signups and got ignored.

Just because it didn't work before doesn't mean you should stop trying, throw your hands up and give in.

Lewis is 100% correct - content is content.
I think most people do it for enjoyment. I don't really care about the financial side which is why I can, and have stopped producing content. What I do care about is my time and creativity - that this can be stolen by anyone at anytime without fear of reprisal simply isn't good enough.
