We have decided that we are all sick and tired of creating content to enhance a game that does not give us the protection of our intellectual property. Bugs, exploits and lack of enforcement is making it less and less attractive to create in Second Life.
I am sure you all know of someone...a friend..maybe even yourself who has been the victim of texture theft or prim mirroring or exploiting a bug, for the sole purpose of profiting from someone elses labor.
This has GOT TO END. Everything is held "server-side" by Linden Labs on their "Asset Server". Identifying original creators is simple. We DEMAND better tools and BETTER PERMISSIONS! We want enforcement of WARNINGS, BANS and ACCOUNT DELETIONS.
If there are no consequences for the actions of these scammers they will continue to thrive and flourish.
We intend to stage peaceful protests through shop/sim closings, sit downs and picketing.
We encourage all content providers to join our group "SELLERS GUILD". Look it up in Search/Groups..its free to join. We have started a grass roots collaboration of members already. ONE VOICE..ONE GOAL...protection of our textures/content/intellectual property.
And ENFORCEMENT by Linden Labs to ensure that it stays protected!
We intend to lobby Linden Labs with constructive suggestions and ideas of how to accomplish this goal. It will take the support of many to enforce consequences for violators. We dont want to flood the AR system...but we are tired of the seemingly "blind eye" turned toward these THIEVES.

We are constantly having to RESCRIPT everything we sell everytime LL breaks previous code. The IM's are torturous at best. We want to see some reciprocity when updates are done between working features and new ones.

I want to add also that SL updates should not break all previous versions of a script. If we sell something that works we dont want 1000s of copies that suddenly don't work and need replacements. Its too much time and effort! |

I don't sell anything, I'm more of a GNU guy. Capitalism just keeps secrets and is unconcerned with what is good for society as a whole. But, I feel that an artist that toils over something, especially if it is exceptional, is due compensation of some form and theft of their work is criminal. Just because you can do it doesn't mean you should. There are holes in SL that allow this to happen and can be plugged.
Linden Labs, I ask you to look more seriously at issues of theft for profit. Please find a cure. |

I do agree that Linden Labs needs to give sellers a better security. People are here to have fun yes, but there are others who are making some good money with their creations. They should be compensated for all their hard work and protected.
I totally agree with the idea that the stealers should be punished. They should not be rewarded in SL. I bump this thread as it is correct. SL has ways to take care of this, they should then. |

As a new person in Second Life I worry that someone can just come along and take my time and effort. This is not right and if there is a way to stop it... and from our discussion I believe there is; it should be the highest priority for Linden.
