Damn talk about thread necromancy. O.o

Last update before Kris posted was in May. I can understand reviving a thread thats only a day or two old, but 8 months!? I didn't notice the date until like page 3 as I read through.

The fact you went on to make a valid response and opinion to it proves that there is value to making people aware of prior discussions. And there is no rule that says you can't post to old threads. Despite what some self appointed forum cops might tell you ;)

Yes, bringing back this thread let me see the statement on scripting resource plans, and that is valuable since I had considered proposing such a thing myself in Hotline. Now I don't have to. Keeping threads around and even bringing them back from time to time is a valuable way of seeing how an issue continues or evolves within a community.

Lindens need to act against Griefer "alts"

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am the Manager of La Vie en Rose. Last night (4-27) during an event Blake Rockewell reacted to an attack on La Vie en Rose and myself. He used a script to stop a 'Griefer' who was setting off "Bombs" in La Vie en Rose night club. Prior to the attach there were 24 guests in the club. The attack knocked about half totally out of the sim. It knocked me out of SL and damaged my software to the point it was necessary to reinstall SL before I could return to the game.

Granted 2 wrongs don't make a right but had it not been for Blake's reaction others may have suffered similar software damage. The suspension of Blake is totally uncalled for and I both as manager and as a member request the suspension be rescinded immediately and Blakes privileges be reinstated forthwith!

I fully agree with the a ban on any attack scripts in community areas. Such scripts are disabled in Linden areas. It can be done. To ignore this will allow immature and vengeful members to abuse the majority. Failure to act on this matter is tantamount to offically condoning such aberrant behavior!

In addition the current policy of suspending a griefers avatar is a TOOTHLESS TIGER! Face it, no one would use thier primary Avatar to attack another. It is time Linden Labs got tough with these disruptive Children! The avatar that attacked the guests at La Vie en Rose was obviously an ''alt"! While the membership dated to nearly a year ago the profile was totally blank and had only 3 ratings! Credit card information can be easily traced by Linden Labs. When someone attacks an individual or an entity in game ALL AVATARS PAID FOR BY THAT CREDIT CARD SHOULD BE SUSPENDED! Perhaps if the morons who choose to act to disrupt our community are made to suffer REAL CONSEQUENCES instances such as this will be eliminated! And citizens like Blake, will not have to suffer a suspension for defending his friends!

...being knocked out of sl and damaged my software to the pont of having to reinstall SL....this raises some interesting question to me...since the sl software is on your desktop on your pc ..in reality this ass...ohh sorry..this griefer..has damaged software...property belonging to you that was located in your home and in effect has committed a single denial of service attack against you and/or anyone else he negatively affected by the bombing.....there are laws against vandalism and sounds to me like this avie has broken them....at what point does this fail to fall under the SL TOS agreement that we all signed when we joined SL and what point does this fall out of their responsibilty and/or right to regulate the consequences (punishment)of a griefer..it seems to me this area is VERY grey since he damaged not your avie or property IN Second Life but software sitting on YOUR pc and at what point and what damage do We have the right to our own personal legal remedies,,and if so..would sl ever cooperate...they obviously and rightly so are contacting law enforcement about the recent massive DOS attack and supplying them with the persons identity for criminal charges,,wonder where they would stand if a single person wanted to do the same........
these are just thoughts to ponder that came to me when reading this post ...

If you're serious about being sick of it, and serious about being willing to do something, the 'something' isn't that hard to do:

1) File a 'John Doe' petition in the correct jurisdiction of California to force LL to disclose the identification and address of the alleged griefer.

2) Contact the local DA and speak with them about the situation and your interest in pressing charges. Point out that seizure of the alleged griefer's computer systems will be key to proving the allegation.

3) File either a criminal action or civil action in the appropriate jurisdiction of the alleged griefer as recommended by the DA's office.

4) Have your day in court.

As long as you aren't trying to sue LL, you're ok. But understand that the minute you attempt to sue LL, existing precedent (ref: Blacksnow vs. Mythic) comes into effect and you will find yourself bounced into binding arbitration. You see, you HAVE no right to sue LL anymore. See your ToS for details.

We had an attack in The Forest similar to what happened at Trader1 Whiplash's La Vie en Rose night club. In our case one of our Rangers was knocked offline and had to reboot her computer several times before being able to log on. She was unable to get the name of the attacker, so we have to sit and wait until they come around again and hope that we can pounce fast enough to get their details and ban them before they inflict any serious damage.

Does anyone know of any tools that can be used to detect bullets and other high-velocity objects and reveal their 'owners'? Something like that would be an immense boon for us so that we can block out potential griefers.

However, since the opening of the floodgates with free accounts our ban list grows daily with the endless stream of 'shoot-teh-furry' nitwit griefers. Is there any point in banning them when all they need to do is register another free account to carry on with their griefing?
