Pity you didn't hang on, then.
But a collar is an indication of a submissive nature, and if you wear one you must expect people to think you are submissive.

actually no. i adore wearing collars and am not submissive. although many people meeting me assume i am, and not always due to any collars i might wear. :)

They're commonly called "chokers" and have been around since... well since jewelry and other neck ornamentation moved passed bones on strings, heh.

A real slave's collar was never anything pretty to look at, for sure, and the chain links it was attached to kinda made it's purpose quite obvious.

I frequently wear a collar (it was the first attachment I ever made in SL, so has nostalgic value) and it was only quite recently that the idea that somebody might think that I was a slave because of that was even mentioned - it would never have occurred to me without prompting.

I have to say that I'm not sure how I would react if some random putz did come up to me and attempt to assert ownership rights. I suspect it would begin with polite bafflement, and possibly move on to sarcasm.

What a strange first lesson to teach a child! The first lesson I taught mine was not to stick metal things in electric sockets.

Yeah, true. My first lesson as a CHILD was "don't bite the mailman". Or maybe it was "stop trying to get off your chain". I can't quite remember.

From: someone
I have to say, if I see someone wearing khaki and carrying a gun, I tend to assume they are a soldier. If I see someone dressed in blue with a round helmet on their head, I tend to assume they are a copper.

There are pieces of clothing *designed* to demonstrate someone's place, and one of them is the slave collar, or indeed, its equivalent, the wedding ring. The kind you describe as worn by a domme doesn't sound much like that.

I actually only described it's craftmanship, not the details.

It locked.
It had attachment points.
It was black leather and chrome.

Believe me, it looked like any other slave collar I've ever seen except for the level of craftmanship that was put into it.

We're in a lifestyle that caters to the fetishist. If I see someone at a munch dressed up in more than casual BDUs, or a police outfit, I tend to believe (if there are no other munch members in cuffs) that they're fetishists rather than the thing itself.

Better safe than sorry. :)

Whats worse, having someone call you girl once in awhile or having 5 to 10 guys a day think that you want to 'party' with them just because you're a female. I'm more insulted by people thinking I'm that easy then I would be by a Gorean guy saying girl.

Wow, that is an extreme even I've never seen. That has nothing to do with being Gorean, thats just general assholeness. And further proof that it's always the bad apples who stand out the most and make the rest of the bunch look rotten.

If anyone came into our club and treated anyone that way they would be publicly mocked and permanently banned. Their name would be known to our club members as a person to avoid and likely wind up being banned from a few other places.

One of the most important things our members have come to expect is that they will be treated with respect always while inside our sim. I think so far that reputation has helped us to attract only the right people most of the time. Every now and then someone comes along who can't or won't play nice but those people never stay long, they are weeded out fairly quickly.

Agreed, anyone entering MY home and behaving that way would also face ejection. Moreover, I would Warn friends in the Community to think twice before allowing such a person entry. That behavior is unacceptable in ANY venue but the most extreme.

I left click him and hit the "freeze" and then "freeze" again. I look at this worm for a few listening to his cursing and insults. I once again left click and "mute" him. Another left click and then hit the "eject". I then go about banning him from my land. I go about deleting his pose balls

Hum... while you had him frozen you should have dressed him up in a pink collar, pink tutu, fluffy pink cuffs and taken his photo. ;)

I like how you think Norman,, Like it a LOT. ;)

Selador, The woman, or man MAY be a Goth, or a Punk, or a Rivet head, or any Number of Lifestylers who wear Collars and are NOT in any way submissive. Your assumption is far too broad.

As for MY girls, Yes, they are slaves, Yes they wear Collars, But as i tell others, think of me as a Trainer of Tigers, Just because it is safe for me to Pat them, doesn't mean it is safe for EVERYONE. They will Purr for me, but likely as not, they would take smeone elses leg off. ;)

Hmmm, how would I do that? Does someone have clothing that is objects for this?

Seriously, is this not against the TOS and make me subject to discipline from the Lindens?

Hmmm interesting views on collars. I honestly never gave them much thought. I don't wear a collar, nothing scripted, no locks, etc, though I have worn a standard collar in the past.

My "collar" now if you can call it that is a silver necklace Jamie made for me with our initials entwined. It's a standard peice of jewelry. I view it the same way I view a wedding ring, as a symbol. Others who see it wouldn't know its significance without asking.

It sounds like collars fall under the same issue as everything else does. Every person is going to have a different opinion about them and the best thing to do if you're not sure is ask.

Sorry, out of those 5 to 10 guys today, at least 4 were alts of mine. :(

I think in addition to all the fine points made already is the strong gangsta undercurrent among some of the newer residents, which plays into the slave/sub/bitch behavioral issues. Many new folk in being exposed to the D/s, Gorean, Pack cultures here, draw correlation between the behaviors to the popular gansta genre of behaviors. With no real exposure - or bad tabloid/reality show, Jerry Springeresque exposure. That gets brought in here, where experimentation and fantasy realization is an acceptable norm. Thus a huge groundswell of co-opted behaviors that are universally offensive.

Why were you wearing a collar? If you wear a wedding ring, you must expect people to think you are married.

Mind you, not excusing the idiot's behaviour. If someone wears a collar it is a signal that they are *not* available. But a collar is an indication of a submissive nature, and if you wear one you must expect people to think you are submissive.

That doesn't seem hard to understand.

umm my CAT collar I wear with the lil heart tag with my name on it doesn't mean I'm a slave, it's a cutesy neko adornment.

I forgot the kitty collars! "Bad Kitty!" :p

Well, that's my point, a collar or choker is hardly any "evidence" that someone is a submissive, it's an ancient design of jewelry. As Angelique noted, people could wear them for a host of reasons or really none at all, they just look nice. Making assumptions based on wardrobe, unless it is so obvious (like, oh, locks and chains attached) isn't wise. Even then, they could just be making a fashion statement, heh, don't assume...

And even if they are, in fact, a sub, they aren't yours. I mean. Unless they are. But you would know that. So... whatever... can't we all get along?
