The Worst Thing I Have Ever Seen Ll Do.

The forums were for the most part seen by LL as a waste of time and resources. But if people start using LL blogs in the same manner as the forums then what has LL accomplished? I naturally expected a heavier hand in the blogs with moderation and less "holding our hands and walking on eggshells for us". I think we're going to have to get used to it; otherwise what was the point of getting rid of the forums?

As with most things involving LL, it comes down to lack of consistency. If they are going to remove Prokofy's post, fine. Not a fan myself. However, in light of the fact that Pathfinder then responds to Aaron's post, which says the same thing, it does not make sense unless it is specifically about punishing the individual. The removal of Cocoanut's post could arguably fall under off-topic, but the whole thing just looks bad. However, definitely not the worst thing I have seen LL do by far, this is pretty minor in the grand scheme of things.

But she's been banned from the forums for being obnoxious.

The lindens control both blog and forums.

Ergo, the ban would continue on both mediums.

You don't have to be banned explicitly on each medium.

Prokokfy has a comment near the bottom.

That could be said for many people already in SL. I can think of one in particular.

Nicely disguised personal attack. Do you know what I do in Second Life? Do you know what I contribute? Have you even made the effort to talk to me? No.

So what exactly do you do that's so wonderful for the entire community?

Well, that's the thing.

If they are going to just delete people's posts out of hand, when they feel like it (and other posts of Prok's have stood on the blogs, I am certain of it, because I remember him posting about keeping classifieds in Robin's blog after I posted about it), then that is of concern, isn't it?

I didn't suggest it was out of hand, or because they felt like it. I put forward some speculation on why they may have found fit to delete it, that weren't really 'because they felt like it' even though you may not agree with those as reasons.

From: Cocoanut Koala
Also, the post in question - the one that got deleted - had nothing in it at all that was any of those things you've alluded to in your first paragraph.

Which is exactly where the 'suppressing dissent' theory falls down. It wasn't particularly inflammatory, nor was it offensive, it was pretty tame. More critical posts by Prok have stood. Like you said, there must be something more to it. Sometimes the truth is quite mundane, and I suggested some quite mundane reasons.

From: Cocoanut Koala
One expects that in civilized discourse that one's posts will be taken at face value, not tossed out just because of the name attached!

You seeming to be viewing it from a forum-like perspective. It's not about discourse as such. As I said, that's why it sucks that that's all that there is, because it's a poor vehicle for forum-like discourse.

From: Cocoanut Koala
And if it was so irrelevant, why did Pathfinder take Prok's thoughts and run with them, as if they were his own? While covering up the tracks of who originally said them?

I don't know - I didn't read that far. It's real late here.

From: Cocoanut Koala
AND - covering up the fact that I objected to having my post removed.

As I said, perhaps they consider it inappropriate and/or irrelevant to do so, when it's not a forum.

From: Cocoanut Koala
There's something fundamentally wrong when a person can post a reasonable post - with nothing of danger in it at all - and that post gets obliterated, just . . . because they can. I call that abuse of power.

Fundamentally, I think it's kinda morally neutral. We have a company deciding what will and won't go on their blog. They're not a government, abuse of power doesn't really come into it for me.

From: Cocoanut Koala
"You probably could have made a comment on the importance of open dialog with LL, and why you believe deleting comments is bad, that criticism should be heard and acknowledged by SL, and had it remain"

Why don't you give that a try? If I try, I will just be deleted again, and you know it.

Won't SOMEONE give that a try?

I'll be happy to give it a try. I thought to do so already, if I can find a way to make it relevant somewhere on the blog. If it's not relevant, it will get deleted for a very mudane reason. It'll have to be after I've slept though, it's almost 6:30 here, I'll give it a go when I wake up. Not to prove you wrong, just to see - because I do have my concerns, despite my post - what they are willing to listen to.

(Not point-by-pointing you to argue with you, just to answer all your questions to me :) )

Nicely disguised personal attack.

It wasn't a personal attack against you, Lewis. It wasn't even a reference to you. Where were you mentioned, exactly?

Thank you, Cristiano!

Fade, I understand that it isn't the worst thing others have seen LL do. But it certainly is the worst to me, personally. I really didn't expect this of them, and I still believe there is more going on than we know about.

You run a disco. You like PG sims. You work for Stratics. You're a big fan of "I don't want to see people different than me".

That about sums it up in my eyes.

Oh, I dunno, he's only one of the best building designers in SL, as well as a really nice guy. Maybe if you ventured outside a bit more you'd see his work.

I recommend Cyrus's home in Stillman to start with.

Lewis, sometimes you say this to people that don't deserve such a question to be served to them, and it becomes both offensive and arrogant to anyone familiar with the person or their work.

His contribution to building in SL is enormous, and enough in itself, without even knowing him to know what sort of person Juro is. He's one of the outstanding builders that elevate it to art, to true architecture. No mean feat in SL, and the influence of his work and that of some others, elevates all of us, and pushes us to higher things.

I've never heard of the guy before or come across any of his work. Hence my genuine question of what does he do.

Not knowing about someone I have no particular need to know anything about is hardly a crime.

Extremely true. But where will the shareholders get this profit from if LL continues this route and loses a portion of the paying base?

So far nothing LL has done has affected SL's growth negatively:

MMOG Growth Chart

Get ready for a lot more of LL doing whatever the hell they want. Gird your loins, that sort of thing.
