I've done that myself a few times -- it's a hard habit to break. Just re-run the script and it should still interact with your prims.

1. There is undo in the build tools in SL, standard keyboard commands for Mac and Win.

2. Relaunching the script brings back the interface but it no longer recognizes prims that were there before the interface vanished.

OK

I was about to argue with you on that one Blue Tsuki, but I checked first. I could swear I recovered from that before, but you're right. Once you hit undo, the script shuts down and re-running it does nothing to recover the model. All the prims seem to be there, but if you edit one the changes don't hold. I guess the only defense is to save early and save often.

Sorry about that, too. Other than outright hacking the Blender interface, I couldn't think of a good fix for that. :o

I'm open to suggestions, though!

Is it possible to change the hot keys to those we are familiar with in SL for building? If so how?

Listen, bub, you have nothing to apologize for. This tool is sweet as it is and we're just talking about icing on the cake. Those of us who have used Blender for any significant length of time should be more than familiar with an environment lacking Undo. The solution? Save early and save often.

And keep a list of especially poetic expletives handy.

Prim Builder worked Once
01-12-2007 19:02
I downloaded the most recent version (2.42a) of Blender from the Blender Foundation site and both Prim Builder and the Importer from SourceForge. I was able to get Prim Builder to run and I build a two prim object which I saved using the Prim Builder Save button. I then closed Blender and tried to find/open the saved prims...

That's when I discovered tha nothing I tried seemed to get Blender/Prim Builder working again. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks.

That's bizarre. I'll assume this is a Windows build of Blender? Because I'm assuming that's the actually the new 2.43 release candidate, which has known to be very buggy in my experience with it. A different build of Blender should fix the problem.

Whoa. That's a weird one. I just popped it open in my x64 linux build of Blender (2.41) and it works just fine. The sort of behavior you're seeing appears to be some sort of syntax error or python error of some kind?

What version of Blender and distro is this? So I can try to reproduce the bug. :)

Great Piece of Work
01-17-2007 07:52
Hi Jeffrey --

Just to say this is amazing bit of work. Via your instructions I've
got your script working in blender...I'm anxious to try it out...but
right now SL is down for an upgrade.

The main thing is I'm very very impressed by this project.

It's brilliant. You've made the code easily available and are making a
lot of folks very happy. Now we have more options in terms of modeling
tools.

Thank you,
Infrared

With my attempts at using this I have 4 problems

1) If i try to set the thickness of my walls to 10mm the system reports that it is resetting the thickness to SL's minimm of 10mm and keeps on doing so ... I suspect that either that a <= 10mm where is should be < 10mm or a rounding error on a comparison (round the size to mm then report error if size < 9.5mm). Comparisons of floating point vars can always be a nightmare. To get around this I have to use 12mm walls (see later as to why I need to use 2mm incerments)

2) In order to get the parts to line up I need to be able to position the walls to a fineness of half their thickness (hence 2mm increments) so I need to position the walls to mms to get the correct alignment. How do I reduce the positional granularity from 10 cm to 1mm.

3) In a simelar vein I would also like to reduce the camera movement and rotation step size from the default levels. How can I do this?

4) On reloading the work in progress I can no longer see the prim details in the dialog box on the left of the screeen (running the script get it up but the details do not get filled in).

These may seem trivial (:D) but I can't seem to find out how to achive that.

#1 is very likely a bug and may be due to the way Blender is rounding your numbers. If you double-click any dialog box, it'll let you manually enter a number up to around six or eight decimal places. This should solve your problem and the one presented in #2.

Addressing #3, I believe you can specify this in the user preferences dialog of Blender. Don't hold me to that, though. :)

On #4, this should be due to the way I have a timer built in to register events, as Blender is missing a few hooks for this. Simply moving your cursor or clicking a prim should resolve this problem.

Hope that helps. :)

object sizes(scale)
01-26-2007 05:30
i am finding a difference in the object sizes that i dont see when building in sl. for an example, when i place a sphere in blender and compare it to a cylinder, the two do not match in size. but when i build the same two objects in sl the two are exactly the same size. hope im making sense, guess the bottom line is how do i fix it so the values for the objects match so they have the same scale?

Couldn't find object block?
01-29-2007 00:19
Hi,

I downloaded the stuff, and followed the instructions...
right now I have an object with both the block and rezzer scripts in it along with a notecard containing the info from the .blend file...
I renamed the defenition in the rezzer script to match the notecard...
I touch the object, and I get the "Couldn't find object block" error from SL

what am I doing wrong?

hope I understand what this tool does
01-29-2007 12:11
From my understanding (in theory), I can use this tool to build all of the shapes off line for a shoe and the import them into sl and apply all of the textures and then link them up to become a shoe. This toold does not allow me to apply specific textures to the shapes coming in.

I'll have to look into that. When I wrote it anyway, those differences were there. But considering the fact they changed around the rendering for "hex-a-spheres" at least five times now, it may be dated. ;)

Hi, not sure if this has been answered yet... but I followed the instructions step by step and when i drag the notecard into the builder object it says "STARTING" but then nothing happens? Any help would be appreciated!
