The New Blender 2.5 is what everyone has been asking for ... It's gorgeous ! The UI is finally something sane and some of the features they are adding to it have been long awaited.

http://www.graphicall.org/builds/ to get the latest builds
http://www.blender.org/development/release-logs/blender-250 for the official Blender Release Alpha

I was really hoping to find a way to convert my WaveFront format objects to either "Solid prim" or Series of Sculpties but this does not look like an option with any software. How disappointing this is that such a facility does not exist. I can export WaveFront Objects to virtually any format but OBJ is the most common anyways.

SL will get Mesh objects @ some point in time... Likely it will be a standard form of some sort like COLLADA base or WaveFront base but I would;t be holding my breath for that as it's a monumental task to accomplish, albeit long overdue.

I'll go look at Domino Designs.

Another promising option would be the solutions at LifeRain @ http://liferain.com/ but sadly, that is geared to 3DSmax which is for the Rich & Famous only... If only Santa had the budget for something like 3DS.

I think that automatic conversion of arbitrary meshes to the specific constraints of sculptmaps is simply not possible. There are some special cases though, which make it easier and even some cases like (blender-)NURBS make the conversion straight forward (primstar can bake sculptmaps from NURBS on the fly) . But arbitrary meshes typically need manual interaction to get good results. Of course blender has retopo and shrinkwrap to give you some help. But i always found it easier to remodel a sculptie manually than to rely on (half-)automated conversions.

Thanks for the kind words and discussion. It's much appreciated, especially when I'm working heavily on other things. :)

I'm still looking for someone to take over or fork the project into a robust toolset for Blender. If anyone's interested in folding their code into Prim.Blender, or just wants admin of the project, let me know. I'd be glad to pass the reigns forward.

In the meantime, Happy Non-Denominational Period of Winter Festivity! :D

thanks for the prim.blender, I found it really useful for building things :3

so, hmm, I just wondering... I open the save.prim file and see it is written with HTML format that records all the prims' parameters. So if it is able to read that HTML file from a script, and use those data to create prims in SL, would it be also possible to use a script to read an object's prim data, write it to a notecard, and then export it out from SL? =3 I don't expect that sculpture prims can be export in this manner, but maybe an object build by basic prims will work?

I thought you might already build something like that, but I search around the internet and couldn't find anything yet >w< so if you do have something like that, would you mind just telling me how and/or where to get it? thanks very much in advance! :3

A few viewers (like Meerkat) will export your creations to xml files which can then be reconstituted. Sculpts too.

To reiterate: those viewers backup to xml files and can then recreate objects from those same xml files.

PrimOven saves params to HTML that are reconstituted as sculpy textures.

yup I figure out that an few mins ago X3 but I still need a translator/converter to help me importing those backup XML files to prim.blender (that's what I want in the first place) X3 ... I just hope someone already did that before so that I don't need to work it out myself :X

thanks a lot BTW :3
