From: Thunderclap Morgridge but Wings3d can convert it to Obj and that can be converted to Prims. I've done it. It looks like crap but it can be done. Blender to me is crap. Its not just Blender, its any program with a non standard format. 3d is hard enough, Blender makes it almost impossible. But I digress. Converting a .3ds file to a sculpty is almost hopeless. If you want a Sculpty, you have to create something from scratch. The 'projection modifier' in Max9 might be a way to convert Stuff the 'easy' way... if you have Max9. You still have to understand how a Sculpty works, its limited and really hard to make a good one. About the 'non standard Format' - what are you talking about ? Almost every 3D Program has a non-standard File Format as its 'native' Format. If you have Trouble with Blenders User Interface (GUI), well, its made to be productive for serious Work, not a Toy. To learn blender, just RTFM and/or watch a few Blender learning Videos, they are free on the Blender Website, there is no Excuse for clicking around without knowing what you do and blaming the Software if you get no Results. Maya and Max look 'better'... but you still have to work hard to really use them. You can use Primitives there, somehow like in SL, but if you use these fine Programs only for this, you wasted a lot of Money.

From: Cindy Crabgrass Converting a .3ds file to a sculpty is almost hopeless. Agreed. From: Cindy Crabgrass If you have Trouble with Blenders User Interface (GUI), well, its made to be productive for serious Work, not a Toy. I have used Maya before and I got work out it the first day. I have yet to get it out of Blender with a print out of the manual. The designer admits he made the UI different because he believed it was more effective. Thats the height of Developer arrogance. The UI is one of the worst I have ever seen for an popular program. Maya and 3dmax are industry standard. Do they have as convoluted a UI as Blender? No Cindy. You know Blender, thats great. I am not attacking you or your ability to make it work. I am saying that for me who works in IT is it crap. But then I have the same opinion of Gimp but for different reasons. (I hate the lack of a master container/window).

It works great on a single Screen with limited Resolution. The only overlapping Window is the F12-Render Window. There is no 'Developer arrogance', if you know Blender's History, you know its based on a internal Program from NaN (Not a Number). About GIMP... the only Reason to use Photoshop is GIMPs Lack of color Separation for Professional Printing output. If you want a real Headache, try K-3D. Thats what i call a PITA.

There is no 'Developer arrogance', if you know Blender's History, you know its based on a internal Program from NaN (Not a Number). That is developer arrogance. Trust me, I see it every day. You make programs for others to use, at their level, not because you think different. Its a moot point anyway. I won't use blender if they paid me, and you love it. On to another topic, the obj to scultpie chewed up my teapot, have you figured out how to get it to convert non 1024 low poly meshes yet? It would be good to convert some of my older stuff. I get all these bad pixel errors which create a mesh that looks like modern art.

http://vlab.dk/SLPrimSplit.rarA small tool that will split the blender file into notecard size files. If you drag a file over it, it will split the file, and open each file in notepad for easy copy paste. 'Check SLPrimSplit /?' for more options

The newest version of Blender compiles with Python 2.5.x I just had to express my gratitude. I am amazed and jumpily excited about this tool. I just tried out in-world and had to contribute to the positive voices that lately seem to be evermore scarce (yea, I read all 21 pages before posting this). I use XP with Blender 2.44 and Python 2.51, SL client 1.18.1 (2) and no problems yet. Togehter with Blender's sculpt mapping power it will be my new best friend. (Blender is your friend, Blender does you good, Blender wants your happiness. [[hypnotic eyes]]) WELL DONE! =))))

I am very excited about this tool... am downloading python 2.51 as we speak to try and fix the problem mentioned earlier. The script doesn't work for me either, but someone said updating python to 2.51 makes it work.
I get very little time online these days, and quite a few hours in the office doing nothing sometimes. The office internet is too slow to connect to SL, so I've been eagerly awaiting this. If we could get a standalone version... especially with some kind of avatar shape exporter so that you could fit your build to your avatar, that would be wonderful.

OK!! YES!! The download of Python 2.51 worked! I am now an official offline builder!! Thanks soooo much! *hugs* Love all of you who made this possible!
Ps. Win XP, Blender 2.44, Python 2.51 EXCELLENT!
There are a few small bugs like one click on position sending the prim 100 meters or so in that direction. for sizing, XYZ have to be tapped multiple times to get it to work right, but it does work.
Still, a great program! I'm so happy to be able to build offline! Finally I can get some of my projects done! *grins*

I've only just started building in SL, but a feature I thought would be wonderful (if at all possible) is if you could have the same selection of shapes that are available with the prim selection board/rezzer (perhaps with a simple dropdown next to each basic prim shape?). I just can't imagine building without the preselected 30 to 40 shapes that are available with that board, it makes building so much easier. A great program that you have designed here, keep up the good work )

Ok this is quite frustrating.
Is there a clear tutorial for prim.blender that explains two things PLEASE.
#1How to IMPORT a SL made prim or linked prim into blender
#2 how to export a prim or linked prim from this script to SL.
And OH GOD please let it be in ENGLISH.
Becasue the only one I have found that is even close is in french.

Becasue the only one I have found that is even close is in french. 1) as far as i know, you cannot import from SL back to blender, that would cost alot of copy issues, since i can just buy an object and import it back to blender and i can have my own copy. 2) i assume you know how to run the script and make objects, simply click the "Save" button located in the lower left panel. Don't need to save with any file extension. Then open that file in a notepad or wordpad, you should see a complete XML. Copy that whole thing into a notecard in SL, notice you can import copy so much to a notecard, i usually do 1 notecard per 50-60prims. Once you have the notecard(s) just drag and drop each one to a offline builder importer that you obtain in-world, make sure you wait til the current one is "completed" before you drag the next notecard. hope that helps a bit. hope that helps a bit. Mobius I hate to sound like I am complaining. But its frustrating when someone releases a tool without instructions on how to use it. This happens all the time with blender python scripts and I just grit my teeth every time. Its like the programmer thinks that because he can use it that its use should be just obvious to everyone. Well HE/SHE WROTE THE THING so sure they know how to use it. Ok back to my main question what the heck is and "offline builder importer" is that a script, is that a place in world, is it a program you pick up in world, is it a user you meet in world what???

Hi All, Wonder if you could please advise. I have tried to download from both of these locations but both are now dead. Is there anywhere I can get the necessary files from? Many thanks in advance.
