Yeah, I used 2.4.4 originally, and that's where the error started...

nevermind, I figured it out!

This always happens... someone asks a question, they resolve the problem they post that they did and they don't say what the solution was.

In any case, I've been redoing all the steps in the instructions on this thread over and over again, installed Python 2.4, etc, I get xml in the Blender file, all scripts are in place and I still get the same errors like Itimar did: a bunch of Couldnt' Find Object before the script ends "successfully" after I drop the Sample_Prims notecard on the box.

This happens with both a file I create in Blender and the two examples for v1 and v2 Blender objects that were packaged with the importer.

I got the two LSL scripts from Soundforge. I went to the landmark mentioned here but the only thing I could find was a license and a instructions note, no scripts.

If anyone knows what the problem is I'd appreciate the help.

Not sure if this is the correct place to post this, but here goes!

Fresh install of Winxp Pro, fresh install of Blender, and Python 2.4. Blender loads up fine, but when I execute script I get this:

Compiled with Python version 2.4.
Checking for installed Python... got it!

I've tried reinstalling Python 2.4, I tried 2.5. I'm kinda stumped. Anyone have any ideas?

Hey guys I had this same problem. So I decided to see if I could track down an older Blender in case it was a compatibility problem with the newest Blender. Turns out it was.

So I installed 2.42a which was pretty near to the release of Prim-Builder 0.4 and the error went away (though I haven't done much with the tool yet). The readme for PB 0.4 mentions 2.42 as the latest it tried to use, so you might want to install Blender 2.42 rather than 2.42a like I did. Both of these can be found in the Blender 2.42 archive page here:

http://download.blender.org/release/Blender2.42/

Please respond on this thread if it helps you, too, so future visitors know that it worked.

Best of luck to you!

Loading prims failed: Missing > character
03-01-2007 11:52
Hello, I thought I would give offline building a try. Using the correct version of Python, using Blender 2.42, Blender opens just fine, no errors.

When i save the .blend file and open it in notepad, all i get is a bunch of jibberish. is that what its supposed to look like??

thanks!!

Oh yeah what does
Loading prims failed: Missing > character

means?

I knew nothing aobut Blender, and wasn't sure it would be something I could use on a Mac, but after Googling, I relaized it was available.

So, Blender is an open source cross platform 3D modeling app?
Do I understand correctly?

I was not optimistic when the top relevant link result had this quip as the sample text in the Google results:

"The bottom line is whatever effort you put into Blender, you'll get so much more from a commercial 3D app for that same effort."

Which seems to be taking one non-standard app, and making a filter so you can instead build in another non-standard app... but I'm going to do my best not to let that discourage me. I'm downloading it, and I will give it a whirl.

I applaud any effort to create a 3rd party SL builder app... that works with the same kind of interface as a professional modeling application. Namely, a multi-window interface with X, Y, and Z view, and proper alignment controls. I'm not looking for anything fancy, just the basics.

Prim.Blender is a great tool with big potential. I like it
I hope for the long lucky life of this project.
Very useful feature for future versions - automatic linking of prims, created in .PRIMS file. Unfortunately, today is hard manual procedure.
One more idea - allow links for each prim to texture, already existing in SL (of course, by name).
Great thanks to author!

Digg -- the website your Google search brought up -- is a collection of random personalities, many of whom demonstrate their refined intellect by offering up cynical comments dressed with clever wordplay and little actual experience or knowledge. I noticed that most of the Digg users who bothered to rate RiddickRom's comments (the fellow whom you quoted) marked them down.

The simple fact is that year-by-year, Blender is becoming a more capable modeling, animating, and editing environment for 3D stills and animation. It has most of the tools you'll find in very expensive applications, and deficiencies are addressed with every release. Unless you plan on having a career in 3D animation, it's foolish to spend a penny more than you must to work in 3D. It's true that Maya, Lightwave, 3DStudio, and Cinema4D do some things that Blender can't, but there aren't many differences, and not one that will make a difference in developing prims for use in Second Life.

Blender has a steep learning curve, the design mentality behind the interface is "one hand on the keyboard, and one on the mouse" with an emphasis on building and animating quickly, rather than intuitively. This means if you learn the shortcuts and keystrokes to the system, you'll find Blender has an astonishingly fast workflow. But again, this will mean little to you if you only use it for building with Second Life prims. There are plenty of communities that you can visit that will provide plenty of help with Blender. I recommend BlenderArtists.org as an excellent starting point.

Good luck!

Duplicate, Align, and Undo

First, Jeffrey thank you for building this great tool.

I've been working Prim.Blender but still couldn't figure out how to copy a prim without messing up the interface, snap them to rulers and align perfectly, and conduct undo function (I'm on Mac, so Command+Z?). Are these functions built in the Prim.Blender?

Importing failing??
03-15-2007 09:05
Have other folks noticed that in the last two days that imports are failing in-world?? Seems like the importer can no longer import objects farther than 10m from the importer objects. I noticed this and it was reported by at least on other person.

Can others verify? Apparently something has changed with the last server update??

 :(

Maybe this is the problem?

Yes the importer used the "WarpPos" trick to be able to move prims further then 10 meters.

Large builds will not be able to be imported until this is fixed.

Amazing!

I'm rather new to SL, but my roommate and I are both students of graphic design, and we've been bemoaning the lack of an online builder for a while now. This is such a major improvement.

Well I uninstalled the latest ver of Blender and installed the older ver 2.42 and now it works. Seems like the script only works on Blender ver 2.42 and Python 2.4

I got exactly the same error under Ubuntu 7.04 Beta with Blender 2.43. As the script starts (with ALT-P) Blender shows an error message, "Python script error, check console". After you press mouse button on the error message dialog Blender process starts to allocate memory aggressively until it crashes.

Just can't make it work on Mac!
04-13-2007 08:20
Hi everyone,
apparently, some of you managed to have the Blender/LSL script work on a Mac. How did you do??? Each time I try to execute the script, it just crashes, so I can't even get started.
I though installing MacPython 2.4 would help, but that does not seem to have produced anything. I do have the MacPython 2.4 Folder with its applications, but I can't find the actual Python file anywhere...
Sorry for being so dumb, and thanks in advance for any help!

Crash in Blender
04-15-2007 20:19
From: someone
Here is the info if you want to fix this yourself.

In Blender 2.43, with the script open (and before you execute it!), make the following changes:

1 - in the script window, Find (Crtl+Alt+F) "setEuler" (no quotes)
2 - add square brackets around the params in the function call. E.g.: from this "setEuler(...);" to "setEuler([...]);"
3 - goto step 1

I think there are 5-6 instances of setEuler() in the script. Each one needs to have the square brackets around the params. I did this and now it works fine.

I would then save the entire scene as a new .blend file that you can open later.

Note, again, this is ONLY FOR 2.43 (and maybe future versions of Blender) at least until the original script author has time to update.

I don't remember, where I found solution, but it works!
