It was originally said in the movie The Day the Earth Stood Still and as an obscure reference in Tron.

This is an Enterprise B model I made recently. Because of the size and the saucer shape, it's over 200 prims (that's my av behind the bridge). I'm not going to do any more work on it so I thought I'd go ahead and post pics. The biggest missing element is the flared bow (it's more like the Excelsior now).

My Doctor Who group had a TARDIS in Achlya, but for some reason it was taken down and the land was used for a store for the leader's other group.

For some reason a teleport ball had to be used (why not put the script in the door prim?) to get to the interior console skybox.

Needless to say the whole thing needed work. First I built a second TARDIS with more room inside, then I made a cool script for the console which would open/close the door or the video screen, and demat/remat (with sound effects). The screen would display the image based on "where" you were. Then I made a 10m diameter planetoid as a secondary "destination".

But of late, I've lost the will to compete with a store that, frankly, sells rather dull clocks. I've since sold my Achlya property. If I make another TARDIS it'll only be by request on some other land.

No, not scripted unfortunately. They don't even really open, I made it into two pieces and posed it. But I dropped a mod/copy version on your inventory, maybe you can get a vehicular type to script it for you.
*beg*

I can script like the very dickens, but I am the suck at building.

The third is my Hexadecimal from ReBoot avatar. I brought biscuits!
To do Hex right you'd need to make a set of prim face masks. You could script them but it'd be just as easy to drag them from your inventory as needed...

(though keeping them in your HUD with a script that actually changed the attachment point when you clicked on them would be great... you could have them jump to your hand, then llSay() to the one you're wearing to pop back to the HUD, then jump to the face...)

Laputa: Castle in the Sky counts as sci-fi, right? I made a little flitter based on the ones the pirates use in the movie. It actually flies, using Cubey's DIY helicopter script.
Oh man, I've been flying the Mehve (from Nausicaa, via Chage McCoy) all over, but I'd love these. Do you sell them anywhere?

The rebel fighters

Why almost everyone thinks that Star Wars fighters are only the X-Wing and the TIE Fighter?
Here is my little contribution to the Star Wars models.
All fighters are fully flyable and with my own combat system implemented. I didn't use CCC because it lacks functions that I needed (various weapons with diffrent damage, shields, systems integrity and so on).
I wanted to do a B-Wing but since these 3 don't sell despite very low (I think!) price I gave up. Other thing is that nothing sells nowdays thanks to LL messing up economy completly.
Sorry for the promo pics but I didn't have any other on my drive and SL is down right now.

Totally forgot to check who made it when I took the pic, but I found this cool tank from Stand Alone Complex in the sandbox a while back:

It doesn't look like much, not being very detailed and all, but since it's intended to actually fly... prim limit :P
Still needs a script and some decent textures though.

I've got a Recognizer that I started awhile back and haven't finished (needs better texture and the "chest" isn't finished).

I also plan to eventually make a Lightcycle, Tank, TARDIS, etc. Thought about doing Sark's carrier.

My most recent WIP is the Proxman K13 Shark Interceptor (yellow thing on the left). It's somewhat more complete than depicted here, and can be seen in Acontia. It's from a painting by Angus McKie that was used in the first of the Terran Trade Authority handbooks, which were printed around the time the original Star Wars came out.

The black ship to the right is an old design of mine, not a replica of anything. And the structure on the very far left is roughly inspired by Riven.

Yay, I was afraid nobody would recognize the reference. :)

The Shark and the Orion are sort-of my "Hello World" projects for 3d software (they were two of the earliest models I made on my own when I started learning Lightwave 3d, and it's become a minor tradition).

For reference for other folks, here is a much better Shark model, though it's still missing some fins on the tail. In-flight

The Orion looks something like this (but quite a bit better).

anyone wanna buy 6 or 7 sims and make Rama? Or how about the ship from Greg Bear's Eon? :D Sci fi lit is much more challenging than movies.

Rama in Lightwave 3d. Good luck making that in SL :)

For Eon, you mean the Thistledown, or the Way? (I just reread those books a week or so ago). (Yes, I know that comment was posted ages ago.)

Scale comparison of those the above, plus Babylon 5.

Not to mention something called the "Autocthonia Core", which interests me because the only Autocthonia I know appears in White Wolf's World of Darkness stuff. (Well, two versions; one in Mage, another in Exalted which is rather cooler.)

It is not really directly related, but the name was borrowed in part from the Mage version -- it predates Exalted by a couple of years.

It's a bit off-topic, but here's the history:

A long time ago, I was reading about Buckminster Fuller's ideas for lighter-than-air cities, and decided to make a model of one. As I played with the model, it started evolving in my mind into something else, ultimately becoming a setting called Eidolon, which was a sort of art deco utopian city on an alternate earth. Eidolon was occupied by four races, one of which consisted of artificially-created disembodied brains -- organic computers. (The entire setting was the sort of place the Sons of Ether would feel right at home.)

For fun, I imported Eidolon into a number of tabletop games (both as player and as GM). In one such, the GM sent us twenty years into the future of the game world (compared to when we originally arrived), and said that Eidolon had in the intervening time built four satellite cities to share the burden of defense, each associated with one of the four races. I was tasked with detailing them, since it was my setting. For the satellite built and occupied by the race of organic computers, I wanted a name that conveyed a place of relative logic and order (and tech). I knew the players were familiar with Mage, so it became Autochthonia Core (the "Core" part is a reference to something else entirely). Here is what it looked like.

Eventually, I completely remodelled Eidolon into something a bit more visually interesting (Mark II), and the satellite idea went away. (Eidolon is also the source of the black ship in my original post to this thread, btw.)

Oh, yes, White Wolf is the only source for the word "Autochthonia" that I know of personally (though I suspect there are older references given how it was originally tied to theories of a planet orbiting the sun exactly opposite the earth), but "autochthon" is a real word, and it's a short hop from there to a place name via the -ia suffix.

Argent - I dropped a cycle on your inventory. It's got the example motorcycle script in it at the moment. Personally I found it nearly impossible to steer, but it was a cheap thrill. At least it has sit target and camera set so you can sit it in it, even if you can't see out so good. If anyone else wants it for the time being it's sitting on my property for a buck at Ohno (84, 90). On the off chance that anyone wants a 233 prim Enterprise B model, I went ahead and stuck that in a box there too. When I have some time I should box up my Enterprise bridges.

I did Ringworld in the sandbox once. It's a bit hard to show in pictures.

That's quite cool. To drag this back to semi-on-topic, one of my long-term vaporware plans is to do up portions of Autocthonia/Alchemical Exalted avatars from the Autocthonia book for Exalted. (The "Church of the Engineer" over in Nexus Prime is along the lines, but a more magitech look...)

I wanted to put some of my Exalted material in SL (specifically, my favorite part of my Underworld variant: the chained moon), but I'd need to own an entire sim and figure out how to make a sphere many times larger than 10m in order to do it.
