How often do you see yourself using v-chat? A more detailed Poll

I don't remember saying it means 'nothing'. Polls on the forum just don't represent an accurate cross-section of SL residents in my opinion.

And even if it does the numbers above point to the conclusion I came to.

The margin of error being this is by no means a random group of people visiting the forums. I think there is merit in Ceera's (and a few others') thought that the forum crowd is in general more biased towards typing vs. voice.

I think people see what they want and come to their own conclusions based on that. I understand what you're saying and where you're going with this topic. But, do you find people's responses all that surprising? Of course they're going to be resisting anything regarding v-chat. All the posts I've ever seen on the forums about it have been from the same folks who are against it.

Seriously, the forums are a waste of time. It's fun to read every now and then, but the generally consensus is that people on the forums are nuts. Look on the bright side: You don't have to talk to any of these folks on v-chat.

Well I was trying to prove some points I had using the status quo's own logic and statistics and if you were actually interested in seeing another point of view you would have seen that...regardless of if you agreed.

That's the funny thing about a sense of humor...everyone thinks they have one but not everyone really has one!

You take yourself waaay too seriously which is probably why you don't like me. Most people with that problem end up not liking me.

Despite Alex's and a few others' outbursts I'm pretty happy with the results of this poll and the thread overall. It's good to see reasons for not using voice that don't include stereotyping others and/or making yourself out to be superior for making your choice!

You may just want to sit this one out. I'll break it down one last time, though...

a) I wasn't satisfied with the lack of options in the other poll...as were a fair amount of people...so I made another one to get a more accurate idea of what people on the forum think of the question

b) I don't think polls on the forum show a diverse cross-section of the general SL community. I think they show a diverse cross-section of the part of the SL community that frequents the forums.

c) the results so far prove the following...

1) there will be no epic wave of discrimination against those who choose not to use v-chat as the majority (if you don't agree with #b) of people will not be using it. If anything this coupled with the general attitude shown on the forums could possible end up with discrimination AGAINST voicers...but I find that unlikely as well.

2) v-chat will NOT crowd out typing as the primary form of communication in SL but will be treated as an extra option IN ADDITION TO regular typing. This would also preclude any possibility of massive discrimination against typers as just about everyone will still be a typer even if they use v-chat! Me included!!

Why are these ideas so radical that I would be constantly attacked over it? It's not like I'm upset since no arguement posed to me has been rational...in fact most of them have essentially been personal attacks...plus my feelings don't get hurt very easily.
