I can't think of 10, but there's been so many suggestions already:

Cubey Terra - many scripted items, including a heavily used freebie teleporter
Sarah Nerd - virtual-estate baron(ess?)
Ordinal Malaprop - steampunk gadgeteer and gunsmith of note and notoriety

As to the question of whether fame is of any merit, in SL or indeed RL: isn't that irrelevant? If you are aware of a name, especially someone you've never met, then surely they're famous, merit notwithstanding? The OP didn't say they had to have made some great contribution that made them important iRL, just that they were famous SL avatars.
