From: Carlos Cameron This thread is garbage.
These or whatever people anyone lists are famous only in the minds of whoever wrote it.
Go ask for their autographs then, go on. So? If you don't like it, maybe just skip it? Bah... Morwen.

"Famous" people in sl? You got to be kidding!
Must really be a slow day in these forums when something like this is brought up. Famous in their own minds maybe.

From: Object Pascale That was the difficult bit. Torley was famous before being a Linden, and makes such an impact that it just seems wrong not to put him in there. I allways thought Torley was a 'her' irl and not a 'him'. Learn something new every day.

Go ask for their autographs then, go on. Some achieve, fame, some seek fame , some just have it thrust upon them. And some become famous for not such good reason......

From: Porky Gorky I allways thought Torley was a 'her' irl and not a 'him'. Learn something new every day. His avatars are all characters containing aspects of, rather than reflecting the whole of, himself. Some can't really be said to be male or female either. Does a buggy driving watermelon have genitals? I'm not sure. From: Cole Riel "Famous" people in sl? You got to be kidding!
Must really be a slow day in these forums when something like this is brought up. Famous in their own minds maybe. Nonsense Cole. Believe it or not some people have done such an incredible amount for the Second Life community that they are tremendously well known (and therefore famous) in Second Life - and in some cases beyond.

It was a cute watermelon driving a buggy too. I've seen Torley on 2 occasions (in person as opposed to snapshots) - As a buggy driving melon, at the freebie bazaar, and on a tester account in a sandbox. On the other hand, he has a watermelon 'rose' in a spinning cases ala beauty and the beast, that I made

From: errUh Oh this entire thread is garbage. you cant be famous in a video game. people who think they are important need to visit real life and see the difference. its like being a soap opera star in south america and thinking anyone else in the world notices you. Since being famous literally just means "lots of people you don't know know you", then you're so wrong it hurts. Elika Tiramasu of ETD fame (I think I spelt her name right) Oh, and of course, Brenda, Ava, Mari, Chris and Zaphod

From: Eben Slade Two words: LEEEEEROY JENKINS!!!
Did you know that he was even featured in a question on Jeopardy.... If that's not fame, I don't know what is. The man's definitely a celebrity. That has become the warcry of thousands of WoW users allover the world.

For those enlightened individuals proposing that one cannot become famous in a video game, I offer Anshe Chung's cover of Business Week Magizine, a real life publication made of real paper and eveything.

I second the motion. She was even mentionned in my local paper in Liverpool, UK (real name as well as SL name, with real life pic too) as well as the national press. Anshe Chung is definitely the best example of an SL celebrity, as she has broken through into the real world.

10 isnt nearly enough I would start my list from the SL History page. In the Firsts Listing. http://www.slhistory.org/index.php/Firsts

I'd take those lists with a very large grain of salt. Many of them are incorrect.

I don't see why people object to this thread, I learn a lot from it! I am very bad at remembering names, it would be difficult for me to name just any ten names from SL-people without making spelling mistakes, so I am not making a list There are two I would like to see mentioned: Nathalia Zelkova Mystical Cookie

The UK's best selling daily rag. We should count our lucky stars she wasn't on page three. The subject needs better defining really. It's certainly possible to be famous *in* Second Life and not in the world at large. To say, "oh such and such isn't famous because most people IRL haven't heard of her" is like saying Shilpa Shetty isn't famous because most people outside of Bollywood have never heard of her (until Celebrity Big Brother in the UK earlier this year anyway). As I understand it, she's better known than (and therefore more famous than?) Julia Roberts, just by a completely different audience.

From: Conan Godwin Oh, and of course, Brenda, Ava, Mari, Chris and Zaphod /me giggles I know yer kiddin, but I dunno 'bout me bein on dis kinda list! I'm kinda a bit fish inna small pond, really. From: Banking Laws It was a cute watermelon driving a buggy too. I've seen Torley on 2 occasions (in person as opposed to snapshots) - As a buggy driving melon, at the freebie bazaar, and on a tester account in a sandbox. On the other hand, he has a watermelon 'rose' in a spinning cases ala beauty and the beast, that I made I've seen Torley a few times, in a number of different avvies. Woman Torley: http://www.sluniverse.com/pics/pic.aspx?id=82702Furry Torley: http://www.sluniverse.com/pics/pic.aspx?id=86819Watermelon buggy Torley: http://www.sluniverse.com/pics/pic.aspx?id=125126Bunny buggy: http://www.sluniverse.com/pics/pic.aspx?id=130321Somewhere I also have piccies of her as Soundwave (transformer) an her newer woman avvie. Collect the whole set! As to my list, in no order (and going with the no Linden rule) Aimee Weber Robin Sojourner Jopsy Pendragon The Sojourner Keith Extraordinaire Catherine Omega FlipperPA Peregrine Lumiere Noir Ansche Chung Cristiano Midnight I'm sure I'm forgetting some, too. I think there's plenty of others, an I'd suggest the below for lots of suitably famous (and infamour avvies). http://slhistory.org/index.php/PeopleMari

I also vote for Tracey Welles and Ishii Ishii (since it seems it is now acceptable to name names), whose fame, although new found and recent, will I'm sure live down the ages.

I saw an entire half an hour programme on Anshe on BBC News 24's Technology show about a year ago. It was on about 2am but still very interesting, featuring an interview with Anshe and comment from LL about SL and Anshe's achievments within the game. The BBC loves SL, or at least they did before the scandal and I have read lots of acticles on their website and seen a few other snipits on various shows. Also saw an interview with the guy who developed Tringo on the Technology Show, cant remember his name though. I think to be defined as famous to the general population (not just to you personally) the AV should have transended SL and be getting exposure in the real world media. That is true fame.

I have to say.... on the many many days of the grind.. having my Shillen Elder with me, especially dressed in Avadon armour, would ease the pain . In fact I died more often because I had my camera view looking backwards looking at her following very attentively behind me, only to run straight into a group of mobs lol.. Whoever made the Dark Elven female avatar and the avadon.... deserves a mention in any VR programme lol.. To the person that made the Dark Elven male armour.. I hope you are permanetly stuck in the tower of innsolence level 13 . I wonder if the Shillen Elder animations are portable into SL ?
