That was the difficult bit. Torley was famous before being a Linden, and makes such an impact that it just seems wrong not to put him in there.  I allways thought Torley was a 'her' irl and not a 'him'. Learn something new every day. _____________________

It was a cute watermelon driving a buggy too. I've seen Torley on 2 occasions (in person as opposed to snapshots) - As a buggy driving melon, at the freebie bazaar, and on a tester account in a sandbox. On the other hand, he has a watermelon 'rose' in a spinning cases ala beauty and the beast, that I made

this entire thread is garbage. you cant be famous in a video game. people who think they are important need to visit real life and see the difference. its like being a soap opera star in south america and thinking anyone else in the world notices you. Since being famous literally just means "lots of people you don't know know you", then you're so wrong it hurts. I second the motion. She was even mentionned in my local paper in Liverpool, UK (real name as well as SL name, with real life pic too) as well as the national press. Anshe Chung is definitely the best example of an SL celebrity, as she has broken through into the real world. _____________________

It's certainly possible to be famous *in* Second Life and not in the world at large. To say, "oh such and such isn't famous because most people IRL haven't heard of her" is like saying Shilpa Shetty isn't famous because most people outside of Bollywood have never heard of her (until Celebrity Big Brother in the UK earlier this year anyway). As I understand it, she's better known than (and therefore more famous than?) Julia Roberts, just by a completely different audience. |

There was an article about her on page five of The Sun last year too. The UK's best selling daily rag. We should count our lucky stars she wasn't on page three. I saw an entire half an hour programme on Anshe on BBC News 24's Technology show about a year ago. It was on about 2am but still very interesting, featuring an interview with Anshe and comment from LL about SL and Anshe's achievments within the game. The BBC loves SL, or at least they did before the scandal and I have read lots of acticles on their website and seen a few other snipits on various shows. Also saw an interview with the guy who developed Tringo on the Technology Show, cant remember his name though. I think to be defined as famous to the general population (not just to you personally) the AV should have transended SL and be getting exposure in the real world media. That is true fame. _____________________
