Anshe's gotta be #1. She's not just SL anymore....

Let me add... maybe not the most famous, but certainly the most ubiquitous: Chrischun Fassbinder.

This thread is garbage.

These or whatever people anyone lists are famous only in the minds of whoever wrote it.

Go ask for their autographs then, go on.

if the question had been "who is the most helpful or who is the kindest or who is the most talented" i doubt people would be offended. But youre basically running a popularity contest which btw consists of people who wouldnt even be known in this world if it wasnt for serious sucking up skills or manipulations to begin with. Dont lie Dont even try to argue with me. You think this is my first account? lmao i purposefully alted out several times just so people would leave me alone. Unlike some people whose only taste of popularity can be obtained from behind a monitor, i have absolutely zero desire to be famous. You are pixel pushing nerds in an online world. Do not delude yourselves. Seriously cheers to anyone of substance who offers anything of real value here. But celebrity? no.

For those enlightened individuals proposing that one cannot become famous in a video game, I offer Anshe Chung's cover of Business Week Magizine, a real life publication made of real paper and eveything.

Couldnt we add Phil R. becoming famous BECUASE of a video game.

Sequined codpiece and everything.

I don't see why people object to this thread, I learn a lot from it!

I am very bad at remembering names, it would be difficult for me to name just any ten names from SL-people without making spelling mistakes, so I am not making a list :)

There are two I would like to see mentioned:
Nathalia Zelkova
Mystical Cookie

Maybe some resent the fact they arent "famous"

when i first met Philip Linden, i wondered why he had a stained glass window on his crotch, but felt it would be rude to ask.

Cheers then to the people that run Second Life Relay for Life. Do you know how much they raise to help real life victims of cancer?

Mock that I dare you!

this entire thread is garbage. you cant be famous in a video game. people who think they are important need to visit real life and see the difference. its like being a soap opera star in south america and thinking anyone else in the world notices you.

Famous is also expressed as Well known. Of course you can be famous in a video game, You have obviously heard a great deal on Anshe chung for example, as have i, as have others, mention only her first name, and people know exactly to whom you refer. The same can be said for Prokofy Neva. Simply say the name Prok, and people have instant recognition.
I myself attianed a certain noteriety under another Name, I had people from far and wide contacting me because they had read something i wrote, or heard of my reputation.

Your problem is you equate fame with importance. Not so, there are some truely insignifigant people who have Fame beyond all mortal reason ~Cough that sounds suspiciously like "Paris Hilton"~ Fame is simply the measure on How well known you are to your peers, and those outside your normal Circle of friends and associates.

God people, why do you have to take everything so seriously. Clearly the world of Second Life is massive, and there is a high percentage of role-play involved--can't someone bring up a topic like this without trolls coming along and bashing it?

The topic is for fun, simple as that. IN THE VIRTUAL REALITY OF SECOND LIFE of course there are famous and infamous people. Some of those people even break out of the virtual box, and are famous in real life too--a few Lindens take this label.

How could you get mad at a post like this? I don't get some people...just pure negativity...you guys need to wake up...open your eyes.

maybe you are right - i just dont like when people act self important like they are impressing someone Im not impressed so i guess that means im negative or maybe my standards are a little higher. And i probably wouldnt have a knee jerk reaction if people spent less time patting themselves on the back over what amounts to nothing. Or maybe my attitude would be different if i didnt witness so much backstabbing, selfish, slanderous behavior from the very people that are being "celebrated" whatever im just a troll right? Because im not buying it that makes me a troll i guess

if people are gonna seriously contemplate the concept of sl celebrity then im gonna seriously debate the merit. You cant have it both ways. If you are roleplaying and having fun then i am too. it doesnt make my point any less valid

surprised this thread is still open, being it is going against the rules of naming other ppl (I guess it is ok to name them, as long as you are not naming them in a negative way LOL)

anywho, most famous for me, would be.....me and my alts, those are the ones I know best
(well at least the Rhaorth me LOL) I tend to forget my alts names now and again

now what would be interesting would be to see who the lindens would name as the most unforgetable avatars they know (the ones whose names stick with them)

oh well... back to the your regularly scheduled postings

PS I will not name other ppl cuz I would hate to not mention some friends and then have them say... what you do not think I am famous, or I do not stick out in your mind?..

safer this way hehe

No, Not a Troll, Merely honest, if a bit emotional about it. Unfortunately, as they say, Fame is a double edged Sword. If has Good and bad points for those who have it, as well as those who observe it. Look at the news today, and you will definately see people who are Famous for being Petty, mean spirited, irresponsible Arrogant (There's that cough again) Yes, some famous people do begin to believe thier own press, and act as though they are Cut from a Finer cloth, But in the end thier self same fame Puts thier behaviour under a Very focused Microscope, and thier every Flaw is as widely reported as thier every virtue (If not moreso, people Love a Good scandal).

Let's do make sure and note the distinction between being famous (I'm not) and being a forum motormouth (I am). :D

From: Conan Godwin
Since being famous literally just means "lots of people you don't know know you", then you're so wrong it hurts.

Elika Tiramasu of ETD fame (I think I spelt her name right)

Oh, and of course, Brenda, Ava, Mari, Chris and Zaphod ;)

Just saw this thread - well said Zaphod!

For any particular thing that I do, generally someone else does it more or better. I just go on about it in forums, whereas many others stay silent.

Honoured that I'd get a mention, but really, I'm just a chatterbox.

I'd like to add Kermitt Quirk and Dominus Skye for their great games.
Yadni Monde for the junkyard.
The creators of Svarga and the Lost Gardens of Apollo - if you don't know, you need to check them out as soon as possible.
The creator of the Caves of Rua (I hope I got the name right), especially the Deepspace part. Every time I show that to someone their first reaction is "Wowwwwwwwwwww!!!".
The creator of the Babbler translator tool.

I wish I could remember all the names to give people proper credit.

If we're allowed to name names and include the infamous with the famous, there's always SL's most famous thief, Landbaron Merlin.

Wazzon Television, also for the name!
I would also like to submit a vote for SL's greatest real-estate entrepeneur Landbaron Merlin.
