Mickey, I would have thought by now that you would have realised that you don't understand what I post and/or you can't express anything sensible in response, so you are wasting everyone's time.

Pep (Did I say I had "all my treasures in hand"? Try reading my post again. )

You didn't catch my point, but pardon...thought I spotted a moment of lucidness in you....but I was mistaken. Carry on.

So I then drew in the allusion to the sleeping dictionary of teh 19thC colonial administrator and soldiers.

Check out George Macdonald Frasers wonderful series of books "Flashman" - you'll see what I mean.
I loved those books! \(^_^)/

And since I'm here, I might as well put in my two cents' worth...

I think it's just fine that some people want to share so much about themselves, and I think it's also fine not to do so. As has been pointed out, some of us are introverts and some extroverts; that alone can be useful information when interacting with people.

If some people choose not to talk to me because of what is (or is not) in my profile, I consider it a good thing. It means that my profile is doing its job perfectly by screening out those with whom I wouldn't get along well.

*** I will now extend that particular admonition to myself because it SO bugs me that people put RL photos in their RL tabs...that is so face book/my space. UGH. I don't want to know what you look like in RL! But I'm an immersionist...so there ya go. Shame on me. *slaps own hand* :p

Oh.

Since my 2nd week in SL i guess, i have had a RL pic in my profile. Sometimes i update it with the holiday, other times i update it weekly. I have thought removing it at times but i don't think it matters anymore.

Write it down here and we'll be judge and jury and executioner for you. We'll correct your mistakes and keep your nose to the grindstone until we are satisfied with what you have done.

No thanks. It's mine and I will decide what is or isn't in it.

I can completely understand why some people decide not to put things about themselves in their profile. Some people like to give out this information on a one-to-one basis rather than broadcasting it to a wider audience of whoever happens to be scanning profiles in search.

Even more so when denizens of at least one other SL forum habitually post details from profiles in order to ridicule them publicly for the amusement of the others there.

People who put too much store by what is in or not in a person's profile really need to get a better perspective on things. In my opinion.

It might be valid to argue that repeat posters on Rez Ans. take profiling to the "nth degree". We corroborate our profile persona with our forum statements and in the process invest our avatars with our realities and vice versa. We straddle the bridge between reality and secondlife. Metaversed citizens.

Others of us are just lazy and haven't looked at our profiles since 2006.

Except you don't really do you? I know I have seen you and other people who consider SL as an extension of their RL selves, often say something to the effect of "I am much different inworld" or others say it about them.
I have actually come to regard most things you say as very unreliable and untrustworthy anyway as you seem to say one thing and do another most often.

Then I am human. But definitely NOT untrustworthy. In real I am a woman of my bond - I have to be. In sl I support and do NOT betray - if I have lovers (and I do) it is because my partner allows me to for private reasons. Unreliable? Not when it comes to my career. In sl? Only when rl beckons in any way.
I am human. Not avatar.

I thought you were supposed to be the same out there as in here? I thought you invested your persona in your avatar and had straddled the metaversal gap or whatever? I thought that was the point?

Speaking for myself, I am a little bit different in-world than on the forums; I will generally not debate someone on a person-to-person basis and avoid conflict wherever possible. That is very much the RL me. But here in the forums you get the "writer me." So I might come across as more "head-on" here and I have also caught myself ranting about things that upset me (which itself upsets me...lol). I can't speak for Jig, but that's me :D

I just had to pop back into this thread and say that I think this is definitely probably an introvert/extrovert thing. Introverts probably feel a little more reassured by knowing something about the other person before fully engaging in conversation. A few of the extroverts I know are so friendly that they talk to just about everyone they encounter (which I do find charming and sometimes try to emulate, only somewhat successfully).

Perhaps subject matter is part of it as well... I don't like to talk about superficial things very much and thus I am not the best conversationalist with absolute strangers.

As an introvert. I agree with this.

I'm not an introvert or an extrovert. I'm more a sidewaysvert.

As a per-vert I'm far too busy camming underneath their skirt to bother looking at their profile.
