From: GreenGate Widdershinslol... of course not... not so long ago it used to be a great place... great people... but something changed, and I'm tired of getting preached at from over the pond, telling me what should i do and what i shouldn't do. I guess that's why this thing made me so angry....[/QUOTE

My point is... perhaps minding your own business might relieve you of your pain.

After all you are not the one living in the belly of the beast, are you?

Ignorance is bliss.

Well, actually I do live in the belly of the beast; or at least I used to. I now live in the belly of the beast's best friend.

And thinking doesn't cause me any pain at all.

So does anyone know if they're actually going throughout the grid and systematically just deleting everything gambling related and handing out warnings and bans? Or is this a "Report Broadly Gambling material" type situation left to snitches?

I know what I read in the FAQ:

"6. How will you enforce this measure? How can you detect these games?

Our staff will review, investigate and respond to appropriate notices. We may retain additional staff or services to conduct this activity. When we discover objects or games within Second Life that meet the policy’s definition, we will remove them from Second Life."

That sound like they are not going to do anything proactive about it. People will have to notify them or if they stumble accross it themselves in their travails they will take action.

You should love the civil and freedom-loving option to NOT HAVE TO PLAY IF YOU DON'T LIKE THE RULES. Curb your addiction. It's just a game inside a game.

All these people saying that the only reason they play SL is to gamble... good grief, get some imagination people; there are millions of things you can do here that are far more entertaining.

/me smells bribes and extortion coming on!

Of course they'll have to do it in voice chat where the conversation's not recorded!

But seriously, that kinda makes sense and should actually be a relief to the casino owners. It at least gives them a day or so to get rid of their stuff.

I also don't forsee a moral crusade of misguided idealogues forming around this like the ageplay issue.

Maybe if people put up "no children were harmed in the creation of this slot machine" signs up then they'd be alright! ;)

and when I thought that the preaching was over....

I wonder... I'f it is only a game, why aren't I allowed to play it? is it bad for me? is it sinful? is it "imoral"?

You gotta control that knee-jerk reaction of yours. It is inappropriate in most places outside a physician's office.

Pot, meet kettle.

Come off it Green, you talk about us across the pond. so you are British right? Well when you regain your right of free speech, your right of self defense, when you cease being a subject of the queen and become a free citizen...........well maybe then you can lecture us about the rights of free men and women.

Actually, I think they had the first casino back in the day...like 03-04 or something.

If you go through the archives the first casino is within a month of the first Gay Bar - both in mid 2003.

The first casino complaints were soon after - evidently one of the competitor to the first casino owners had no money in his account to pay the winners ...

Is it only provided on SL? Is it impossible to find gambling available elsewhere?

You're allowed to play it, dumb ass, LL just chooses not to be a platform for that instead of having to get licensing and change their business model to support something that only a fraction of the population use...just like WoW chooses not to allow user-created content because it doesn't fit their system without a major overhaul.

Why don't you cry to Blizzard about how they're forcing their morals on you with your inability to be naked (without a hack so I hear)?

You're just looking for something to be angry about without knowing what you're talking about. I'm done witcha!

Happen to be aware of "Ziggy Hicks" and the Gold Rush casinos. Visited all 7 sites this morning. Every one of them was no longer a casino, but a greenfield property. Not one of them was for sale. Yet. Hedging his bets?

Gold Rush is one of the biggeswt if not the biggest casino operators and reputedly among hte most successful, FWIW.

lol... I'm Duch... Gay and Pagan.... I live in a country that is better characterized as "liberal" (in the European sense of the word)... and yes, we have a Queen as head of state and she does a great job... but when it comes to that subject, I'm not sure you would want to open that can of worms given the curent situation overthere.

Someone mentioned this earlier as well.

Did Linden Labs purge the entire property?

Im a bit confused on why the buildigns are gone.

Is the land still in the possesion of the original owners? Or was it seized.

I would have a major objection to Linden Labs simply ripping up entire builds rather than gambling tables to enforce their ban.

What exactly is the "Current situation" over here?

I think a lot of people have lost perspective on how the world works and has worked since the Cold War.

We have to remember that there are ideologues (on both sides of the political spectrum, but these days especially the left) who never see or read anything that does not feed into and add to their ideologically slanted imaginings. It's a good question, Colette. Can't help wondering myself how far from reality our left-wing Euro friends have drifted, compared to our left-wing US friends...I suspect quite far.

The "wars" in Iraq and Afghanistan wouldnt even have been footnotes under the imperialistic administrations of Europe 100 years ago.

100 years ago MUCH of the "third world" was dominated and under the direct colonial control of Europeans.

Its only the incredible advances in technology that make things seem out of proportion to how buisness has been done for a long time.

Even your own country has its history of controling others.

By contrast the war in Iraq which is done with the intention of giving their country back to them is quite a bit different than the Imperialism of the past.

While Im not really a supportor of the Iraq war, I find it amazing people lose perspective on how wars have worked throughout history.

You are still a subject of the Queen. I am a free man. Big difference.

.... What happened to the First Nations?

ok this is getting WAY off topic.... before I finish. to those who so easily pigeonholed me as left wing, two coments:

1) my instinct is to always vote right of center. I have my reasons
2) those who don't agree with you on issues, don't own a gun and don't belong to the Republican party, aren't automaticaly left wing...

Not owning a gun is your choice, you choose to be a victim and a subject. I choose to live in a place where I can own any small arm I want. I hate to tell you, but the current Republican party is left wing in the American sense.
