Hello... I haven't been aware of this DSN. Is there a link that explains it and how I can sign up as a merchant to it?

you will only every get one item from each designer too so it doesnt get annoying with stuff from people you arent interested in I actually did get two different products from the same designer. I can't recall now if they were in different categories...that was probably it. I ditched both so I can't go back and check, but the merchant's packaging was distinctive which is why I remember that. _____________________

I have two things in also - lashes and a decor thing.
~~~ OK- so, I want to put an advert in SLU - but am so sucking- yet again- and making these darn things! It's not the composition that has me stuck this time- but the end result seems all blutty yucky. What I have been doing to now, is taking the adverts i have doen, putting three or four in a line, adding the logo part and making it a strip then fitting it to the dimensions reuqired - 768 x 90 i believe. The results are less than stellar ![]() Help. TIA _____________________
Also you can use the sharpen option in Gimp which will help some with making things look more crisp and clear _____________________
Malls are notorious in SL as rent today and they're gone tomorrow, money sinks. If anyone makes money with a Mall it's the mall owner, if they're lucky (Generally Speaking).
Consider, getting your own parcel and promoting yourself and your own place or consider moving to a private estate or sim where there's an actual theme and you're not just surrounded by a haphazard montage of reseller junk and noob orgy kits. _____________________
Hi Tormented- thanks for the input and welcome. If you read back a bit you will find that mostly it is agreed that the best bet is to have your own space but that as adverts, Malls work out sometimes - myself personally, i have had the good fortune of having friends that have given me space on a sometimes limited sometimes open time frame. As an adjucnt to my own space it has been helpful.
I rent in three places- only one of those have i made an independednt sale - not enough to warrant further rent when the time is up but was a good experiment in each instant. You are correct that one's best effort is spent in ur own space but ocassionally the mall owners do have ways to promote your own specific business in such a wa that u can get seen. For while i had a space in a mall that the owner let me carve a space and claim as mine and so i was able to advert it. I made many sales that way. When he changed his model and went adult club- i no longer could advert my business nor did i want to be associated with a purely adult place so i left. _____________________
Excellent new free product from the DSN team: the DSN Visitor Counter. All vendors signed up to DSN should have got this (and it'll go into the same package that is bought in future by vendors). I only wish this had been available when I first joined up, some 2241 deliveries ago!
Once a designer places it on their property (preferably, right next to where the landmark that they have been giving out points to — you’re free to place as many visitor counters as you need to cover all landmarks and the entirety of your shopping space) it will keep track of visitors, and visitors that have received your sample product(s) will be marked in the transaction record list in the designer web interface and counted on the main designer statistics page. There is a separate page in there that will sort the visitors by the sample they have received and compute an effectiveness rate per sample. Visitors will only be counted once, and the date of their first visit will replace the date of the sample sending in the records, so you will know for sure just how many of your samples resulted in a shop visit. Visitor counters owned by you will only register avatars who have received a sample from you, so don’t be afraid to overlap your neighbours a bit. That should give you a clear idea of just how effective your advertising through DSN was. _____________________
I have been considering advertising banners @ SLU so decided to take a look at what Xstreet had to offer... Price wise 100,000 seemed reasonable trial... but it ha some rather questionable reviews... comments?
SLU runs for a month regardless. The impressions on Xstreet run at 10,000 umpressions... ie the ad is seen by people 10,000 times... that could be people like me who leave Xstreet running alllllll day on a webpage in the background. It seems the 10,000 impressions are usually used within 24 to 78 hours. Thts not a lot of bang for your buck. SLU gives you a months worth of ads and gives you around 20,000 people seeing your ad. Not peopel seeing it 20,000 times.... but 20,000 DIFFERENT people seeing it. Id say that is pretty good. Honestly if i had 5,000L to spend on advertising i would be finding various rental places around the grid. some ofthe more expensive well known shopping areas and putting in a rental for a few weeks. I think you would get a better result _____________________
That was my feeling too after reading those comments- so my hard earned dollars went to Cristiano - look for me there - Yeah, the XStreet ones looke ludicrous when u take into account the period vs the times -I do buy the Homepage adverts - that pays off I think, in exposure if not necessarily in sales on XStreet itself.
This is what I ended up running in SLU:
![]() ![]() I had shot the pix but they were horribly pixelated - I had missed some step in between I guess because it took a professional to get it right for me. She also did the greyscale of it and added the higlight colors. If anyone needs this service let me know to send her name on- she does very nice work, as you can see. Regarding the advert in SLU - anyone know if this is like XStreet's HomePage Featured where you your self never see it but others do? I am wondering if I will also randomly find my advert- I have not as yet then again I haven't camped out on SLU. _____________________
yay it took a new computer but I'm finally able to log onto SL and manage to actually spend some time doing things before logging off in frustration! In the few weeks I've been unable to be on SL I started playin WoW again for something to do (WoW runs fine on the comp that can't run SL go figure) so I'm gonna probably be backing off SL a bit, to be honest I've been getting pretty bored with it recently altho a lot of that might have been frustration at not really being able to do much.
Anyhow, I had just finished a rebuild and a move before I threw in the towel, if anyone wants to go check out the new setup, the slurl is in my sig (when I say moved, I mean changed altitude, still on the same parcel). This time I put the biker stuff in it's own shop (set up to resemble a garage sort of) and the bargain store in its own separate building as well. Let me know what you think! _____________________
Oh ill go have a peek a bit later on Ral ![]() Ama thank you for the heads up on the banner maker, she is great I actually have her doing four different graphics for me (SLU has the ability to offer mutlie ads for the same price, so they come up at random). I decied to split them up a bit to have more impact. I am having a female clothing one, a male clothing an accessories one and a 4th one which is a side banner with all three elements of my store. She actually took the time to do me a mock up before she started and we agreed on the price which was great becuase she didnt have any other advertisement of product ads to show me other than yours Ama, so I really appreaciated the time she put into it I cant wait to see the finished product, ill show them herewhen im done _____________________
I've been feeling pretty much the same thing and debating on if I want to spend the money for a month of EQ and do some "root-rotting" of baddies. (I also LOVE the Earthquake spell that makes everything in the area fall over dead.) Also purchased the 3rd release of Creatures (the first game that addressed Artificial Intelligence and could be where the designers of Sion Chickens got their idea). I LOVED playing Creatures years ago and was really bummed when I discovered it didn't run on XP. I go into SL lately and pretty much just stare at the screen. I did complete The Cinderella Lost Slipper Hunt. That was fun and the first looooooong hunt in which I'd ever participated. I mainly did it to get a "feel" for where to hide the hunt item, etc. as in September my shop is "supposed" to be in one...but try as I might, I just can't get myself excited about creating anymore. I'm moving more toward areas where my teaching background and skills can be utilized in SL, so perhaps I should ditch the shop idea, list products on XStreet when I get a creating notion and concentrate on the teaching. _____________________
I experienced both sides of the store-owners' coin last night, and both of them came with lousy timing! First, a sweet little note was dropped on me out of the blue: a thank-you for my DSN sample, which contained some very nice words about it and a promise to visit our mall and recommend my work to friends. I sent her an IM to thank her for her kind words, and we had a short, but pleasant conversation. That was followed in short order by a, "I bought your [item x] a couple of weeks ago and rezzed it in a sandbox and wtf?" kind of IM.
Turns out the purchaser didn't know how to get in, so I sent her my standard 'how to get into your enclosed skybox' notecard and asked her where she bought the item, so I could check all of my sales boards in that location to make sure the notecard is in them (apparently it was missing from the folder she received, so I need to rectify that). She came back with a couple more queries, all of which I dealt with as pleasantly as I could. The amusing thing about all of this (apart from the fact that it would have been nice to have the complimentary conversation after the 'wtf' one, if only for the sake of my fragile creative ego ![]() Only in SL can you be managing three conversations at once, and terrified that you'll accidentally say something very naughty to a random store customer ![]() _____________________
I only slipped up once and then it was something relatively mild like "/me caresses your hair." but you should have heard the hoots and hollers over that one. ![]() Well done on the juggling act, Skell. ![]() _____________________
