yay it took a new computer but I'm finally able to log onto SL and manage to actually spend some time doing things before logging off in frustration! In the few weeks I've been unable to be on SL I started playin WoW again for something to do (WoW runs fine on the comp that can't run SL go figure) so I'm gonna probably be backing off SL a bit, to be honest I've been getting pretty bored with it recently altho a lot of that might have been frustration at not really being able to do much.

Anyhow, I had just finished a rebuild and a move before I threw in the towel, if anyone wants to go check out the new setup, the slurl is in my sig (when I say moved, I mean changed altitude, still on the same parcel). This time I put the biker stuff in it's own shop (set up to resemble a garage sort of) and the bargain store in its own separate building as well. Let me know what you think!

I popped over to your place to check it out and liked it .I looked around and your stuff is stylish.Whilst there I took a pic of "the girl with the pearl earring" one of my favourite paintings.

I like it so much I decided to add my own twist I call it "the girl with the pearl nose ring"
I never sold one ,I wonder why? LOL

@ Czari - If only our conversation was as innocent as caressing hair; I wouldn't have been half as worried!

@ Blot - At least it wasn't a pearl necklace ;)

Ah yes. 'Girl with a Silk Purse'. One of Vermeer's lesser-known works ;)

/me giggles

My partnerand i normally do naughty thigns while juggling her DJing or me working... it has actually become somewhat of a sport.

I think most of our regulars know it goes on and a few can often guess by us chatting less in open chat.

Actually voicing it so much esier for these things and less chance of an opp in open chat O.o though we use both. Luckily we havent said anything naughty in the wong box yet.

between Skell and Blot I'm lmao over here :)

(let's note for the sake of the general public that the painting is a decoration and not for sale in the shop)

I'm glad you liked it, if you knew how bad I was lagging during the whole build....I came real close to just quitting SL altogether.

And Czari, I know...I log on to SL, look around my workshop, say hi to a couple people, and log off. I don't even open the dsn packages anymore, they are just piling up in my inventory.

Same here with the DSN items. I finally unsubscribed from all of them at least until I unpack what I already have piled up.

Wanted to share a thought i had today for adverts in my blog and I was thinking also wd add the slurl to a notecard to send to my group as part of the weekly recap of releases. I did a little slideshow and posted it to youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JirOr2Qkh2o
Ideally, this could be embedded in the New Product advert section, but I don't thnk the bb code used not used etc will allow it. I did embed it in SLContent Creator website (although sadly that is and EXTREMELY dead site :( )

Nice work, Amar :) I also watched the Summer 2008 catalog again because I LOVE that music.

How did you think to start creating lashes? Yours are really lovely and unusual. You're a versatile lady :)

Thanks Czari :) The music and the work in the other two vids- which as you can see have much more flow and just look better! where done by Damien who is just awesome with the visuals :D (thank you again, my love).

The lashes came about because 3Ring Binder saw some somewhere and posted a pic in the Thread and i said "Oh I am so going to try that!" She said she was also working on some right then and was even kind enough to send me blanks- that really cut a huge step in the making of mine as getting the prim shape right is of course the very basic first step.

The great thing about them is that there is sooo much room for interpretation! If you search lashes on XStreet you will find so many variations- enough to suit anyone's taste- there are very 'normal' lashes like you would wear in RL, there are EXTREME lashes, there are in between lashes- and there are mine :). I try to make little artsy pieces in the textures- take a look at the Sunrise ones if you have a mind to - it's a little sun rising out behind the lashes with clouds and birds :D. Not for everyone but they do appeal to some folks and that's what is so awesome about SL- there's something for everyone!

Thanks Amar and Damien :)

I love the lashes you have with, I think, tiny dogs and or cats in them? I'll have to look at the Sunrise ones now too. :)

I have worn a pair of regular prim lashes most of my time in SL, but your's are definitely imaginative a GREAT with special occasions, gowns, parties...where just any ole lashes won't do.

Hey ama, great to hear the eyelashes are going so well...

Im curious to know what benefit the ads you did on SLU had? have you seen a marked increase of sales? or has the noticable affect been negligable?

I think the exposure is good- my sales have been going steadily up- whether that is due to the SLU adverts, to the DSN or to good search placings I am not really sure- but I keep punching at it and it seems to be working.

I was telling a friend earlier that I have gotten quite spoiled- I have gone from one or two sales a month to daily sales- no, we are not talking major bux here but it is sustainable and it makes me quite happy. I have said it before but it bears repeating- it just feels good people actually like my stuff enough to spend their money on it :)

No kidding! I suppose they must have seen a big drop-off in people buying the special listings, at the old fees.

I know that since I started on XStreet 3 weeks ago I haven't even considered paying for the special placements/bolding/outline etc.--it just seemed like too big a chunk of money going out each week or month. But now maybe I'll give them a second look.

It's only a temporary offer. I got this email on Thursday, subject: "Stand out from the crowd!" -

From: Xstreet
Looking for the best way to stand out from the crowd and grow your inworld business? Try advertising: shoppers are nine times more likely to purchase Xstreet SL items with listing enhancements and 2/3rds of shoppers browse on Xstreet SL before going inworld to complete their purchase.

For the next two weeks, we're offering 50% savings on all new banner ads and 25% savings on all new listing enhancements. There's never been a better time to try Xstreet SL advertising!

From what we discussed earlier here- i can't see their banner ads are worth the price. The views/hits seem a waste to me. I bought advert at SLU and I am quite pleased. I have seen my ad there several times.

While I cannot be positive that my sales have improved as a direct result of the advertising, I can be positive the exposure does not hurt.

And to Ponsoby - I wd definitely suggest you go with the Homepage feature at least for a week - no matter how great your product is, if no one sees it - it will not sell! So- toss out the chunk and hope for the best and don't forget your keywords. Note that they have revamped their requirements and allegedly will be cracking down on keyword spam - so make sure you choose words that are descriptive of your products. As we discussed in another thread- some dishonest folks are gaming the ratings there- but I still have a little line in my adverts asking folks that if they like m stuff please review and vote- some do - most don't - but it doesnt hurt to ask.

BTW - I try to review and rate items I buy too - so don't forget to do unto others!

Google Ad-Words is a free way to find some good words - just Google - ad words :)

I think you're right---I just need to decide which of my products would be the best choice!

And yes--I do rate everything I buy (maybe not right away in the case of the freebies as I don't always get them opened right away!) and am trying to write reviews (just getting started with that).

I have stopped doing any sort of listing enhancements for my items. I see 0 increase in sles on Xstreet using them and my sales re reasonably good on there anyway (5 or 6 sales a day).

I have been working on othr methods of advertising which seem to be working well

I did end up buying an Enhancement for the first time (the 7-day Homepage Featured).

This was about 22 hours ago; so far I'm not seeing much of a result. Only a couple of views and no sales (my item is somewhat pricey [though less than a thousand], and is a building, which makes it something other than an impulse buy). But perhaps it will pay off in the end.

Anxious to see how my item looked on the Homepage, I devoted three sessions of about 25 minutes each to clicking, clicking, clicking---I probably averaged one new page each 3 seconds, meaning I saw many hundreds of items. And you guessed it, it took all of those 75 minutes-times-20-pages-per-minute to finally have my castle show up!

Yes, I know, there are thousands of items with that enhancement (more since the special price went into effect, no doubt.)

Still, nothing ventured, nothing gained, I guess!

*snip*
I have been working on othr methods of advertising which seem to be working well

What other forms of advertising, E?

How about we do a little rehash of what we have going on for those coming late to the party :)

Here's what I do-

Create item; Adboard Item; Set in Store. Depending on where in the week this happens determines what group notices go out but as for groups i am with .. my own, Talon Faire with over 200 members- not tons but quite a few folks to holler out to. I try not to spam my group TOO much but it is usually one notice per day and i do seem to have group retention.

I also belong to Advertising Fashion, Sexy Shoppers, 100% Shoppers, Freestyle; Fashcon; CheapPeeps, Homestyle, and Freestyle Home (name might be worng on the last). Since I do home decor as well, I can do those two also. If I have specific releases for home and garden then i target those, but if not and it is time (once a week) that i can send to those groups too, then i focus on the decor items, but give a passing mention to other things.

From in-world I then concentrate on out here. Stuff goes to XStreet - then advert here with link to XStreet and pictures- god dont forget the pictures! Then SLU Shopper area then my blog. I have been putting a few things on Slapt also but have made nosales at all there.

I bought a banner ad in SLU I quite happy with but can't see the point to doing it for the XStreet site. I regularly have something featured on Homepage too but prefer the week to the month 'cause I can feature different items. Right now i am running the new clockwork eyes and the steampunk jewelry there.

So- what are YOU doing?
:D
