I have not tried out the voice and not sure if I will. But my main concern is what this means on my island. What are others doing? Pro's and con's of having voice turned on or off on your property.

No voice on Waikiti. I will never use it myself, and unless my residents come to me and start clamoring for it, I won't activate it.
Aside from the social aspects, the fact that they might start charging island owners a fee for having voice-enabled estates next year is a big enough reason IMHO to disable it. -Atashi _____________________

When FL Voice was new, I decided to not enable it with barely any thought about it. Only because of the apparent majority of those who say they don't like it or want it, I join the club, I install it, login and turn off voice on my parcels, log out and resume SL with non-Voice client.
But yesterday, I rethink about it, and ask, why stop those who want to use it? For some, there is a benefit, especially for other languages. You may not know, but with some languages, every character is appended with a space in chat! I think already there is a jira for that bug. Or, if somebody just wants to have a talk with somebody, why prevent their communication? It is almost like banning but not as bad! It is my land of course and I can do whatever I want, but I don't have bans and any visitors are welcome to do what they are allowed to do and I don't want to take away what they might enjoy. So, I turn it on but do not enable my viewer for voice. I turn down volume for voice all the way, so I don't have to hear it. I don't have headset, and my MAudio does not even have microphone connection, it is for music, not talking. If later it is a problem, I turn it off on the parcels, but for now, I give it a chance. _____________________

Still evaluating it. Right now we are leaning towards turning it off.
Edit: We have decided it will be off on our parcels. _____________________

If I was, say, exploring with a friend, and suddenly our voices got cut off, I'd be annoyed. I'd wonder why.

I'd personally turn it off, or its going to be murder in clubs.. Folks chatting voice ignoring the texters, texters unable to get others to answer... It just splits up group events...keep it all balanced, stay with text. |

Heck no. You all can take your devilry and go elsewhere, me and my estates will have no part in it.

Voice is banned in the sim I just moved to, and I couldn't be happier about that ban!
I am recommending to any clients that I have (for sim design work) that they deactivate Voice sim-wide, using theEstate controls, unless they have a clear and explicit reason for it in their sim. _____________________

have voice enabled on the island at request of the residents
but... new covenant section regarding voice, it gets alot closer to home compared to text, no warning on abuse but an instant lifetime ban no matter who it is _____________________

What sim is that Ceera? Unfortunately, from posts I read on SC, my sim admin appears ready to leave it on during the free period and, if its cheap enough, go pay on it in 08 (I may have misunderstood his post though). I really do not want to live in a voice sim, as much as I love Caledon, I am looking at alternatives...its bad enough to now be second-class in SL when I travel the grid, but at my home and shops too? ![]() |

Also, we voted (almost, but not quite) unanimously to keep Babbage no-voice. So pretty much every place I live is no-voice.

On.
1) Voice can be turned off in one's own edit preferences. 2) It can be turned off on my resident's parcels by their choice. There are enough layers between an individual and the overall settings of my estates to allow it to be turned on without concern. You don't want it, don't use it. If they add an extra charge in a year, then it will be up to my residents to decide if the addition to their tier is worth it. Probably a majority vote for on or off, which, of course, might leave some in a position of facing an increase they won't accept, but I can't please everyone all of the time, as the old saying goes. I got it on in both places (store & residential).
This way, if someone has a question, I can keep working. Will folks use it? Yes/No/Dont Care. Its there if needed. _____________________

On but monitoring, mainly to quiet constant requests for it. But if it lags the sim in ANY WAY or ever costs a single penny, or gets abudes by those that asked for it... OFF in a hearbeat

I keep it off personally unless I need it for business. I'd rather listen to music while building. Snobs will be snobs, Maklin, but intolerance, and that includes intolerance of those not using voice, is not permitted on my sims. I have too many friends who don't use voice for many reasons, to ever consider 'voice only' as a personal option, but I will never deny my residents the option for use in their homes and businesses. The way I see it, by refusing to live somewhere that has voice enabled, you are using a form of reverse discrimination and doing your end of widening the chasm that was inevitable by the introduction of voice. Know you're always welcome to visit or reside on SkyBeam Estates. I'm more than happy to chat with you via text chat, and I believe you'll find the same of most if not all of the folks here.
