From: Debbie Trilling It is true that the general tone has of the forums has changed in recent months, and with this, imo, has developed a sense of "cliqueiness" at certain times.
As an avid forum reader since I joined SL, and poster when I feel I might have something of value to add to the topic being discussed, it has reached a point where I now will normally only preuse the 'Technical', 'Building', 'Scripting' and 'Texturing' forums.
For some while it has seemed a shame that 'Resident Answers' appears to have been "taken over". Whats more, I have even taken to looking at the name of the OP and 'Last Post By' and, if that name is one of a certain group of people, not even bother opening the post at all ~ suspecting that their post be will off-topic, a one-line wisecrack or a cliquely personal message to friends.
I only happened to open this post itself because the tooltip over the post title in 'New Posts' hinted at a possibility of a sea-change.
It is also of some concern, that while writing this, I feel some anxiety that this will create some backlash, nasty wisecracks or other defensive action from some individuals of the the clique. Surely it isn't meant to be like this... Some of us just post a lot. Since I'm probably among the most guilty of "last post bys" around here - Id like to tell you I'm not trying to shut people out of the forums. Just conversing in the forums way thats all. I'm also a bit of a wallflower when it comes to this Forums Cartel group. I visit but I haven't really been involved. There really is not the clique people think there is. Anyway I think you should feel free to speak up. And thank you for this post.

Sometimes people don't see things that exist and sometimes the see things that don't exist. Trout's post above speaks volumes. I will end my discussion with that.

Sorry, just don't like the idea of a separate forum cartel forum. I think it would become inbred and narrow, and for everyone else in the SL forums, forgotten.
Here, we inject some knowledgeability, and a lot of basically good-natured banter that I think goes a long way toward making flamers obvious troublemakers by contrast and so helps maintain relative civility here.
In general we don't derail threads here until it is pretty clear the thread is played out, except for diehards stuck on their positions, and I think that performs a useful service too. If nothing else, a signal to Strife. ; )
I participate a little bit in the pie-and-panties fun, but mostly that is not what I am here for. So I think I would not be visiting a separate forum cartel forum.
Plus, as you might gather from the above, frankly, I think they need us here, to keep mulching out the trollers, flamers, weirdos and other weeds that would otherwise grow here.

Okay, so the proposal did not pass. Thanks for everyone's input. (insert jokey comment here).

I giggled out loud when I read this. I now have this terrible image in my mind of you pushing a lawnmower while whistling a sea shanty.... I have to say I agree that a separate forum would be counterproductive. I for the most part like reading the discussions and tangents that happen here. If people went elsewhere it would be a duller place.

Ok so I don't have to move again (slight sigh of relief I guess).
I don't care either way - this is the most enjoyable forum I've ever been involved with, whether I get answers to important questions or not. Good thing my bosses don't sit anywhere near me so they can't see me typing about sex, pies and panties all day.
Edited: And penguins. Least we not forget.

From: Desmond Shang Realise every time someone mentions hot buttered panties, they are putting that out in front of *everybody* - and if you were in a crowd of people without anonymity, would you do that? Something to think about.
ok, since I was the last known whereabouts of the hot buttered panties commentary, I'll say right here and now that I am fully aware of what I write and who might read it. I have clients who know I participate in SL and have enough information to know who I am here - one of them a conservative christian. And you know what? I don't care. I live my life by my terms and no one elses. I don't write anything in the anonymity of a forum that I wouldn't back up in RL. Someday I will have to publically own Isablan and everything she's ever written and I keep that in mind, but I also won't force myself to live a secret, hidden life because I'm not allowed to be who I am....

I spend several hours a day lurking on here. I read almost every post in RA and I feel like I know many of you forum regulars just from reading (and I've visited Liome, Caledon, Botanical Gardens and many of the other wonderful places you guys have). I laugh at a lot of the silly one liners and nonsense that is posted, but at the same time I don't post due to the fact that it is a tight group and you guys can, just a little, from my observations, make someone new feel a little uncomfortable.
I have learned so much from this forum. The regulars here, or Cartel as you might prefer it, for the most part are helpful and entertaining. What I don't like is when someone posts a question that is borderline trolling/maybe a real question....and the response they get is a bunch of PIE. Such is the case with a friend of mine who I recommended a few weeks ago post a question she had here. A real question. She got a legitimate answer from one and then 6 or 7 responses about Pie and a couple that were even mocking.
I certainly do not want to see you guys leave, you do answer majority of people's questions accurately and are very helpful. As I said before, you are entertaining and funny. You are not purposely rude to people, but instead what you might think is a funny response to a newbie's legitimate question is rude to the newb who doesn't know the back story or ongoing humor to pie or Brenda's panties. I don't think that humor needs to stop, its only a couple people who put it in uncomfortable spots.
I think I just rambled too long and never really got a point across. Oh well, PIE, right? Keep having fun.

Bang, if we offended your friend, I do apologize. Legit questions we do answer. Whiners and gripers do usually catch their fair share of mocking.
As for being a close group, yes we have developed friendships, but we always have room for more. Just jump in and start posting.

As for being a close group, yes we have developed friendships, but we always have room for more. Just jump in and start posting. Our world is huge & imperfect - but what keeps people coming back to SL despite all its flaws, are the social connections you make here, and in-world. Create an atmosphere that facilitates those social connections in a positive way, and now you've become an asset that Linden would be foolish to mess with. The previous incarnation of the forums was a liability. Considering I wasn't forcibly euthanized for what I wrote earlier, I think you all are going to be just fine

As it seems to be....my first post after 6 months of lurking is about not feeling comfortable jumping in, then a couple of you come along and make me feel comfortable. Thank you for that.
Oh, and to Ava...when I was talking about my friend who only got one real response to her question, that was you. You're always real helpful to people, as mostly everyone here is. You do stand out for it though. Good quality to have.

Welcome, Bang, and welcome to your friend-the-nontroller too. There will be no trouble adding new friends to this forum unless there get to be so many LL has to add another server for it, which I suspect they won't do.
But for everyone here, hell, the more the merrier. There's pie for all.

I've only been in-world for... 5 months I think. I started posting here a couple months ago. I'd say everyone's been rather welcoming. -and hey, any group that puts up with me can't be all bad.

Were you aware that Ava is actually the acronym for Always Very Assistanceful? It is. Appropriate, don't you think?

(To be honest, I occasionally contribute some snarkiness and silly antics here, but I try not to post when I'm in a really bad mood. Mean Ava is NOT what teh peeplz want to see!) To the people who are feeling a little scared to post: I was scared too. Even these days, months and over a thousand posts later, I feel a little like an outsider. Still, I really encourage you to join in. You can gain so much by participating, and the worst that can happen is that you'll be teased or criticized by people you don't know and can easily avoid. That's not much to risk when the reward might be some really good friends to share your SL experience with.
