A new home for the Forum Cartel?

Ok, it's becoming obvious from the multitude of general discussion threads being started here that we are pining for a general discussion forum. Disguising a general discussion topic with a question mark does not make it truly fit the guidelines here. Strife has been quite judicious with the padlock, but it's getting out of control, even for me, and I love to post threads and replies just to elicit LOLs.

Even if we aren't in danger of this forum being shut down by LL, should we organize ourselves and move our GD and humor-based threads elsewhere, as suggested by a wise avatar here yesterday? We can move to one of the many forums that opened in the wake of Second Citizen closing, like Zenciti or Second Survivor. Many of these small forums are barely getting any traffic and we could be a real boost to one of them. This would also act as insurance in case LL is considering shutting down the forums here, for whatever reason.

The biggest argument against this that I see would be that it would splinter where we are at any given moment. But really, we should only be here to ask and answer questions that are within the forum guidelines.

I believe that if we organize it correctly, like we did with the Forum Cartel Hangout project, we can pull this off quite easily. We can have our Resident Answers and eat pie too.

You read my mind Figgie. I have been looking at that very idea. We really should be good citizen's here and stop boring people with our nonsense. What I would ask is should it be our own forum, or invade another?

Awesme. I'll bet we could get one of the Res/mods at one of these forums to create a Forum Cartel thread just for us, so we can keep our witty banter on one sub forum like it is now.

Other benefits to moving: Very liberal res/mods, bbcoding that works, and a plethora of smilies.

Ok , but know going in, it's a major pain and a huge time drain. Why not just move to an existing one and you wouldn't have to be the good or bad cop anywhere. It's a tough job and these forums are already in place... We can find one that works for Lexxi.

Well I had been toying with the idea anyway, as a way to keep my interest in SL up. Since I'm not into building or scripting or such and i have a good amount of bullshit available I figured it might be fun. but if you guys want to move to an existing place that's fine.

Kind of sad that a forum cartel cant even have discussions in the forums that its the cartel of.

/me is _very_ protective of her RL info and tends to not visit non-LL sites. Not that I think anybody would do anything deliberate but mistakes do happen.

I don't contribute much to these forum cartel threads so it wouldn't be a big loss to have me not go to the new one. Just offering one other perspective.

I agree that moving would be a good idea. I've really felt like I need to hold back here. I also want to tickle Ray's hamster avatar.

I'd be ok with moving. I contribute to the chaos way more than I actually help anyone, although I try to help where I can. This is actually the only forum I've ever belonged to where there was no specific off-topic area. It makes no sense.

The only thing I'd really want is the PM function, little moderation - just enough to keep the flames down, and that everyone, especially Lexxi, would be welcome and able to log on.

I've been a moderator/administrator at a car site I used to belong to, and it is more work than you might think. A lot of sites get hit with daily spam - Viagra ads, see Britany Spears naked, buy pharmaceuticals online, lose weight with miracle tea...everything. If you don't constantly clean them up, you have trouble. This one doesn't have that issue because of the limitations on who can post. At any rate, if there is a way to avoid that without limiting access for legitimate posters, that would be great.

I don't mind going elsewhere to yak it up, we sure do have a lot to say about nothing. Perhaps Larry David or Jerry Seinfeld would care to join us? One could only imagine the hijinx which would insue...

I just hope it loads ok too. Yesterday I logged on to Furnation for the first time while at work, and that was a freaking disaster.

I don't like the idea. I've shared before that I can't figure out how so many of you are able to so easily toggle back and forth between forums. I have a hard enough time keeping up with this one.

In addition, I think that it would eventually mean that few are posting here. I think it would happen sooner than you'd think. Maybe that wouldn't be a bad thing. Just change, I guess and I'm comfortable here.

If there are volunteers for modding, I'll set one up. But I can't mod it by myself. There'd be too much work involved for one person.

Well, the other option is we keep things as they are and just scramble should the day come that this forum gets closed. I hope we would get some notice to organize something should that occur.

It is but the current setup of this forum prevents that, and we really shouldn't be jumping on the mattresses here as much as we do. I would rather stay here, too as access is controlled and a lot of people participate in our shenanigans in an unofficial manner.

There would still be The Forum Cartel group to keep everyone together until a new home was found, so it's not like everyone would lose touch instantaneously.

How about asking LL to add a "General Discussions" forum to the resident conversations area?

If we are going to move, I would prefer it to be to our own boards. It wouldn't be right to expose this bunch of merry miscreants to an unsuspecting forum.

That's going to be dead on arrival. LL specifically does NOT want a general discussion forum because it is a pain to moderate it.

like i`ve said several times, got an complete webhosting package doing basicly nothing with an crapload of unused traffic for an dedicated FC forum and was said it was taken care off
