There's an inworld land business advert on the message of the day, did I miss the blog post where this advertising stream was announced?

I was just thinking that myself, when I logged in. Is this going to be the start of places in Showcase being able to advertise on message of the day?

And how much would it cost to get that advertiser to redirect to Qie's Dildo of Death website?

I don't think it's such a good idea for LL to endorse private businesses by featuring them as the message of the day. It's confusing to newer or uninformed residents who think that everything on the MOTD screen is an official SL thing. I bet the featured business's competitors will be up in arms over this.
If this is a new trend, I would really expect an official announcement. _____________________

Wow this really sucks but at the same time I'm not really surprised. I wonder when it will become even more pervasive such as a premium no ads vs basic with ads. I'm curious to know how much that message of the day cost.
*sorry i hijacked your thread btw ... referred it back to here. _____________________

Wow bummer for the smaller Estates and Sim owners trying to survive in this economy. Me included. I don't want to hear the excuses this time, I don't want to hear the marketing spin on how this is a good thing; it's not. Why Adam? Ya'll need to be seriously asking why that particular Avatar. Seriously, get real.

from this link: http://secondlifegrid.net/spt/resources/publicity
How do I advertise in Second Life? At this time, Linden Lab does not have any advertising or cooperative marketing programs. The advertising opportunity in Second Life is to create a compelling experience or event that attracts people to Second Life and attracts residents to your brand or product. Some residents have set up advertising servers in Second Life, and you can work directly with them. You may find them listed in SLClassifieds, OnRez or SLExchange. The other question I kinda found funny in the link's FAQ was this: My location is empty. What can I do to attract traffic? _____________________

Its something they are trialling, Estates have to be 250 full regions or larger to qualify.
No blog posts, no announcements, they just did it. At least thats what I was told from someone who filed a support ticket about it. It's just wrong, wrong, WRONG. _____________________

I asked the same question on the adult changes blog
https://blogs.secondlife.com/message/4882#4882 Re: Adult Content Changes Discussion MOTD is an advert for Azure island sims LL response was " What you are seeing is the first stages of a new program we are rolling out as a test. We're piloting programs for our top landowners, beginning with estates greater than 250 full-prim regions. Should this test be successful, we will be extending the pilot to the next tier of landowners this Summer. Look forward to more details coming in July!" WHY HAS THIS BEEN PUT THERE WHEN THE UPCOMING ADULT CHANGES SURELY MERIT BETTER EXPOSURE THAN AN ADVERT FOR A PRIVATE SIM OWNER. Please put the MOTD to reflect the upcoming changes in multi languages so your customers are aware of it and not cater to private large sim owners. Even if it is a test it is badly timed when there are more important things to inform the customer base of IMHO Whats up LL are you keeping the bigger land owners happy while riding rough shod over the rest of us?? _____________________

How long before you'll be able to buy MOTD ads via auction in XSL?

From Linden Lab's point of view, owners of 250+ region estates are paying a million real dollars a year or more (250 x $295/mo x 12 mo = $885,000 a year).
So OF COURSE they will do what they can for those people. That's where LL makes most of its income, land tier. Everything else, premium memberships, upload fees, classifieds, are much less than land. |
