Why do people use the word "spam" for everything they don't like?

So I should call you Spam Deakins?

Someday Bri, I too will have the time to stalk people's plurks, blog posts, forum posts so I can keep a log of stuff to use later. And seriously? Chunk? Honey, I've seen your RL Pic. Glass house much? (btw, is the strung out look still in? Really?) And then maybe someday I'll get an african american husband and then e-date a girl that says most black people are criminals.

Aww poor Chunk has to go all real life emo.

My RL pic is in my profile and changes bi weekly. Any one can look at it and decide for themselves if i look "strung out", but nice try DancIn, I'd love to see your Herman Munster pic any day - 6'5", 300lbs, and you brag about it right?

You do not seem to have much ammo except to pull out crap Joshua Nightshade has said. Is his hand up your butt making you talk because we can find the exact same things said by him, about me, on SLU.

Yet another example and reason why a person cannot 'talk and share' on SLU - because trailer park, meth smoking, beer drinking, Texan red necks come and post about it using the info like it is a weapon.

Go finishing plurking about how you quit SLU because of Joshua Nightshade (whose act you seem to follow when it comes to insults).

So funny... You act like a total heinus anus on SLU, fast to insult and put people down and then when you get a hatchet job from SLU's favored son, you go off and cry plurky lurky style about it and declare you are never going back - but yet, there you are, back there...

Lonely much?

Hey, why don't you go back to building your overpriced year 2003 looking crap that you place on XtreetSL to rip off resident newbies. https://www.xstreetsl.com/modules.php?name=Marketplace&MerchantID=93853

HOT STUFF DEWD!!!! KEEP UP THE AWESOME BUILD SKILLZ JUNIOR!

But don't run away and never fun comeback! I like playing with the big kids!!

Doesn’t linden labs need a legal disclaimer that this is an advertisement?
It appears to be public endorsement of the estate not an advert which may cause them to become legally responsible in ways they wouldn’t want.

They either need to say "advertisement" or say they are not responsible for transactions between end users and this estate.

but that is also how it works with real estate companies, city and county commissions, zoning boards, etc. happens every day. So if people want second life to be more like RL then this is how it works, big business gets preferential treatment, big spenders get it also.

it's nothing bad, it's just how capitalism works

No, that is the way government works. Without the government control, there are no palms to grease.

Yea, you are an awesome red neck though who is really a Southern Gentleman.

I would not expect you to take RL information someone post on a forum and use it as a weapon. :)

Also, big guys are hot - fat guys are not. I dated a guy that was 5'11" and he had a napoleon complex o.O but he was a pro-football player... I prefer my men be no less than 6'2".

we both know the only reason certain people come here is to say certain things hey. and we know why they do it.
dont allow them to pull us off topic.

You never worked in a large organization? The quartermaster rule applies everywhere. It all comes down to one hand washing the other once you're dealing with enough people that everyone isn't a personal friend of everyone else.

That doesn't make it *right*, just *inevitable*.

I expect to see Dreamland and Fantasyland on the next "ads." If I see them... then the explanation given for LL's "test" or "trial run" will hold a bit of legitimacy. I've purchased from both.....and always received excellent service.....and have no problem with LL promoting them to newbies.....if, in fact, that was part of the reasoning behind it.

If I don't see them pop up shortly.....well, there you go.

Karma has a way of creeping in. Considering the stir it created....not exactly the kind of publicity you would want for your business. Even breaks the rule "any publicity is good publicity." There are far more people royally PO'd about it.....then those who are showing up in the forums.

Might lead a few newbies their way....but look at the impact it had on those who are hip to the system and most likely purchase the bulk of the land.

well i dont think newbs need that kind of help in the motd. as it is there are a handful of people that ALWAYS get mentioned when estates are asked about. they dont need to drive that much further to put them beyond competition.
i think the motd should be for important announcements. NOT the filler ll have been posting lately. even a year ago a motd change caught my attention, today i am starting to ignore them. im so jaded i honestly suspect adsense ads to start appearing.

Yes, but I can choose to work there or not. No choice in bribing the government goons or not.

I've been saying for years that my money is on the inevitable appearance of advertising in viewers of free accounts. Premium accounts will be ad free. You find this business model all over the intertubes.

Not saying that newbies need that kind of direction....and can think of other ways to guide them....just saying that was part of the explanation/reasoning given by LL.....so prove it.

Also not saying that I approve. If you're going to announce that you are "testing"....only way to learn from a "test"....is to do it across the board. One example is not a "test."

Shame LL could not use their MOTD for important policy changes like Adult Content Verification and Traffic bans with a clickable link to foreign translated versions. Yes, i know they recently had a MOTD regarding Adult verification......how many months after it was first announced? 3 mths ? 4 mths?

Instead they chose to announce these very very major Policy changes via Blogs and a few RF threads.....what % of the population did it reach?

I love the SL platform....but the company that runs it are full of dumb'sses!!

Jira to allow residents to ignore ads - VWR-14039
06-15-2009 07:41
"Create subscription channels for MOTD so residents can avoid ads and still get service announcements"

https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-14039

I am not in total disagreement with LL, perhaps seeing ads might be nice for newbies. But a huge portion of established residents use SL for escape, and REALLY don't want to see them. Perhaps this way of handling it will allow LL to still sell the ads on the basis that all newer residents, and most unsophisticated residents, will still see them.

If anyone wants simple instructions on how to vote in Jira, post here and I'll drop them in.

well, if i joined icq last year, then started talking like i had any knowledge of icq in the 90's... well
thats what age has to do with this. at least two 2003ers are talking implying something nefarious due to events that transpired before any of us were on the grid. another 2 2003ers arent debating them on the issue either. in this thread more than any the rez date speaks volumes regarding an informed opinion.

I agree. They can't be bothered to use the MOTD for really important stuff, but can use it for advertising. I have no issue with who is being advertised, I really don't care, but if they want to sell adspace on the log in screen, that's fine. But it should be apart from the MOTD.
