To some. I personally dislike pretty much everything about them. :)

The main thing I dislike about them is that you can't buy them singly; I'd buy one. I don't need six or eight nearly the same.

I own Nevermore, Charmed, Vogue and several others but I have to say at the moment that I think that the Nomine Eros line has the very best definition of any I've found; not to mention the tones are modable too. Now if I can just convince her to expand the makeup line!!

Picked up my first non-Sin Skins skin that wasn't a freebie and I've received several comments about it. "The Good Life".

Oh, and I picked up a "Body Politik" skin for the male alt. Not sure if people like it or not, seems to work for me. Darker than I was trying for, but close enough. I posted a picture of the male alt in that "now and then" thread. I do not have an accessible picture of "The Good Life" skin, though.

I haven't attempted doing anything with one of these. What are they and what are they supposed to do?

I ended up buy RaC skins. But there are so many different ones around it's difficult to chose, it's even worse shopping in SL than in RL!

A face light is basically an invisible attachtment that lights your face. It's meant to take away ugly shadows and such from the face. A friend of mine who does some modelling work uses them all the time. There are people selling them, and admittedly some of those are pretty nice and very adjustable, but they are also very easy to make as long as you figure out how to keep the lighting down below floodlight :D

Thanks Sally :). I tend to shy away from things until I know what they are and how they work. I'll have a fiddle!

PS: Excuse a silly question, but where do you attach them to?

No such thing as a silly question :)
Usually attach to nose or mouth. If you want to make your own, make sure it's big before you attach it, otherwise you might be lighting your face from the inside of your head ;)

Cheers Sally :). I haven't started making things yet, not really had the time to invest so far, plus still guddling around finding my way.

I use the chin...my prim lashes attach to my nose and I frequently wear a lip ring. :)

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

I still haven't figured out where to attach what to where, guess it's trial and error. Never thought of attaching prim lashes to my nose, ta! I guess I need to experiment a bit more.

You may have to adjust the height a little, depending on where you decide to attach it. My lashes default to the nose, though. :)

Has anyone mentioned Natural Skin? They're the only ones I could find (and I must have gone through dozens of demos) that look good on my shape. Such a personal thing though. Skins that look superb on others look horrible on me.

Of yes Face Lights. What a great invention! Saves insisting that everone around you force sunset. :-) I agree though, some of them I've seen have enough power to light up a whole sim. A nice subtle glow's enough to get rid of those awful mid-day shadows.

lol the trick is to use one thats tiny... and only shines light around your head/body... not the maximum radius of 20m =P Unless thats what you're going for.. I use the mega-lights (As I call them anyway) when I'm going to take a picture of an avatar for a sign or something

I like the male skin you have for your alt. I'll check Body Politik. I'm not sure I'm shopping for a new skin, because I'm so used to the one I have, but there are much nicer ones out there. It's just I've been in it so long that I identify with it.

Sid thanks you, and notes that Body Politik is expensive.

Eyes: Anyone go out of their way for eyes? I just spent a small wad of lindens on eyes. I rather like the Body Politik eyes.

I'm actually using freebie eyes, and love them.. not totally realistic, but they have the exact look I wanted for mine, and I just happened to find them (White eye, red and black iris, white pupil)

I do have a few freebie eyes that look really good though... surprises me at how nice they are. Varying colors and styles too...

I do like the lovecraftian av's eyes though.. pure white ^^

The only skin I've spent *serious* coin on is the HD2 at Crying Rose Studio Designs. That's after looking at more demos that I care to count.

You are definitely slutty in the best possible definitions of the word. Dirty, hot, and a little scary, but in a good way. I'd like do awful things to you, but I'm pretty sure you'd snap me in two like a twig and leave me cross-eyed, dizzy and confused. I'm giving you a 9.8, tied for the top rating ever given. Almost off-the charts slutty. Shame on you and congratulations. -- Trout

I love Love's red skin. I have a similar one, but it doesn't have the . . um . . lower private bites.

I'm a vendor of male, female and kids body shapes, so i have bought a bucket load of skins and hairstyles over a period of time.......as well as loads of demos.

my personal favourites are

Female
-Celestial Studios :Vogue. IMO the best faces and facial make-up out there at the moment
-CyroGen- beautiful facial make-ups, however need more detail on their bodies.
-Naughty Designs range- good all round reliable skin for faces & bodies. ....might have become too common now.

Male
-Naughty Designs : Dante & Gabriel : still one of the top male skins
-FNKY : nearly as good as ND,.... could say pretty similar in some instances e.g Antonio

Kids
- Yummy skins by Robin Sojourner

Its all pretty subjective though, ......really depends on what look you want to achieve.
Other quality skins i have found are RAC , Body Politik, Nominee & Minnu.

Yes, thanks. I now have a small flashlight angled up into my face that shines a light on it. I am talking about in real life.
