I think Jig's gallery is pretty much open to anyone who wants to visit; I'm sure she'd happily provide you with an LM. It's well worth seeing.

I think I've figured out at least a couple of the things I like about Jig's photos (of which these are all samples). For one thing, she's not afraid to take just head shots. It's funny how few "portraits" of avatars we see (excepting forum avatars and similar): it's as though we don't feel that our avis' faces will hold up to the scrutiny of this kind of focus. In fact, it's surprising how "expressive" our faces can seem.

The other thing about these pics relates to the way that Jig has decentred the focal point of the composition, which adds interest and a sense of space.

Jig's following some simple and long-known rules of composition, which is why her pictures look so good! Here in a nutshell are some of the things to keep in mind, both when shooting and cropping:

1. Get close to your subject! A picture of a tiny Aunt Minnie standing next to the Eiffel Tower is a picture of the Eiffel Tower, not of Aunt Minnie. Head and shoulders shots are nearly de rigeur for portraits. Untold millions of casual snapshots fail because they try to get a full-body shot.

2. The Rule of Thirds. Mentally draw a tic-tac-toe board on your image, dividing it into thirds horizontally and vertically. Put the focal point of your composition not at the center, but at the intersection of two of the dividing lines. For faces, the focal point is generally one of the subject's eyes.

3. Don't cut at the joints. When you frame your subject, don't have the edge of the image coincide with body joints...knees, or waist. Cut at mid-thigh, or mid-chest.

4. Use lighting and depth of field (blurring the background) to add emphasis to your subject.

/me jumps in the thread and chucks snowballs at everyone

It's been snowing here for almost 24 hours with no signs of stopping. Pretty heavy too!
We're very close to being snowed in. Looks very pretty though

I went out last night and pulled an all-nighter. We came outside at about 7am to find the snow ankle deep, and we had no coats lol. Still stopped to take a couple of pics of the park though.

I'm loving it! except when I have to go walk on the slippery snow in town...thats not so nice.

Hope everyone is ok.

Pretty good. Right one is mostly back to normal. Still got a few months before the deep swelling is gone from the left one. But the bone is mostly healed.
