I still can't get that little hat to look right with resizing.

I like this . . . but I confess my eye keeps sort of stumbling over the shiny nipples. :p

i have watched Christmas Vacation 3 times this season already. i can't help but laugh out loud, every time, when Clark Griswald is in the lingerie department conversing with the hot chick.

[Clark is looking at lingerie, as a voluptuous saleswoman approaches]
Mary: Can I help you with anything?

Clark: Oh, I was just smelling - smiling. I was just blouse - browsing.

Mary: For your wife? For your girlfriend?

Clark: Uh... huh? What happened? I, uh, heh heh. Well, I guess it just wouldn't... Oh hee hee, it wouldn't be the Christmas shopping season if the stores were any less hooter than they - HOTTER than they are. Whew. It is warm in here, isn't it?

Mary: You have your coat on.

Clark: Yes, oh do I? How'd that happen?

Mary: Because it's cold out?

Clark: Yes, Yes, it is a bit nipply out. I mean 'nippy out.' What am I saying, nipple? Ah, there is a nip in the air, though.

Clark: 'Tis the season to be merry.

Mary: That's my name.

Clark: No shit.

Twenty years ago today, a gunman walked into École Polytechnique, an engineering school attached to Concordia University in Montreal, and began systematically killing women. Armed with an automatic rifle, and a hunting knife, he entered the first classroom he found, ordered the men to leave at gunpoint, and methodically shot each of the 9 women who were left, announcing that "You're women, you're going to be engineers. You're all a bunch of feminists. I hate feminists."

By the time his rampage was done, and the gunman dead at his own hands, 14 women were dead, and another 10 women and 4 men wounded.

The effect that this event had on Canada was traumatic: this day is officially observed here as a "National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women." One more concrete result was the passing of much more stringent gun control laws; another was the creation of the White Ribbon Campaign, for men opposed to violence against women.

The impact upon me of this event was, to put it mildly, profound. I can still remember the utter horror of watching the story unfolded on the news. I can still remember, vividly, a controversial photo that was printed of one of the victims in her chair, her head back . . . looking almost as though she had fallen asleep. I think it is not to much to say that this was a pivotal event in my "coming of age."

To commemorate this event, and remember the 14 young women who died, I am going to be holding a brief memorial in a small garden I have built for this purpose, today at 11am SLT. Anyone who is interested is welcome to attend; contact me, and I'll send an LM. This evening, I will be attending a vigil in RL.

Here is the centrepiece of the memorial garden.

Sorry. I hope this wasn't too much of a downer . . .

No, it looks like a beautiful memorial. Even if it is a downer, so be it. It's real.

I just glanced at this post (never posting here in just ignore unless I am confused) but I remember it but I was little - but I think the worry for me is that there has to be a specific "group" of men opposed to violence against women. That is, that specific men have to declare their oppostition to violence and control.

Not much has changed since you were a young woman in real Scylla and were coming of age. Male attitudes have not really improved. They just pay lip service now (if that). Maybe women are learning to be less docile but we've got miles to go yet and that's a dismal thought.

I'll never forget Dec 6th 1989. It will forever be seared in my memory for the lives lost of 14 talented young women that were so tragically murdered that day 20 years ago. It was a senseless act of violence that was specifically directed at women - one of whom was my friend's older sister.

More peeks, cuz it's pretty much what I spent my weekend doing. :D

First, some scale for you. That's me, way down there on the floor:

A neat cutaway:

And the whole thing so far:

I think I'm sort of unconsciously/consciously still building because I know the textures will be very time consuming, so I keep putting that work off.

OK Geeks....I was doing a little preliminary computer shopping on TigerDirect. I plan on replaceing my aging Dell after the New Year. I saw several machines that I liked in my budget, but all seem to have integrated graphics. This one has a stand alone video card. Opinions?
