Well, at some point, for no reason I could see, the dog began to growl and bark at Six. I'm sure she didn't do anything. Six is somewhat fearful, so she tried to run away, which provoked the dog to bark even more. When I stood up and spoke calmly, the dog sat and stopped barking, but as soon as I'd stop being assertive, she'd start barking again at me... Six would get fearful, the barking would escalate, I'd be assertive, the dog would quiet down, etc. The cycle wouldn't stop, and Six was getting freaked, so we left.

I couldn't get Six to stay calm once the dog barked, and I couldn't figure out what this usually non-barking dog was on about.

Does anyone have a clue?

I'm no expert really, but did she try to hug the dog? Sometimes kids put their arms around a dog to hug them, but in doggy body language this means "I dominate you." It can get an otherwise gentle dog upset and hurt their feelings. Best not to hug a strange dog, although all kids want to.

Some of the things that people buy for the sake of "convenience" really cracks me up. I guess growing up in a household where money did not grow on trees and where both Mom & Dad worked, yet we almost always sat down as a family for a home cooked meal from scratch that either Mom or Dad cooked, taught me some useful life lessons.
Definitely. You can buy Jello pre-made... because it's soooo hard to mix the powder with hot water... and Mac'n'cheese is now pre-made, also difficult to mix with boiling water... :confused:

Oh what's matzo brie? I've never really used matzo much, do you crumble it up and use it like bread crumbs or panko and coat a chunk of brie and bake it until it is gooey goodness?


Matzo Brie is crushed up pieces of matzo (like 2 boards per person), which you then dampen with some warm water. Drain the water out and then mix up an egg or two (or 3 depending on how many pieces of matzo you are using - you don't want this too eggy - blech) and pour over the damp matzo. Chop up an onion, and throw that in, with some salt and pepper too.

Then, heat up some oil or butter, depends on what part of Europe you are from (yep, weird, but ok, my people would use the oil). Then, either throw the whole thing into one big pile into the skillet and flatten out like a giant pancake (will be oh, about 1/2 inch thick or so "depending";) OR scramble up the pieces like making, ummm, a scrambled egg :p Again, depends on how your peeps made it. Mine, made it like a giant pancake, in which case, flip when browned (you'll have to take a look after a few minutes) and cook until brown on the other side.

Mind you this isn't haute cuisine. Just peasant food. I eat it with a ton of sea salt on top - some people like it with apple sauce or jam. Once again, this is a regional thing for Jewish cooking. Seems to be a split between sweet and savory cooking.

BTW, an old friend of mine - not Jewish, used to make his with chopped up various veggies like mushrooms and green peppers - rather good too but definately not traditional :D

Oh and it is pronounced "BRI" not "BREE" lol. No cheeses involved :p

The skin is from Zullay Thor, who doesn't make anything any more. I've written to her to ask, but she hasn't replied. I was SUPER lucky, got a set of skins in various shades at a Fashion Week, I think. It's her Gen 2 Glamour Skin KISSABLE (her caps, not mine).

In my note I offered to buy all the skins she ever made.

Oh I was totally off the mark thinking it involved cheese lol. It does sound good though and I'm often a fan of peasant cooking ... tasty and unpretentious.

@ Malia: pre-made Jello! Sheesh I must walk down the wrong aisles at the grocery store because I never knew that existed either.

It was a good read, and I'm sure it will go unseen by anyone at LL with any influence. The new people who inhabit that boardroom are just like television and mvie executives, or record company execs who Frank Zapp said should be selling shoes, not records. They know nothing about their product, their market, or their real customers. I'm sorry to say if SL failed totally on their watch, a part of me would gloat over it.
I'm old enough to remember a time when some manufacturers seemed to take pride in the merchandise they produced. Back in the eighties they stopped even pretending that was the case and now the only only goal seems to be maximizing short term profits.

This one's going to my hard drive. Reminds me a little of the story of a European who opined that Americans sometimes buy a big yacht and work all the time to pay for it, never enjoying it, while Europeans may buy a row boat and take 6 months off on holiday to enjoy it. (Not entirely always true, but food for thought.)
