I am the killer in the night, come to slay your swarms of wasps and hornets. With Black Flag spray. Downwind. Followed by a shower. :/

/me goes to find her stash of yellow jacket traps
ugh - I emptied them at the end of the summer but did not clean them. Debating if it is easier to clean them or buy new ones. Oh well - put them to soak and will see.

Hi everyone.

Re: Taxes.

Re: DST. Would you people quit messing with your clocks all the time. I plays hell with us in Arizona and Hawaii. The whole idea of saving electricity by not using a couple of lightbulbs for an hour is silly when compared to running an AC for an extra hour.

And here I thought I don't sleep enough now! Hello my love- me waves :)

This is a yellow jacket:

horrid horrid things

and this is the kind of traps we use here:

If you get them out early enough, you can trap the queens and therefore end up with fewer of the nasty things around your house thruout the summer.

By end of a bad summer, I can sometimes fill 3-4 of those traps a couple of times each. Since we were not real cold this year, it will probably be a bad summer.

I've never seen a yellow jacket trap before, that's a heck of an idea, though. I get a few nests of yellow jackets around the place every year, mean suckers for sure. Gotta be careful trying to destroy their nests, they always seem to have at least one or two others on lookout, and no matter how fast I run, one of them will have a 'bead' on me and will almost always get me. Swells up nice for about an hour or so. Usually have plenty of your normal wasps around here, they don't bother me, so i don't bother them, but them yellow jackets are just nasty no matter what.

Go after yellow jacket nests in the evening hours, just before dusk - they start settling down that time of day.

Around here, we can buy those traps at any hardware or misc store -- Home Depot, Target, Walmart, etc..

/me waves to Amara :)

Amara, you may not have them near your house, but the little buggers are found in Florida...so be careful!

I've tried that trick on what we call 'boxelder bugs'...I was assured that it was supposed to work as it basically smothers the bug and they can't breath, I guess. I don't know what I've done wrong, but it never seems to work for me. So just a warning....just in case you have the same luck I have, be prepared to RUN!
If gas didn't stink and wasn't so flammable, and didn't cost so dang much, it's never failed me yet.

From someone who has faced the loss of their home to fire, I suggest you stop that. *koff*

Oh I never do it around the house, that'd be nuts!
Most of the time I just leave them alone, but if they decide to build a nest where I need to be, I gotta do something....I will admit that using gas would be my last resort normally.

Probably a good idea considering the way in which newcomers are being dragged into the boudoirs of the Ladies of The Thread!
